In multi-target tracking (MTT), the imprecise model for sensor characteristics might result in poor performance. The Variational Bayesian labeled multi-Bernoulli (VB-LMB) filter based on Gamma distribution can handle this problem. However, the predictive likelihood of the existing VB-LMB filter is simply treated as a Gaussian, which is inaccurate. In this paper, a VB-LMB filter with inverse Wishart distribution is presented to perform MTT under the unknown sensor characteristics. The measurement noise covariance is modeled as an inverse Wishart (IW) distribution. This distribution has potential to deal with the full noise covariance matrix compared with the Gamma distribution. Since the state and the measurement noise covariance are coupled, the updated equation can be solved by variational Bayesian (VB) method. The predictive likelihood is calculated via minimizing the Kullback-Leibler divergence by the VB lower bound. A MTT scenario is used to evaluate the proposed method. Simulation results show that our approach has better performance than the existing VB-LMB filter with the Gamma distribution.

The Medium Energy X-ray telescope (ME) is one of the three main telescopes on board the Insight Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) astronomy satellite. ME contains 1728 pixels of Si-PIN detectors sensitive in 5-30 keV with a total geometrical area of 952 cm2. Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chips, VA32TA6, is used to achieve low power consumption and low readout noise. The collimators define three kinds of field of views (FOVs) for the telescope, 1°×4°, 4°×4°, and blocked ones. Combination of such FOVs can be used to estimate the in-orbit X-ray and particle background components. The energy resolution of ME is ~3 keV at 17.8 keV (FWHM) and the time resolution is 255 μs. This paper presents a novel method for pair-wise range image registration, a backbone task in world modeling, parts inspection and manufacture, object recognition, pose estimation, robotic navigation, and reverse engineering. The method finds the most suitable homogeneous transformation matrix between two constructed range images to create a more complete 3D view of a scene. The proposed solution integrates a ray casting-based fitness estimation with a global optimization method called improved self-adaptive differential evolution. This method eliminates the fine registration steps of the well-known iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm used in previously proposed methods, and thus, is the first direct global registration algorithm. With its parallel implementation potential, the ray casting-based algorithm speeds up the fitness calculation for the global optimization method, which effectively exploits the search space to find the best transformation solution. The integration was successfully implemented in a parallel paradigm on a multi-core computer processor to solve a simultaneous 3D localization problem. The fast, accurate, and robust results show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves on the registration problem over state-of-the-art algorithms. © The Author(s).

Lithium-ion batteries for automotive use require not only downsizing but also compatibility between energy density and power density. To satisfy these requirements, a phenomenological understanding of the conditions occurring in a battery during operation is essential. Understanding the behavior of ion transport during charging and discharging is an especially key factor for optimal battery design. This paper presents the results of X-ray in-situ visualization and in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). X-ray analysis showed the ion concentration change at the electrodes and EIS revealed the resistance change. The results agreed well quantitatively and were validated by a numerical method. Background Acute lower respiratory infections (ALRIs) caused by respiratory viruses are common and persistent infectious diseases worldwide and in China, which have pronounced seasonal patterns. Meteorological factors have important roles in the seasonality of some major viruses, especially respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza virus. Our aim was to identify the dominant meteorological factors and to model their effects on common respiratory viruses in different regions of China. Methods We analysed monthly virus data on patients hospitalised with ALRI from 81 sentinel hospitals in 22 provinces in mainland China from Jan 1, 2009, to Sept 30, 2013. We considered seven common respiratory viruses: RSV, influenza virus, human parainfluenza virus, adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, human bocavirus, and human coronavirus. Meteorological data of the same period were used to analyse relationships between virus seasonality and seven meteorological factors according to region (southern vs northern China). The geographical detector method was used to quantify the explanatory power of each meteorological factor, individually and interacting in pairs, on the respiratory viruses. Findings 28 369 hospitalised patients with ALRI were tested, 10 387 (36·6%) of whom were positive for at least one virus, including RSV (4091 [32·0%] patients), influenza virus (2665 [20·8%]), human parainfluenza virus (2185 [17·1%]), adenovirus (1478 [11·6%]), human bocavirus (1120 [8·8%]), human coronavirus (637 [5·0%]), and human metapneumovirus (615 [4·8%]). RSV and influenza virus had annual peaks in the north and biannual peaks in the south. Human parainfluenza virus and human bocavirus had higher positive rates in the spring–summer months. Human metapneumovirus had an annual peak in winter–spring, especially in the north. Adenovirus and human coronavirus exhibited no clear annual seasonality. This paper proposes the problem of how to maximize the defensive effect by setting up defensive facilities given the path planning method of the enemy's UAV, and made validations and analysis on the commonly used RRT path planning algorithm. From the simulation experiments, some factors that affect the results of the path planning are summarized. We measure the defensive effect by defining the metric E, and discuss the factors that may affect the metric. Finally, by summarizing the impacts of the distribution of defensive facilities on the path planning results under the RRT algorithm, two kinds of trapping schemes for RRT algorithms are proposed, and the experiments also show the effectiveness of these schemes.

Prognostics of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells Using A Model-based Method

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are becoming one of the most popular future power technologies with the advantages including low operating temperature, high power conversion efficiency, and zero pollution. However, there are still many shortcomings restricting the large scale commercialization of PEMFCs, such as the short lifetime and high cost. Accurate prognostics of PEMFCs are very significant for its life and cost management. This paper presents an efficient semi-empirical model-based prognostics method estimating the health state and the remaining useful life of PEMFCs based on the adaptive unscented Kalman filter (AUKF) algorithm. AUKF algorithm can automatically adjust the system process covariance and observation covariance according to the estimation residuals, and it also solves the initial parameters setting problem of conventional UKF algorithm. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed model-based prognostics method using the AUKF algorithm has better prognostics performance than using the UKF algorithm. © 2017

This paper deals with modeling and control for the humidification process in the cathode of the PEM fuel cell system at high current demand. An improved control oriented model of the humidification process is developed in this paper. We add a pressure factor into the equation of mass transfer to improve the accuracy of the model in the domain of our study. Under an exhaust gas recirculated structure, we combine the model of air supply system with the humidification process model. The effectiveness of this model is validated by simulation results. Based on the model, we analyze the control objectives and divide them into a fast one and a slow one. Finally, a feedforward controller is designed to regulate the humidification process based on the analysis of the control objectives. Simulation results show that while satisfying the current demand, the strategy can improve the performance of the humidifier dramatically without affecting the regulation of the oxygen excess ratio. © 2017
