African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and severe hemorrhagic disease caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV). The continuous spread of ASFV affects the safety of global meat supply, so the establishment of sensitive and specific detection methods for ASFV has become an important hot spot in food safety. Herein, we developed a flexible magnetoelastic (ME) biosensor based on PDMS/FeSiB/QDs composite films for the detection of ASFV. Based on the high luminescence performance of CsPbBr3 quantum dots and the excellent magnetoelastic effect of FeSiB, flexible ME biosensors convert stress signals generated by antibody-antigen-specific binding into optical and electromagnetic signals. The nanostructures covalently linked by quantum dots and PDMS provide biomodification sites for ASFV antibodies, simplifying the functionalization modification process compared to conventional biosensors. The deformation of the PDMS film is amplified and conversion of surface stress signal to electrical signal is enhanced by exposing the biosensor to a uniform magnetic field. The experimental results proved that the flexible ME biosensor has wide linear range of 10 ng/mL - 100 μg/mL, and the detection limit is as low as 0.7933 ng/mL. Moreover, the flexible ME biosensor have also shown to good stability, sensitivity and specificity. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

While the millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication is robust against the conventional wiretapping attack due to its short transmission range and directivity, this paper proposes a new opportunistic wiretapping and jamming (OWJ) attack model in mmWave wireless networks. With OWJ, an eavesdropper can opportunistically conduct wiretapping or jamming to initiate a more hazardous attack based on the instantaneous costs of wiretapping and jamming. We also provide three realizations of the OWJ attack, which are mainly determined by the cost models relevant to distance, path loss and received power, respectively. To understand the impact of the new attack on mmWave network security, we first develop novel approximation techniques to characterize the irregular distributions of wiretappers, jammers and interferers under three OWJ realizations. With the help of the results of node distributions, we then derive analytical expressions for the secrecy transmission capacity to depict the network security performance under OWJ. Finally, we provide extensive numerical results to illustrate the effect of OWJ and to demonstrate that the new attack can more significantly degrade the network security performance than the pure wiretapping or jamming attack. © 2022, CC BY.

The enhanced sensitivity and selectivity of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas sensors are paramount for atmospheric environmental monitoring. In this work, a novel small-size ZIF-8/In2O3 core-shell nanocubes gas sensor was fabricated using a straightforward solvothermal method, complemented by in situ modification. The ZIF-8 film markedly increased the specific surface area of In2O3 nanocubes from 60.64 m²/g to 140.84 m²/g. Concurrently, there was a rise in the content of adsorbed oxygen ions on the surface. The gas-sensing results demonstrated that the ZIF-8/In2O3 composites achieved a response of 56.3 to 1 ppm of NO2, with an exceptionally low detection limit of 1 ppb. Importantly, it exhibited unique selectivity for NO2 over other interfering gases. The outstanding NO2 gas-sensing performance of the ZIF-8/In2O3 composites can be attributed to the grain model effect inherent in the In2O3 (with side lengths of approximately 40-50 nm), along with the sensitization influence and filtering efficacy of ZIF-8. This advancement in gas sensor technology has significant potential for applications in the rapid detection of low-concentration NO2 gas. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Continuous online ultra-clean separation of micro-particle contaminants is vital for lubricant oil. Although hydrocyclone is widely used to separate fine particles, it often suffers from short-flow, which makes ultra-clean separation of trace micro-particle contaminants remain challenging. Here, mini-hydrocylones with overflow microchannels based on the active control of short-flow were proposed for ultra-clean separation of micro-particle contaminants in lubricating oil. Φ18 mm mini-hydrocyclones with different microchannel cross-section diameters (1.5,1.25, 1, 0.75 mm) were manufactured by 3D printing technology for online micro-particle number separation experiments under low flow rates. The CFD simulation results show that the overflow microchannels reduce the short-flow by up to 81.3%. When the overflow microchannel to vortex finder diameter ratio is 0.21, the maximum number separation efficiency and mass separation efficiency can reach 99.98% for micro-particles larger than 9.8 μm. The concentration of particles larger than 9.8 μm at the outlet was 0.003 mg/L, which is 1/22 of that at the conventional hydrocyclone outlet;the number of particles was 1/ml, which is 1/30 of that at the conventional hydrocyclone outlet. The cleanliness of the purified oil reached the international standard (ISO-4406) of 17/13/7 grade, and it also showed excellent technical-economic performance. © 2022, The Authors. Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence.

There are various types of distributed generators (DGs) with different grid integration strategies. The transient characteristics of the fault currents provided by the DGs are different to those of conventional synchronous generators. In this paper, a distribution network with multi-type DGs is investigated, including consideration of DG low-voltage ride through (LVRT). The fault current characteristics of two typical DGs, i.e. an inverter-interfaced distributed generator (IIDG) and a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), are analyzed, considering the specific operation modes. Based on analysis of the fault characteristics, an equivalent model of the multi-type DGs under symmetrical/asymmetrical fault conditions is established. A fast-iterative fault calculation method for enhancing the calculation efficiency while avoiding local convergence is then proposed using an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. A simulation system of the distribution network with multi-type DGs is established in PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results validate the high accuracy and calculation efficiency of the proposed calculation method of the fault components. This can assist in the settings of the protection threshold.

Driven by advancements in photovoltaic (PV) technology, solar energy has emerged as a promising renewable energy source, due to its ease of integration onto building rooftops, facades, and windows. For the emerging cities, the lack of detailed street-level data presents a challenge for effectively assessing the potential of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV). To address this, this study introduces SolarSAM, a novel BIPV evaluation method that leverages remote sensing imagery and deep learning techniques, and an emerging city in northern China is utilized to validate the model performance. During the process, SolarSAM segmented various building rooftops using text prompt guided semantic segmentation. Separate PV models were then developed for Rooftop PV, Facade-integrated PV, and PV windows systems, using this segmented data and local climate information. The potential for BIPV installation, solar power generation, and city-wide power self-sufficiency were assessed, revealing that the annual BIPV power generation potential surpassed the city’s total electricity consumption by a factor of 2.5. Economic and environmental analysis were also conducted, including levelized cost of electricity and carbon reduction calculations, comparing different BIPV systems across various building categories. These findings demonstrated the model’s performance and reveled the potential of BIPV power generation in the future. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Particulate matter with diameters≤2.5μm(PM_(2.5))has been identified as a significant air pollutant contributing to premature ***,the specific compositions within PM_(2.5) that play the most crucial role remain unclear,especially in areas with high pollution *** study aims to investigate the individual and joint mortality risks associated with PM_(2.5) inorganic chemical compositions and identify primary *** 1998,we conducted a prospective cohort study in four northern Chinese cities(Tianjin,Shenyang,Taiyuan,and Rizhao).Satellite-based machine learning models calculated PM_(2.5) inorganic chemical compositions,including sulfate(SO_(4)^(2–)),nitrate(NO_(3)^(–)),ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)),and chloride(Cl^(-)).A time-varying Cox proportional hazards model was applied to analyze associations between these compositions and cardiorespiratory mortality,encompassing nonaccidental causes,cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),nonmalignant respiratory diseases(RDs),and lung *** quantile-based g-computation model evaluated joint exposure effects and relative contributions of the *** analysis was used to identify vulnerable *** 785,807 person-years of follow-up,5812(15.5%)deaths occurred from nonaccidental causes,including 2932(7.8%)from all CVDs,479(1.3%)from nonmalignant RDs,and 552(1.4%)from lung *** interquartile range(IQR)increase in SO_(4)^(2–)was associated with mortality from nonaccidental causes(hazard ratio:1.860;95%confidence interval:1.809,1.911),CVDs(1.909;1.836,1.985),nonmalignant RDs(2.178;1.975,2.403),and lung cancer(1.773;1.624,1.937).In the joint exposure model,a simultaneous rise of one IQR in all four compositions increased the risk of cardiorespiratory mortality by at least 36.3%,with long-term exposure to SO_(4)^(2–)contributing the most to nonaccidental and cardiopulmonary *** with higher incomes and lower education levels were found to be more vulnerable.
