Cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (CF mMIMO) systems are characterized by having many more access points (APs) than user equipments (UEs). A key challenge is to determine which APs should serve which UEs. Previous work has tackled this combinatorial problem heuristically. This paper proposes a sparse large-scale fading decoding (LSFD) design for CF mMIMO to jointly optimize the association and LSFD. We formulate a group sparsity problem and then solve it using a proximal algorithm with block-coordinate descent. Numerical results show that sparse LSFD achieves almost the same spectral efficiency as optimal LSFD, thus achieving a higher energy efficiency since the processing and signaling are reduced. Preselection is an important strategy to improve evolutionary algorithms’ performance by filtering out unpromising solutions before fitness evaluations. This paper introduces a pre-selection strategy based on an approximated Pareto domination relationship for multiobjective evolutionary optimization. For each objective, a binary relation between each pair of solutions is constructed based on the current population, and a binary classifier is built based on the binary relation pairs. In this way, an approximated Pareto domination relationship can be defined. When new trial solutions are generated, the approximated Pareto domination is used to select promising solutions, which shall be evaluated by the real objective functions. The new preselection is integrated into two algorithms. The experimental results on two benchmark test suites suggest that the algorithms with preselection outperform their original ones.

In order to construct a stable augmentation loop, a novel three-loop autopilot structure with an acceleration feedback is proposed. Based on LQR and analytical methods, the design process of the controller parameters is deduced. For a static unstable missile, the control characteristics of a three-loop autopilot with acceleration feedback are compared with classical three-loop and pseudo-angle-of-attack feedback three-loop autopilots. It is pointed out that the closed-loop gain of the three-loop autopilot with acceleration signal feedback is 1, which is not affected by the control parameters. The autopilot can control the static unstable missile, and the acceleration signal is easier to obtain than the pseudo-angle-of-attack.

In this paper, the composition and operation mechanism of a multi-aircraft cooperative simulation system is analyzed, with its formal architecture identified as a discrete event system differential equation system specifications (DEVDESS). Then, the operation and control problem of the cooperative simulation system is converted into the simulation control problem of a specific DEVDESS system. A coordinator-based test method for cooperative simulation is proposed and validated by tests of real-time mathematical simulation. © 2019 IEEE.

Municipal solid waste (MSW) without proper managements could be a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. MSW incineration with electricity recovery (MSW-IER) is recognized as a sustainable way to utilize waste, but its effectiveness on reducing GHG emissions at the city scale in China remain unclear due to limited data of MSW compositions. In this study, MSW compositions in 297 cities of China from 2002 to 2017 were predicted using a random forest model trained by a combination of socio-economic, climate and spatiotemporal factors. Spatiotemporal and climatic factors (such as economic development level, precipitation) accounted for 6.5%-20.7% and 20.1%-37.6% to total contributions on MSW composition, respectively. The GHG emissions from MSW-IER in each Chinese city were further calculated based on the predicted MSW compositions. The plastic is the main GHG emission source, accounting for over 91% of the total emission during 2002-2017. Compared to baseline (landfill) emission, the GHG emission reduction from MSW-IER was 12.5 × 107 kg CO2-eq in 2002 and 415 × 107 kg CO2-eq in 2017, with an average annual growth rate of 26.3%. The results provide basic data for estimating GHG emission in MSW management in China. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

High resolution and large range force/torque (F/T) measurements are usually required in many engineering tasks. However, most existing F/T sensors only have a fixed resolution over their whole ranges. The key lies in that it is difficult to well balance high resolution and large range in the sensor design. Taking the torque sensor for example, this paper presents a better compromise for this problem i.e., a novel variable resolution torque sensor based on variable stiffness principle. From the structural points of view, the sensor is constructed with multiple radial flexures to achieve a pure rotational motion with negligible parasitic center motions. Two resistive strain gauges (RSGs) are selected as the measuring units of the sensor to detect the applied external torque and meanwhile provide variable resolutions in the two different measuring ranges (each RSG for one range). Static and dynamic models of the sensor are established in details and validated through finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate its characteristics. A principle prototype is finally fabricated and tested to verify the effectiveness of the presented design. RSGs are calibrated through a commercial six-axis F/T sensor from ATI Industrial Automation, Inc. Experimental results show that the torque sensor can provide high and low resolutions in the small and large ranges respectively and possesses the first natural frequency of 67.3 Hz. In addition, the proposed variable resolution method can also be applied to the development of multi-axis F/T sensors.

Distributed energy resource (DER) including wind power, solar energy and energy storage system (ESS) are connected to the active distribution network (ADN) in various combination ways, which makes the distribution network have interaction. As a bridge connecting the transmission grid (TG) and micro grid (MG), ADN breaks the traditional operation pattern of TG+ADN+MG. Considering the physical connections and shared information among TG, ADN and MG, this paper proposes a decentralized and parallel analytical target cascading (ATC) algorithm for TG+ADN+MG multi-level co-optimization dispatch considering primary and secondary frequency regulation. To explore the synergistic ability of the TG+ADN+MG coping with uncertainties of DER, i.e., wind power, the primary and secondary frequency regulation of TG are implemented to cope with uncertainties. Furthermore, the distributional uncertainties of wind power and load are well modeled by data driven, which is proposed in our previous work [1]. An improved 6-bus system is used to test the proposed model, the numerical results illustrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method. © 2020 IEEE.

The Critical Role of PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling in BCP Ceramic-Induced Osteogenesis

Increasing studies demonstrate biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramics can induce bone regeneration. But the underlying molecular mechanisms involved are still poorly understood. This work was proposed to investigate how PI3k/AKT/mTOR signaling influenced the osteogenesis mediated by BCP ceramics. The results showed that a co-culture with BCP ceramics promoted the proliferation of murine bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in a time-dependent manner. But the resulting cell proliferation was then suppressed by the selective inhibition of either PI3k, AKT, or mTOR by LY294002, MK2206, or RAP, respectively. Next, we confirmed that BCP ceramics up-regulated the phosphorylation levels of AKT and mTOR, suggesting the ability of BCP ceramics to drive the activation of PI3k/AKT/mTOR signaling in BMSCs. Further, the blockade of PI3k/AKT/mTOR signaling prevented the BCP ceramics from up-regulating the expression of genes encoding OPN and RUNX2 indicating osteogenic differentiation and VEGF referring to pro-angiogenesis by BMSCs, and suppressed the infiltration of stem cells and new bone formation in the implants following intra-muscular implantation of BCP ceramics in the mice. Therefore, our results suggested that PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling played a critical regulatory role in BCP ceramic-induced osteogenesis. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
