Aspect-oriented programming makes possible to express changes in a modular way directly at the level of programming language constructs. This is particularly useful in situations that require explicit change manipulation, such as change reapplication to another version branch in application customization. However, it may be tricky to employ appropriate aspect-oriented constructs in a correct way that accommodates well the change to be implemented. This has been successfully addressed by an approach to aspect-oriented change realization based on a two-level change type model, which features a catalog of specification and implementation change types and their relationships, primarily targeting the web application domain. In this paper, we explore the applicability of the change types gathered in this catalog for the mobile application domain. For this, we performed a study that involved a set of hypothetical scenarios and two real mobile applications for Android. The study revealed that the change types known from the web application domain are in their essence applicable to the mobile application domain. It also lead to the discovery of four new specification change types in the mobile application domain and the corresponding specification-implementation change type relationships along with further relationships between known change types. © 2018 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems have entered the stage of commercial development, providing users with new services and improved user experiences as well as offering a host of novel opportunities to various industries. However, 5G still faces many challenges. To address these challenges, international industrial, academic, and standards organizations have commenced research on sixth generation (6G) wireless communication systems. A series of white papers and survey papers have been published, which aim to define 6G in terms of requirements, application scenarios, key technologies, etc. Although ITU-R has been working on the 6G vision and it is expected to reach a consensus on what 6G will be by mid-2023, the related global discussions are still wide open and the existing literature has identified numerous open issues. This paper first provides a comprehensive portrayal of the 6G vision, technical requirements, and application scenarios, covering the current common understanding of 6G. Then, a critical appraisal of the 6G network architecture and key technologies is presented. Furthermore, existing testbeds and advanced 6G verification platforms are detailed for the first time. In addition, future research directions and open challenges are identified for stimulating the on-going global debate. In many practical applications, deep neural networks have been typically deployed to operate as a black box predictors. Despite high amount of work on interpretability and high demand on reliability of these systems, they typically still have to include a human actor in the loop, to validate the decisions and handle unpredictable failures and unexpected corner cases. This is true in particular for failure-critical application domains, such as medical diagnosis. We present a novel approach to explain and support an interpretation of a decision-making process to a human expert operating a deep learning system based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). By modeling activation statistics on selected layers of a trained CNN via Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM), we develop a novel perceptual code in binary vector space that describes how input sample is processed by the CNN. By measuring distances between pairs of samples in this perceptual encoding space, for any new input sample, we can now retrieve a set of most perceptually similar and dissimilar samples from an existing atlas of labeled samples, to support and clarify the decision made by the CNN model. Possible uses of this approach include for example Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems working with medical imaging data, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computed Tomography (CT) scans. We demonstrate the viability of our method in the domain of medical imaging for patient condition diagnosis, as proposed decision explanation method via similar ground truth domain examples (e.g. from existing diagnosis archives) will be interpretable by the operating medical personnel. Tolerancing symbols play an important role in mechanical product drawings, and they directly determine the functions, mating properties, interchangeability and working life of geometrical products. A symbolic tolerancing callout containing a set of symbols represents a set of pre-ordered operations with attributes. It includes an amount of knowledge from the drawing and standard documents, which is often reconstructed manually by engineers. Thus, at the same time, a symbolic tolerancing callout makes it difficult for the end-user to understand and interpret these callouts manually. To this end, this study puts forward a tolerancing callout detection model via the use of off-the-shelf costumer-grade cameras on current mobile devices for extracting and recognizing tolerancing callout blocks and symbols in them intelligently. This model has four core components: image preprocessing, callout location and extraction, symbol and character segmentation, and deep learning-based symbol recognition. The image preprocessing component is developed to remove the interferences on the target technical drawings through the corresponding morphological methods. This study proposes a novel solution on callout block locations and extractions in callout intensive scenarios since the callout locations and extractions can directly affect the accuracy of symbol and character recognitions. Then, Huff Transform and improved projection methods have been devised to symbol and character segmentations. Finally, this study constructed a convolutional neural network (CNN) to train a symbol recognition model. The experimental results show that the proposed model gains applicability on intelligent callout extractions and the corresponding symbol recognitions.

Effectively balancing the losses from mobility restrictions and hospital capacity strain has drawn significant attention in the aftermath of COVID-19. Reinforcement learning (RL)-based strategies for human mobility management have recently advanced in addressing the dynamic evolution of cities and epidemics; however, they still face challenges in achieving coordinated control at the township level and adapting to cities of varying scales. To address the above issues, we propose a multi-agent RL approach that achieves Pareto optimality in managing hospital capacity and human mobility (H2-MARL), applicable across cities of different population scales. We first develop a township-level infection model with online-updatable parameters to simulate disease transmission and construct a city-wide dynamic spatiotemporal epidemic simulator. On this basis, H2-MARL is designed to treat each division as an agent, with a trade-off dual-objective reward function formulated and an experience replay buffer enriched with expert knowledge built. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model, we construct a township-level human mobility dataset containing over one billion records from four representative cities of varying scales. Extensive experiments demonstrate that H2-MARL has the optimal dual-objective trade-off capability, which can simultaneously minimize hospital capacity strain and human mobility restriction loss. Meanwhile, the applicability of the proposed model to epidemic control in cities of varying scales is verified, which showcases its feasibility and versatility in practical applications.

It is well-known that the values of symbolic variables may take various forms such as an interval, a set of stochastic measurements of some underlying patterns or qualitative multi-values and so on. However, the majority of existing work in symbolic data analysis still focuses on interval values. Although some pioneering work in stochastic pattern based symbolic data and mixture of symbolic variables has been explored, it still lacks flexibility and computation efficiency to make full use of the distinctive individual symbolic variables. Therefore, we bring forward a novel hierarchical clustering method with weighted general Jaccard distance and effective global pruning strategy for complex symbolic data and apply it to emitter identification. Extensive experiments indicate that our method has outperformed its peers in both computational efficiency and emitter identification accuracy.

Deep convolutional neural network (CNN) achieves remarkable performance for medical image analysis. UNet is the primary source in the performance of 3D CNN architectures for medical imaging tasks, including brain tumor segmentation. The skip connection in the UNet architecture concatenates features from both encoder and decoder paths to extract multi-contexual information from image data. The multi-scaled features play an essential role in brain tumor segmentation. However, the limited use of features can degrade the performance of the UNet approach for segmentation. In this paper, we propose a modified UNet architecture for brain tumor segmentation. In the proposed architecture, we used densely connected blocks in both encoder and decoder paths to extract multi-contexual information from the concept of feature reusability. The proposed residual inception blocks (RIB) are used to extract local and global information by merging features of different kernel sizes. We validate the proposed architecture on the multimodal brain tumor segmentation challenges (BRATS) 2020 testing dataset. The dice (DSC) scores of the whole tumor (WT), tumor core (TC), and enhancement tumor (ET) are 89.12%, 84.74%, and 79.12%, respectively. It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced information and Communication technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness. In privacy-preserving machine learning, individual parties are reluctant to share their sensitive training data due to privacy concerns. Even the trained model parameters or prediction can pose serious privacy leakage. To address these problems, we demonstrate a generally applicable Distributed Privacy-Preserving Prediction (DPPP) framework, in which instead of sharing more sensitive data or model parameters, an untrusted aggregator combines only multiple models' predictions under provable privacy guarantee. Our framework integrates two main techniques to guarantee individual privacy. First, we introduce the improved Binomial Mechanism and Discrete Gaussian Mechanism to achieve distributed differential privacy. Second, we utilize homomorphic encryption to ensure that the aggregator learns nothing but the noisy aggregated prediction. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework has comparable performance to the non-private frameworks and delivers better results than the local differentially private framework and standalone framework.
