Judging mental fatigue can be guided by acquiring and analyzing various physiological data. However, the existing equipment focuses on single physiological signals, such as electroencephalogram (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG), which ignores the preponderance of multimodal physiological signals in fatigue states. Alternatively, some equipment is difficult to operate and thus unsuitable for portable applications. To this end, this paper details the design of a miniaturized multi-physiological signal acquisition system. The system not only acquires EEG and ECG based on combining wavelet transform with Kalman filter, but also uses precise temperature sensors to synchronously acquire proximal skin temperature signals which are not easily interfered with by environmental noise or other physiological signals of human body. Through a fatigue assessment experiment on ten healthy subjects, it was verified that our equipment reliably detects mental fatigue states by monitoring and analyzing EEG, ECG, and proximal skin temperature data. In actual applications, this system appears to the traits of easy operation and good stability. It provides better hardware support for the pervasive applications and concrete implementation of mental health in multi-scene, and can popularize use.

Transition from conventional to digital pathology requires a new category of biomedical informatic infrastructure which could facilitate delicate pathological routine. Pathological diagnoses are sensitive to many external factors and is known to be subjective. Only systems that can meet strict requirements in pathology would be able to run along pathological routines and eventually digitized the area, and the developed platform should comply with existing pathological routines and international standards. Currently, there are a number of available software tools which can perform histopathological tasks including virtual slide viewing, annotating, and basic image analysis, however, none of them can serve as a digital platform for pathology. Here we describe OpenHI2, an enhanced version Open Histopathological Image platform which is capable of supporting all basic pathological tasks and file formats;ready to be deployed in medical institutions on a standard server environment or cloud computing infrastructure. In this paper, we also describe the development decisions for the platform and propose solutions to overcome technical challenges including responsive region retrieval and viewing, virtual slide magnification, recording of diagnostic areas. These factors would promote OpenHI2 be used as a platform for histopathological images in real-world clinical settings. Furthermore, in research, OpenHI2 inherited the annotation functionality from the previous version, thus acquired annotations can be directly utilized by the newly added machine learning module which include popular machine learning models to perform tasks such as histology image classification and segmentation in the same environment. Homophobia and discrimination towards men who have sex with men (MSM) make the mental health of this community a severe concern. The prevalence of mobile social apps for MSM provides a new channel to study their mental health issues. However, the correlation between the psychological states of MSM and their behaviors on social apps are still uninvestigated. In this paper, we conduct a case study of 103 MSM in China to explore whether the User Generated Content, Profile, Mobility information of MSM on social apps correlate with their depression, loneliness, anxiety and stress level. The analysis results indicate that the mental health disorder level of MSM is correlated with the emotion expressed in posts, whether the user has filled in self-description blank, the social relationship among online friends, frequency of visiting popular gays-meeting places. Our findings imply future opportunities in early psychological problems detection and intervention.

Future quantum computers are likely to be expensive and affordable outright by few, motivating client/server models for outsourced computation. However, the applications for quantum computing will often involve sensitive data, and the client would like to keep her data secret, both from eavesdroppers and the server itself. Homomorphic encryption is an approach for encrypted, outsourced quantum computation, where the client's data remains secret, even during execution of the computation. We present a scheme for the homomorphic encryption of arbitrary quantum states of light with no more than a fixed number of photons, under the evolution of both passive and adaptive linear optics, the latter of which is universal for quantum computation. The scheme uses random coherent displacements in phase-space to obfuscate client data. In the limit of large coherent displacements, the protocol exhibits asymptotically perfect information-theoretic secrecy. The experimental requirements are modest, and easily implementable using present-day technology.

This paper aims at developing a clustering approach with spectral images directly from CASSI compressive measurements. The proposed clustering method first assumes that compressed measurements lie in the union of multiple low-dimensional subspaces. Therefore, sparse subspace clustering (SSC) is an unsupervised method that assigns compressed measurements to their respective subspaces. In addition, a 3D spatial regularizer is added into the SSC problem, thus taking full advantages of the spatial information contained in spectral images. The performance of the proposed spectral image clustering approach is improved by taking optimal CASSI measurements obtained when optimal coded apertures are used in CASSI system. Simulation with one real dataset illustrates the accuracy of the proposed spectral image clustering approach. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the information-oriented society, there are increasing needs to conduct data communication with nearby devices/people. In this light, vibration-based communication method was proposed as one of possible communication means between adjacent devices. This method has been expected to provide an intuitive and safe communication by propagating vibration to a receiver device. This study proposes two types of techniques, which are multi-step ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying) with pseudo clock and PPM (Pulse Position Modulation), to achieve a stable vibration-based communication simply using smart device functions. These proposed techniques are then evaluated through some experiments using several types of smart devices. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed methods is discussed based on the experimental results.

Researches have shown that diet recording can help people increase awareness of food intake and improve nutrition management, and thereby maintain a healthier life. Recently, researchers have been working on smartphone-based diet recording methods and applications that help users accomplish two tasks: record what they eat and how much they eat. Although the former task has made great progress through adopting image recognition technology, it is still a challenge to estimate the volume of foods accurately and conveniently. In this paper, we propose a novel method, named MUSEFood, for food volume estimation. MUSEFood uses the camera to capture photos of the food, but unlike existing volume measurement methods, MUSEFood requires neither training images with volume information nor placing a reference object of known size while taking photos. In addition, considering the impact of different containers on the contour shape of foods, MUSEFood uses a multi-task learning framework to improve the accuracy of food segmentation, and uses a differential model applicable for various containers to further reduce the negative impact of container differences on volume estimation accuracy. Furthermore, MUSEFood uses the microphone and the speaker to accurately measure the vertical distance from the camera to the food in a noisy environment, thus scaling the size of food in the image to its actual size. The experiments on real foods indicate that MUSEFood outperforms state-of-the-art approaches, and highly improves the speed of food volume estimation.

Within the small satellite mission TeehnoSat of Teehnisehe Universität Berlin, a verification strategy based on Dynamic Analysis has been applied to the C++-operating system RODOS using automated massive stimulation of the software-under-test. This approach is aiming at evaluating the robustness of the software and to derive feedback on the implemented messaging scheme of the on-board process chain. For fault detection and recording of message exchange the code is automatically instrumented with application-independent indicators which shall flag anomalies. Manual fault analysis is limited to the reported issues highlighting fault potential in contrast to usual reviews on the full code. The suggested reviews were extended to similar code, an approach which turned out as being effective. For the verification of the messaging scheme observed functional and performance properties were evaluated. The verification strategy targets the reduction of costs of verification and risks. Within this paper, the different verification steps are described and examples for reported issues are given. © ARCS 2018.

This study uses Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization (QPSO) optimized Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), standard RNN, and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models to anticipate educational building power demand accurately. Energy efficiency, cost reduction, and resource allocation depend on accurate load forecasts. The study evaluates model performance using year-long load data from seasonal, daily, and hourly fluctuations. Performance indicators, including Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), were used to assess the models. The QPSO-optimized RNN outperformed traditional RNN and ARIMA models with the lowest MAE of 15.2, MSE of 520.15, and RMSE of 22.8. Comparative investigation shows the QPSO-RNN’s capacity to capture complicated load data patterns, especially during peak demand. This study shows that hybrid optimization can improve forecasting accuracy, making it a powerful tool for energy management in dynamic contexts. © The Author(s) 2025.
