Sociality-based comprehensive buffer management for multicast in DTNs

In delay tolerant networks (DTNs), multicast is widely adopted for emergency notification in crisis environments, or data scattering under military rescue situations, due to its robustness and high resource utilisation. Although the topology of DTNs is highly dynamic, they also demonstrate relatively stable social characteristics, e.g., the social centrality. In this paper, we propose a sociality-based comprehensive buffer management for multicast routing (SCBMR), where nodes with high social centrality are selected in priority as relay nodes. However, choosing nodes with high centrality may result in great transmission workload on these nodes, and consequently they have to drop messages frequently when the buffer space is limited. We thus design a corresponding buffer management strategy that drops the buffered messages with more replicas and shorter TTL in the network. This will save the buffer space for the messages that has not been well-distributed in the network. Through extensive simulation, we verify that SCBMR can increase the data delivery ratio significantly without compromising the transmission cost and delay. Atomic layer deposition (ALD), a gas-phase thin film deposition technique based on repeated, self-terminating gas-solid reactions, has become the method of choice in semiconductor manufacturing and many other technological areas for depositing thin conformal inorganic material layers for various applications. ALD has been discovered and developed independently, at least twice, under different names: atomic layer epitaxy (ALE) and molecular layering. ALE, dating back to 1974 in Finland, has been commonly known as the origin of ALD, while work done since the 1960s in the Soviet Union under the name "molecular layering" (and sometimes other names) has remained much less known. The virtual project on the history of ALD (VPHA) is a volunteer-based effort with open participation, set up to make the early days of ALD more transparent. In VPHA, started in July 2013, the target is to list, read and comment on all early ALD academic and patent literature up to 1986. VPHA has resulted in two essays and several presentations at international conferences. This paper, based on a poster presentation at the 16th International Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition in Dublin, Ireland, 2016, presents a recommended reading list of early ALD publications, created collectively by the VPHA participants through voting. The list contains 22 publications from Finland, Japan, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, and United States. Up to now, a balanced overview regarding the early history of ALD has been missing;the current list is an attempt to remedy this deficiency. © 2016 Author(s).

In the present paper a neural network approach called "Adaptive Critic Design" (ACD) was applied to optimal tuning of set point controllers of the three main substrates (sugar, nitrogen source and dissolved oxygen) for PHB production process. For approximation of the critic and the controllers a special kind of recurrent neural networks called Echo state networks (ESN) were used. Their structure allows fast training that will be of crucial importance in on-line applications. The critic network is trained to minimize the temporal difference error using Recursive Least Squares method. Two approaches - gradient and heuristic - were exploited for training of the controllers. The comparison is made with respect to achieved improvement of the utility function subject of optimization as well as with known expert strategy for control the PHB production process.

Although interactive e-learning environments are increasingly used in university courses, traditional types of examination still dominate the way how students are assessed for grades. In this paper, we examined how student data from online interactive learning environment for programming exercises can be used for summative assessment at the end of the course. Using data from three different university courses, we calibrated the two parameter logistic regression model, ranked students according to their ability of solving problems, and matched them to final grades. Results indicate we can predict grades within 0.57 to 1.02 level of accuracy, suggesting that careful use of interactive e-learning environments in university courses can substitute existing assessment methods, opening further possibilities for innovation in instructional process. Bridges are the hubs of transportation, so it is important to identify and locate bridges for satellite image interpretation. This paper proposes a new method of bridge extraction from high resolution remote sensing images. Firstly, river regions are segmented and road lineaments are extracted. Then, bridge region is represented as intersection of river with roads or roads with roads by using the recognition model proposed in this paper. Finally, a rule-based procedure is applied to verify candidate regions. The experiment results show that, not only bridges over river but also the overpasses can be extracted effectively. The method mainly uses structural information of lineaments on roads and the topological relations in bridge regions, and does not rely on accurate results of river segmentation, so it is robust for complex scenes. © 2014 IEEE.

Considering an absence of formalization in educational content notation analysis and design on the contrary of other fields, where modeling plays irreplaceable role we have performed certain experiments. We have abstracted certain equivalence between graduate profile and a profession profile. Subsequently we have substituted this profiles as a system of a knowledge, ability, skills etc. Applied substitution between profiles and a system allows us to treat it in analogy with software engineering process - Unified Process which describes how requirements are turned into educational content. Such approach leads to models with zero redundancy which is very important for educational content even for computer aided education or distance learning. The results of our experiment experiment we have examined also by short short questionnaire. © 2014 IEEE.

Content-based filtering methods fall short in situations where there are many similar items to recommend from, for instance when recommending articles from multiple news portals. To deal with this problem, we can consider the novelty of recommendations. Detecting novelty is usually implemented as finding the most dissimilar articles. We propose a method that uses topic modelling to find the novelty of articles. Our method ranks topics by their importance and novelty to the user and recommends articles according to their topics. We evaluate our method and compare it to other approaches to novelty recommendation and also to a method that doesn't take novelty into account. The results show that our method was more successful than the other approaches to novelty detection in recommending relevant articles that the users were interested in. It also showed a better click-through rate than the method that didn't incorporate novelty, although the order of its recommendations was less optimal.

information hiding based on error correcting code is one of the difficulties in information hiding research. Current information hiding algorithms cannot confirm the upper bound of covert channel capacity when channels are interfered. In this paper, a capacity self-adaption information hiding algorithm based on RS code is proposed to solve this problem. Firstly, Channel covert communication model is designed to describe the realization of information hiding algorithms based on the m-sequence. Secondly, the upper bound of embedding capacity of secret information based on block code and RS code is separately analyzed in theory. Thirdly, simulation verification is implemented under the supposed channel environment. Experimental results demonstrated that experimental values are consistent with the theoretical values, and in terms of the embedding rate, the performance of the RS code is better than the performance of recurrent code and block code. © 2014 IEEE.

We describe the open-source global fitting package GAMBIT: the Global And Modular Beyond-the-Standard-Model Inference Tool. GAMBIT combines extensive calculations of observables and likelihoods in particle and astroparticle physics with a hierarchical model database, advanced tools for automatically building analyses of essentially any model, a flexible and powerful system for interfacing to external codes, a suite of different statistical methods and parameter scanning algorithms, and a host of other utilities designed to make scans faster, safer and more easily-extendible than in the past. Here we give a detailed description of the framework, its design and motivation, and the current models and other specific components presently implemented in GAMBIT.
