A Multi-stage Method to Extract Road from High Resolution Satellite Image

Extracting road information from high-resolution satellite images is complex and hardly achieves by exploiting only one or two modules. This paper presents a multi-stage method, consisting of automatic information extraction and semi-automatic post-processing. The Multi-scale Enhancement algorithm enlarges the contrast of human-made structures with the background. The Statistical Region Merging segments images into regions, whose skeletons are extracted and pruned according to geometry shape information. Setting the start and the end skeleton points, the shortest skeleton path is constructed as a road centre line. The Bidirectional Adaptive Smoothing technique smoothens the road centre line and adjusts it to right position. With the smoothed line and its average width, a Buffer algorithm reconstructs the road region easily. Seen from the last results, the proposed method eliminates redundant non-road regions, repairs incomplete occlusions, jumps over complete occlusions, and reserves accurate road centre lines and neat road regions. During the whole process, only a few interactions are needed.

In this paper,we present an opportunistic spectrum sharing(OSS) scheme with quality-of-service(QoS) support for the secondary users(SUs) with nonreal-time(NRT) traffic and real-time(RT) traffic in the presence of unreliable spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks(CRNs).We also model the scheme using a 4dimentional continuous-time Markov chain and derive spectrum sharing performance by taking the spectrum sensing errors into *** results show that the proposed scheme can improve the performance of SUs significantly and guarantee the QoS requirements of RTSUs even under unreliable spectrum detection.

At Crypto'07, Goyal introduced the notion of accountable authority identity-based encryption (A-IBE) in order to mitigate the inherent key escrow problem in identity-based encryption, and proposed two concrete constructions. In an A-IBE system, if the private key generator (PKG) distributes a decryption key or produces an unauthorized decryption box for a user maliciously, it runs the risk of being caught and sued in the court of law with the help of a tracing algorithm. Subsequent efforts focused on constructions of A-IBE schemes with enhanced security. In these A-IBE constructions, the tracing algorithm needs to take a user's decryption key as input. If the user lost his key or is deliberately uncooperative in court, then we cannot implicate the PKG or the user. An interesting open problem left by Goyal et al. at CCS'08 is to consider the possibility of tracing a decryption box using only a public tracing key, or with the assistance of a tracing authority. In this paper, we address this problem positively. We first extend the original model of A-IBE to accommodate public traceability, and then propose an A-IBE scheme in the new model. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed scheme is the first A-IBE with public traceability. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The paper presents the application of multi-criteria optimisation to steel alloy composition determination aimed at obtaining improved properties material for crankshafts production. Neural network model of steel mechanical characteristics in dependence on amounts of its alloying elements was used for simulation purpose. Two optimisation approaches were applied to find optimal alloys composition. In the first one, several Pareto optimal solutions were found based on those obtained by simulation numerous compositions in the investigated region of interest. The second one used Taguchi method for robust design. The obtained optimal solutions were compared and decision about further production experiments was taken. VENTURE is a simulation-based training platform aimed at helping practitioners overcome process problems that arise in Global software Development (GSD). VENTURE places practitioners in simulated GSD scenarios in which they play a role and interact with Virtual Agents, who represent team members from different nationalities. VENTURE makes it possible to simulate cultural, linguistic and GSD procedural problems gathered from experience and empirical studies. This paper reports on a Feasibility Study aimed to determine the potential of VENTURE to: 1) simulate GSD scenarios and processes of potential conflict, and 2) train practitioners to cope with these conflicts by interacting with virtual agents. A group of researchers and experts studied the platform and, through a survey-based method, they provided their endorsement of the concept. We received positive feedback and encouragement, in that the simulation of GSD processes will effectively provide training in industrial settings, helping practitioners to identify and resolve predefined problems. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

Significant trend in software development is oriented mainly on distributed systems. One of the main problems in the current world of information technologies is the ever-increasing amount of digital data and complexity of problems that are being solved. In such conditions, developing a distributed system that needs to response promptly, can be very difficult and without proper techniques can lead to failure. Processing of potentially large volumes of incoming messages or events from various sources is also specific to the reactive computing. It can be assumed that the number of resources and their diversity will only grow. For that reason we have analyzed common approaches in distributed systems development. In this paper we introduce complex event processing. We try to evaluate its assets concerning design, implementation, modifiability, and flexibility of reactive distributed systems. For this purpose, we have implemented a functional model of an electronic toll collection system, based on system specifications for Slovak conditions. Significant flexibility is achieved in comparison with existing solutions. We also present the possibilities of complex event processing application in reactive distributed system design. Based on gained knowledge even implemented a functional model we have evaluated complex event processing impact on system’s functionality, modifiability, performance and other characteristics.

The present paper is an attempt for acceptable balance between theoretical research, computer simulations and experiments on real industrial objects. Several rules and recommendations are retrieved from the obtained results about the exploitation domains of certain classes of industrial metallurgical objects. The practical trend of the presented results is contained in our efforts for a comparative analysis and also to form rules of the presented methods for intelligent predictive diagnostics. An original method is proposed for predictive maintenance of a metallurgical ladle based on simulations of diagnostics and forecasting of the current state of high-temperature objects. Knowing the condition of the insulation of metallurgical ladles especially at the end of the campaign is essential for operational management in a case of local damage.
