The performance of an organic thin film photodiode (OPD), fabricated from a hetero-junction comprised of two layers of C60 and a phthalocyanine-Cu(II) complex was evaluated by detecting the chemiluminescence generated from the reaction of luminol with horseradish peroxidase in the presence of H2O2, and the fluorescence from resorufin, as an optical detector. The photocurrent of the OPD was linear with respect to the power of light from a commercial LED. The sensitivity of the OPD was sufficient for detecting chemiluminescence with a power 0.1 μW/cm2. The OPD was successfully used in a flow-immunoassay for IgA, a marker of human stress, in which a sandwich immunoassay was carried out on the microchip and the fluorescence from resorufin, produced by the enzymatic reaction, was detected. The detection limits for resorufin and IgA were 5.0 μM and 16 ng/mL, respectively. The photosensitivity of the OPD remained relatively constant for a minimum of one year. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. In this paper we describe a method for recommending news on a news portal based on our novel representation by a similarity tree. Our method for recommending articles is based on their content. The recommendation employs a hierarchical incremental clustering which is used to discover additional information for effective recommending. The important and novel part of our method is an approach to discovering the interests of individual readers using tree structure created according to similarity of articles. We concentrate on enabling the recommendations in any time, i.e. we discover user's interests real-time. Our method discovers specific interests of the reader using information gained from monitoring his activities in the news portal. We describe the mechanisms for recommending up-to-date and relevant articles. It is based on known solutions, but incorporates unique representation of user interests by binary tree. Moreover, our aim was to provide recommendations in real-time. Recommendations are thus generated depending on the actual reader's interest. We also present an evaluation of recommendations in the experiment where we use accounts of real readers and their history of reading.

Lack of hearing ability hinders deaf children from mastering grammar in language studies. Unfortunately, such software targeting Malay language is limited. This paper attempts to generate new approach in handling such software. These include detection of defects when switching into local languages, date format and accommodating the local laws. The acceptance of international software for local use goes beyond just these aspects. For this purpose, software that supports the multi-languages is evaluated. The main research question of this paper: The lack of cultural dimensions in localisation testing of assistive technology decreases the effectiveness of localisation testing of the localised software. On the account of cultural dimensions, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions will be experimented to study which cultural dimensions are most suited for such software. From our empirical results, the failure rate of the testing is higher compared to incorporating culture dimensions. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents our work for the Realtime Adhoc Task of TREC 2011 Microblog Track. Microblog texts like tweets are generally characterized by the inclusion of a large proportion of irregular expressions, such as ill- formed words, which can lead to significant mismatch between query terms and tweets. In addition. Twitter queries are distinguished from Web queries with many unique characteristics, one of which reflects the clearly distinct temporal aspects of Twitter search behavior. In this study, we deal with the first problem by normalizing tweet texts and the second by capturing the temporal characteristics of a topic. We divided topics into two categories: time-sensitive and time-insensitive. For the time-sensitive ones, we introduce a decay factor to adjust the relevance score of results according to the expected date of the topical event to happen, and then re-rank the search results. Experiments demonstrate that our methods are significantly better than baseline and outperform the medium of all runs.

In the process of web service composition, the check and prevention of semantic incompatibility is one of the most important issues. In this paper, a controlled Petri net (CtlPN)-based model for web service composition is proposed. Meanwhile, the optimal controller is constructed, such that the appropriate vectors of controllable place and arc are appended in the key transition which can lead to deadlock states. In addition, for the semantic incompatibility case, a policy based on appending optimal controller is presented. It is proved that our policy can be a good solution. Finally, the proposed controller is transformed as the activity of BPEL. © 2010 IEEE.

Nowadays we are facing the daily information overload. It is thus difficult to get exactly the information we need. It often happens that while reading, we find a word we do not understand and we would need an explanation or some additional information about this word. For this purpose annotations in the Web environment are created and attached to such words. In this paper we propose a method for an automatic extension of the content available on the Web by adding annotations to selected terms (keywords) in the text. The method is designed to be able to insert annotations into the text written in Slovak with a potential to be language independent. Annotations themselves are obtained through publicly available services providing information retrieval. We adapt created annotations taking into account implicit feedback from users in form of click through data. We evaluate the proposed method in the environment of an educational web-based system.

In this paper we focus on educational content creating - curriculum design. We see certain problems with overburdened curriculum, writing correct content in order to its focus, understanding ability because of the quantity, and verifiability of educational content in certain study program. We have studied approaches in different fields with the similar problems. Analogical problem was solved in software engineering in 1968. We have performed experiment and created model for certain subject. For that reason we have implemented custom software tool. As a result we found that impact of the modeling in curriculum design is at least promising research direction.

This paper shows how intrinsic aspect-oriented design patterns can be used to implement object-oriented design patterns in order to achieve better composability compared to both original implementations of object-oriented design patterns and their aspect-oriented reimplementations. Director, an aspect-oriented pattern known for its ability to replace a number of object-oriented patterns, owes its success to its obliviousness to the problems addressed by the patterns it can be used instead of. The paper proposes how two other intrinsic aspect-oriented patterns can be used as an alternative to object-oriented patterns: Worker Object Creation can be successfully used instead of Proxy, while Cuckoo's Egg can replace Singleton, Abstract Factory, and Flyweight. To check that these replacements are valid beyond their isolated application, a small study has been conducted in which a composition of Worker Object Creation and Cuckoo's Egg in place of the composition of the original object-oriented patterns Proxy, Singleton, Abstract Factory, and Flyweight has been used. To assess the implementation of intrinsic aspect-oriented patterns compared to object-oriented patterns they replace and their aspect-oriented reimplementations, software metrics relevant both to object-oriented and aspect-oriented code mainly with respect to separation of concerns have been applied.

Activity plays an important role in human life. Psychology as scientific discipline knows several categories of activities, motivations to activity, their characteristics etc. A significant group of these activities expects some cognitions, knowledge and skills. We identify particular relations, arrangement respectively event hierarchy, which is represented by expression of requested knowledge. Existing knowledge is not sufficient for execution certain activities. Therefore it is necessary to interact with the new content - holder of such knowledge. This paper provides an alternative way of identifying of content curriculum by analogy to the technology of Complex Event Processing and Event Driven Architecture. Identified content is a key in relation to national-education program creating as well as school-education program. Proposed method is implemented by modelling tool EDUMO.
