We present a method for navigation support by visualization of actual web page context. We browse and incrementally visualize a graph representing an abstraction of web navigation where nodes represent web pages and edges represent relationships between them expressed either by explicit links (one page linking to another through the content) or implied relationships (relevant pages several clicks away). We proposed several metrics for edge relevance evaluation. In the metrics, existing metadata in form of tags associated with bookmarks offered by collaborative social bookmarking sites is employed and user preferences represented by their tag usage are taken into account.

Faced with the challenge of finding ways to use an evergrowing transistor budget, microarchitects have begun to move towards the chip multiprocessors (CMPs) as an attractive solution. CMPs have become a common way of reducing chip complexity and power consumption while maintaining high performance. Multiple cores are replicated on a single chip, resulting in a potential linear scaling of performance. Cores are becoming sufficiently small with technology scaling. As technology continues to scale, inter-die and intra-die variations in process parameters can result in significant impact on performance and power consumption, leading to asymmetry among the cores that were designed to be symmetric. Adaptive voltage scaling can be used to bring all cores to the same performance level leaving only core-to-core power variations. The goal of our work is to find the optimal frequency that balances performance with power against asymmetry. We also demonstrate that traditional task scheduling techniques need to be revisited to mitigate the effects of process variations. Copyright 2008 ACM.

With reducing feature size, the effects of process variations are becoming more and more predominant. Memory components such as on-chip caches are more susceptible to such variations because of high density and small sized transistors present in them. Process variations can result in high access latency and leakage energy dissipation. This may lead to a functionally correct chip being rejected, resulting in reduced chip yield. In this paper, by considering a process variation affected on-chip data cache, we first analyze performance loss due to worst-case design techniques such as accessing the entire cache with the worst-case access latency or turning off the process variation affected cache blocks, and show that the worst-case design techniques result in significant performance loss and/or high leakage energy. Then by exploiting the fact that not all applications require full associativity at set-level, we propose a variation-tolerant design technique, namely, block remap with turnoff (BRT), to minimize performance loss and leakage energy consumption. In BRT technique we selectively turnoff few blocks after rearranging them in such a way that all sets get almost equal number of process variation affected blocks. By turning off process variation affected blocks of a set, leakage energy can be minimized and the set can be accessed with low latency at the cost of reduced set associativity. We validate our technique by running SPEC2000 CPU benchmark-suite on Simplescalar simulator and show that our technique significantly reduces the performance loss and leakage energy consumption due to process variations. ©2008 IEEE.

Distributed Virtual Geographic Environment(DVGE) faces some challenges and problems including the factor of the mass data of VGE, the band width of network, the numerous requests and economic factors, etc. These problems directly cause the current DVGE could not provide the public with high-quality service under current network mode. Hence, this paper brings forth a research on large-scale peer-to-peer network extension of DVGE as well as a deep study on network framework and the routing algorithm of it. Finally, we conduct a simulation of the DVGE based on the routing algorithm. © 2008 SPIE.

The semantic Web services composition process arranges several Web services into one composite to realize complex workflows. To do this, semantic metadata of Web services' description are used. The current approaches based mainly on AI planning are immature to be used in practice. In this paper we propose an approach involving users in the semantic Web services composition to help overcome problems occurring in the composition process. The basic idea is to find the users helpful in situations when preconditions are not satisfied or some input data are not available which are in demand to create a composition.

Characteristics in the user model can be acquired and maintained in several ways, namely by means of implicit or explicit feedback, observation of user's actions, log analysis, etc. We use analysis of the content that is presented to a user. We assume that comparing documents and analyzing their common and different aspects can lead to information about user's interests. We work in the Semantic Web environment where ontologies are used as a mean for content representation. We proposed a recursive method to evaluate similarity of ontological concepts. But computed similarities do not take into account user's individuality, i.e. the same results are computed for each user. User's perception of the similarity measure is subjective. Therefore, we extend the method to compute similarity with regard to the user.

Power supply failure will cause major social loss. Therefore, power supply systems have been required to be highly reliable. This research deals with a significant and effective method to decide the investment in a power system damage of the power supply on the society. In CMD2007 Korea, we proposed mean-variance approach to replacing unreliable units in a power system. This paper extends the method so as to solve a problem efficiently. In this research, we will propose the structural learning of a mutual connective neural network. The proposed method enables us to solve the problem defined in terms of mixed integer quadratic programming. In this research, an analysis is performed by using the concepts of the reliability and risks of units evaluated using a variance-covariance matrix and also the effect and expenses of replacement are measured. Mean-variance analysis is formulated as a mathematical programming with two objectives to minimize the risk and maximize the expected return. Finally, we employ a Boltzmann machine to solve the meanvariance analysis efficiently. The result of our method is exemplified using a power network system in Tokyo Metropolitan. By using this method, a more effective selection of results is obtained. In other words, the decision makers can select the expected investment rate and risk of each ward depending on the given total budget. For this reason, the effectiveness of the decision making process can be enhanced.

In novel market-oriented resource sharing models, resource consumers pay for the resource usage and expect that non-functional requirements for the application execution, termed as quality of service (QoS), are satisfied. QoS is negotiated between two parties following the specific negotiation protocols and is recorded using service level agreements (SLAs). However, most of the existing work assumes that the communication partners know about the SLA negotiation protocols and about the SLA templates before entering the negotiation. However, this is a contradictory assumption, if we consider computational grids and novel, commercially oriented computing clouds where consumers and providers meet each other dynamically. In this paper, we present novel meta-negotiation and SLA-mapping solutions for grid workflows bridging the gap between current QoS models and grid workflows, one of the most successful grid programming paradigms. We illustrate the open research issues with a real world case study. Thereafter, we present document models for the specification of meta-negotiations and SLA-mappings. We discuss the architecture for the management of meta-negotiations and SLA-mappings as well as integration of the architecture into a grid workflow management framework.
