The problem of community detection with two equal-sized communities is closely related to the minimum graph bisection problem over certain random graph models. In the stochastic block model distribution over networks with community structure, a well-known semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxation of the minimum bisection problem recovers the underlying communities whenever possible. Motivated by their superior scalability, we study the theoretical performance of linear programming (LP) relaxations of the minimum bisection problem for the same random models. We show that, unlike the SDP relaxation that undergoes a phase transition in the logarithmic average degree regime, the LP relaxation fails in recovering the planted bisection with high probability in this regime. We show that the LP relaxation instead exhibits a transition from recovery to non-recovery in the linear average degree regime. Finally, we present non-recovery conditions for graphs with average degree strictly between linear and logarithmic. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

By integrating both energy harvesting and backscatter communication technologies, so-called `battery-free tag' emerges as a promising solution to the energy related issues in IoT. However, such tags present new challenges due to the unstable energy supply and excitation signals, which are critical to realize successful backscatter communications. In this paper, we present a novel system, denoted as ecUWB, which enables robust communication for battery-free tags where unstable WiFi signals act as the unified source for both energy supply and excitation signals. At tag side, we propose a charging-transmission division scheme to achieve better signal utilization, and introduce a re-transmission mechanism for possible excitation signal interruption. At receiver side, we implement a simply method which is based on DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) to predict the uncontrollable signals, and propose an energy-centric tag scheduling method according to the tag energy estimation results. Extensive experiments are carried out on customized tags and NI USRP platform. The results show that ecUWB outperforms the existing ones in terms of performance and efficiency under the unstable WiFi signals.

Advancements in collaborative technologies have increased the accessibility of human-robot interaction (HRI), yet a gap remains in understanding how HRI affects human systems. This work investigates how HRI influences human visual processing, specifically through the near-hand effect, a phenomenon where the proximity of one’s hand enhances spatial attention. Research has shown that this attentional priority can extend to another person’s hand during collaborative tasks, integrating it into an individual’s body schema. A critical question arises: can a robot’s anthropomorphic hand similarly bias human attentional priority? Our findings revealed that collaborative HRI facilitates target detection near the robot’s hand, an effect absent before the interaction. Additionally, we examined social and kinematic metrics that enhance this attentional shift by fostering joint body schema formation. These results highlight that HRI can shape human visual processing and body schema integration, offering insight into the interplay between our perceptual and cognitive systems and robotic collaborators.

—Proximity perception is a technology that has the potential to play an essential role in the future of robotics. It can fulfill the promise of safe, robust, and autonomous systems in industry and everyday life, alongside humans, as well as in remote locations in space and underwater. In this survey paper, we cover the developments of this field from the early days up to the present, with a focus on human-centered robotics. Here, proximity sensors are typically deployed in two scenarios: first, on the exterior of manipulator arms to support safety and interaction functionality, and second, on the inside of grippers or hands to support grasping and exploration. Starting from this observation, we propose a categorization for the approaches found in the literature. To provide a basis for understanding these approaches, we devote effort to present the technologies and different measuring principles that were developed over the years, also providing a summary in form of a table. Then, we show the diversity of applications that have been presented in the literature. Finally, we give an overview of the most important trends that will shape the future of this domain. © 2021, CC BY.

This paper presents a 2.0-2.9 GHz digital ring-based injection-locked clock multiplier (ILCM) in a 65 nm CMOS process. A self-alignment frequency tracking loop (SA-FTL) with background delay calibration is proposed to improve the accuracy of injection timing. Since the frequency mismatch of the free-running oscillator and the target frequency is minimized without delay error, the reference spur is reduced to -55.6 dBc, exhibiting 15.9 dB improvement comparing to the case that the SA-FTL is off. The proposed ILCM achieves 545 fs RMS jitter at 2.5 GHz output frequency with a power consumption of 3.1 mW, achieving the FoM of 240.3 dB.

Wind power curve describes the relationship between wind speed and output power of wind turbine, which may be contaminated due to various unexpected factors. Following the idea of image segmentation in our previous work, in this paper, we propose a novel image-based abnormal data cleaning algorithm aiming to provide high quality data for wind power curve modeling and relevant applications. For image binarization, a multiscale space is built to determine the optimal scale at which the most stable as well as informative shape representations are extracted. The Active Shape Model is utilized to model the power curve shape and generate a set of segmentation candidates for filtering abnormal data. To measure the cost of each candidate, the Class Uncertainty map based on dual feature images is built. And eventually the optimal segmentation boundary is determined by the optimization in the energy space. A series of comparative experiments conducted over the real-world datasets of 37 wind turbines have validated the superior performance of the proposed algorithm. © 2022, The Authors. The power grid with large proportion of hydropower may engage the ultra-low frequency oscillation (ULFO),which threatening the operation of *** the NY Power Grid system,whose dimension is over thousands,this paper reveals the cause of ULFO with the phase portrait method,i.e.,lies in the saturation of the different limits of the governor system of the generators,in other words,the occurrence of limit cycle is due to the non-smooth *** furthermore,it proposes two methods to suppress ULFO with the philosophy of destroying the condition of non-smooth *** detail,first,the phenomenon of ULFO in NY Power Grid,the damping characteristics and the limits in the governor system of the hydropower units are ***,based on the non-smooth bifurcation theory,the mathematical basis of the oscillation in the non-smooth system caused by the saturation of limits is *** then,the non-oscillation and oscillation dynamic of the system corresponding to without/with limits in the governor system are ***,it discusses the influence of the saturation of single limit on the characteristics of ULFO with the phase ***,the phase portraits of the ULFO under different faults is analyzed,and it shows that the limiting saturation occurs with a large enough ***,the ULFO is resulting from the negative damping of generation and the saturation of multiple limits under a large enough *** addition,according to the above mechanism,two strategies to suppress the ULFO,i.e.,the governor parameters tuning and the fault strength relief are *** simulation shows the effectiveness of proposed strategies.

An overview of existing urban software mobile applications of the transport and economic direction is given. A model of a functional rationalizer of consumer behavior is being built. The software model of the functional rationalizer of consumer behavior (SM FRCB) was developed for the first time. PMFRCB allows the user to expand the number of his preferred needs (occupations, activities) during the daily cycle through intelligent recommendations. Also, SM FRCB allows you to optimize needs (activities, activities) at the cost and rate of their use. The SM FRCB is made in Python_3 using the libraries matplotlib, collections, numpy, pyplot, mplot3d. The analysis of consumer behavior before and after using the functional rationalizer model is carried out. The graphical results of a structural analysis of the costs of old and new consumer behavior, analysis of consumer behavior within the boundaries of the theory of possibilities and the model of transport behavior of a resident before and after applying the functional rationalizer model are presented. The prospects of further improving the SM FRCB are considered. © 2020 IEEE.

Currently, the frequency and intensity of global drought events are continuously increasing, posing an elevated risk of forest mortality worldwide. Although numerous studies have achieved promising results at the regional scale through methods such as precipitation, atmospheric humidity, and optical satellite vegetation indices, meteorological data alone cannot directly represent forest mortality. Additionally, optical satellite indices face challenges such as data saturation, low temporal resolution, and cloud contamination, limiting the possibility of obtaining sensitive indicators on a large scale. To address this challenge, we consider utilizing Vegetation Optical Depth (VOD) from microwave passive satellites to analyze vegetation moisture conditions, assisting in inferring the area loss of forests during droughts. VOD data closely correlate with forest water content and structure, particularly suitable for monitoring vegetation mortality caused by drought. Furthermore, VOD data exhibits high temporal resolution and strong penetration capability, making it an effective tool for frequent and data-efficient observations. In this context, we firstly propose the ΔVOD (the degree of change in VOD) as a supplementary indicator to enhance the accuracy of global forest drought mortality monitoring and modeling. ΔVOD takes into account the temporal changes in global forest structure and drought resistance. Moreover, a predictive model was constructed to improve the precision of global forest drought mortality maps by incorporating VOD and evaluating the sensitivity of Ku, X, C, and L-band VOD to forest canopy mortality induced by drought. The results indicated that VOD-related indicators contributed more significantly to the mortality prediction model compared to other four vegetation indices and five meteorological indicators. The correlation of ΔVOD with the reference mortality rate was significantly higher than that of RWC, EVI, and CWD. By incorporating ΔVOD into the

Computation Offloading in Beyond 5G Networks: A Distributed Learning Framework and Applications

Facing the trend of merging wireless communications and multi-access edge computing (MEC), this article studies computation offloading in the beyond fifth-generation networks. To address the technical challenges originating from the uncertainties and the sharing of limited resource in an MEC system, we formulate the computation offloading problem as a multi-agent Markov decision process, for which a distributed learning framework is proposed. We present a case study on resource orchestration in computation offloading to showcase the potentials of an online distributed reinforcement learning algorithm developed under the proposed framework. Experimental results demonstrate that our learning algorithm outperforms the benchmark resource orchestration algorithms. Furthermore, we outline the research directions worth in-depth investigation to minimize the time cost, which is one of the main practical issues that prevent the implementation of the proposed distributed learning framework.
