From pathogens and computer viruses to genes and memes, contagion models have found widespread utility across the natural and social sciences. Despite their success and breadth of adoption, the approach and structure of these models remain surprisingly siloed by field. Given the siloed nature of their development and widespread use, one persistent assumption is that a given contagion can be studied in isolation, independently from what else might be spreading in the population. In reality, countless contagions of biological and social nature interact within hosts (interacting with existing beliefs, or the immune system) and across hosts (interacting in the environment, or affecting transmission mechanisms). Additionally, from a modeling perspective, we know that relaxing these assumptions has profound effects on the physics and translational implications of the models. Here, we review mechanisms for interactions in social and biological contagions, as well as the models and frameworks developed to include these interactions in the study of the contagions. We highlight existing problems related to the inference of interactions and to the scalability of mathematical models and identify promising avenues of future inquiries. In doing so, we highlight the need for interdisciplinary efforts under a unified science of contagions and for removing a common dichotomy between social and biological contagions. A novel non-geometrical stochastic model(NGSM)for non-wide sense station ary uncorrelated scattering(non-WSSUS)vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V)channels is *** model is based on a conventional NGSM and employs a more accurate method to reproduce the realistic characteristics of V2V channels,which successfully extends the existing NGSM to include the line-of-sight(LoS)***,the statistical properties of the proposed model in different scenarios,including Doppler power spectral density(PSD),power delay profile(PDP),and the tap correlation coefficient matrix are simulated and compared with those of the existing ***,the simulation results dem onstrate not only the utility of the proposed model,but also the correctness of our theoreti cal derivations.

QM-FOrMS: A portable and cost-effective upper extremity rehabilitation system

Long-term rehabilitation opportunities are critical for millions of individuals with chronic upper limb motor deficits striving to improve their motor performance. While formal rehabilitation is well organized in the acute stages of stroke, there is minimal professional support of rehabilitation across the lifespan. In this paper, we introduce an upper extremity rehabilitation system, the Quality of Movement Feedback-Oriented Measurement system (QM-FOrMS), by integrating cost-effective portable sensors and clinically verified motion quality analysis towards individuals with upper limb motor deficits. Specifically, QM-FOrMS is comprised of an eTextile pressure sensitive mat, named Smart Mat, a sensory can, named Smart Can, and a mobile device. A personalizable and adaptive upper limb rehabilitation program is developed, including both unilateral and bilateral functional activities which can be selected from a list or custom designed to further tailor the program to the individual. © 2019 Elsevier Inc.

Members of industry and academics discussed future mobile-radio standard fifth-generation (5G) technology at the 37th Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) meeting, held 5/7 October 2016 in Kassel, Germany. International industrial representatives and scientists from 15 countries participated in 19 plenary talks, 16 working-group sessions, and two comprehensive tutorials on key 5G technologies. The experts discussed the current status, market potentials, and technical standards of 5G technology. The program included talks on connected vehicles, mobile health services, next-generation Ethernet-based fronthaul/xhaul, the Internet of Things (IoT), and an outlook beyond 5G. Working-group sessions addressed user needs and requirements, services and devices of 5G technology, new directions in communication architectures, and technologies, including high-frequency technologies. Highlights included the talks. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Generic instruction based testing methods do not always give good fault coverage for the complex units like Forwarding unit. Hence it becomes important to carefully craft the test which are best for different parts of these units. In this paper we have identified two different test generation methods for different sections of the forwarding unit, namely muxes and comparators which offers better coverage independently: template based test instruction generation and test instruction generation from constrained test vectors. A wrapper designed using the functional constraints of the forwarding unit, is used for test generation. Both methods combined delivers fault coverage of 97.33%. A detailed analysis of the non-detected faults revealed the fact that they cannot be tested using the instruction set of the processor (MIPS 5-stage pipelined processor). This proves that the proposed method achieved 100% functional coverage for stuck-at faults in the forwarding unit. © 2017 IEEE.

China has implemented retrofitting measures in coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) to reduce air pollution through small unit shutdown (SUS), the installation of air pollution control devices (APCDs) and power generation efficiency (PGE) improvement. The reductions in highly toxic Hg emissions and their related health impacts by these measures have not been well studied. To refine mitigation options, we evaluated the health benefits of reduced Hg emissions via retrofitting measures during China's 12th Five-Year Plan by combining plant-level Hg emission inventories with the China Hg Risk Source-Tracking Model. We found that the measures reduced Hg emissions by 23.5 tons (approximately 1/5 of that from CFPPs in 2010), preventing 0.0021 points of per-foetus intelligence quotient (IQ) decrements and 114 deaths from fatal heart attacks. These benefits were dominated by CFPP shutdowns and APCD installations. Provincial health benefits were largely attributable to Hg reductions in other regions. We also demonstrated the necessity of considering human health impacts, rather than just Hg emission reductions, in selecting Hg control devices. This study also suggests that Hg control strategies should consider various factors, such as CFPP locations, population densities and trade-offs between reductions of total Hg (THg) and Hg2+. Prior to the deep learning era, shape was commonly used to describe the objects. Nowadays, state-of-the-art (SOTA) algorithms in medical imaging are predominantly diverging from computer vision, where voxel grids, meshes, point clouds, and implicit surface models are used. This is seen from numerous shape-related publications in premier vision conferences as well as the growing popularity of ShapeNet (about 51,300 models) and Princeton ModelNet (127,915 models). For the medical domain, we present a large collection of anatomical shapes (e.g., bones, organs, vessels) and 3D models of surgical instrument, called MedShapeNet, created to facilitate the translation of data-driven vision algorithms to medical applications and to adapt SOTA vision algorithms to medical problems. As a unique feature, we directly model the majority of shapes on the imaging data of real patients. As of today, MedShapeNet includes 23 datasets with more than 100,000 shapes that are paired with annotations (ground truth). Our data is freely accessible via a web interface and a Python application programming interface (API) and can be used for discriminative, reconstructive, and variational benchmarks as well as various applications in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, and 3D printing. Exemplary, we present use cases in the fields of classification of brain tumors, skull reconstructions, multi-class anatomy completion, education, and 3D printing. The main objectives of the project 'Digital engineering school' are formulated and disclosed, the approach to teaching programming in high-level languages using microcontrollers and microprocessor technology is highlighted, practical recommendations are given for its implementation in the structure of school education for both students and teachers.
