In agricultural water research, the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has emerged as a pivotal approach for large-scale data collection. Water availability in the context of water quality is very important, both for domestic and industrial purposes. For domestic purposes, drinking water and bathing water are separated. Meanwhile, for the palm oil industry, boiler filler is differentiated from additional process water (dilution water). Water quality parameters can be assessed from turbidity and Total Dissolve Solid (TDS). Measurements using measuring instruments separately and repeatedly require significant energy, time, and costs. This research was conducted with the primary objective of presenting a novel method for categorizing water quality with the approach of IoT sensor technology. The research methodology entailed the utilization of an integrated IoT water sensors system in conjunction with manual water categorization. The methods consist of (1) system design, (2) design and installation of sensor and IoT-based microcontrollers, and (3) accuracy and precision testing compared with laboratory measurements. The precision of the integrated IoT water sensors was assessed through a dedicated sensor precision test, resulting in an accuracy rate of 94.4% for the turbidity sensor and 97.5% for the TDS sensor. Notably, this approach successfully discriminated drinking water with valid categorization, while other water types, including groundwater, water with tea, and water with coffee, yielded null categorization results. © 2023 IEEE.

The aviation industry faces increasing pressure to transition to environmentally friendly propulsion systems, with hydrogen emerging as a promising solution for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This study presents a comprehensive analytical framework integrating thermal, structural, fatigue, and impact analyses to evaluate liquid hydrogen storage tanks for UAV applications, addressing the complex challenges in maintaining both thermal performance and structural integrity under demanding operational conditions. Experimental material characterization at cryogenic temperatures was conducted using a 100 kN tensile-fatigue testing system to obtain temperature-dependent properties of SUS316L and Al6061-T6. These properties were incorporated into comprehensive finite element analyses encompassing thermal, structural, fatigue, and drop impact assessments. Thermal analysis validated with experimental testing demonstrated that vapor-cooled shield (VCS) implementation effectively reduced boil-off rate (BOR) by approximately 15 % in small-capacity storage tank. Structural analysis identified critical stress concentration regions under UAV-specific operational loading conditions, demonstrating how this evaluation approach can guide design optimizations to address potential structural vulnerabilities during flight operations. Fatigue analysis confirmed infinite life expectancy exceeding ISO 21029-1 requirements, while drop impact analysis using an ABAQUS user subroutine VUSDFLD - based element deletion approach identified vulnerable components requiring design optimization. This integrated analytical framework establishes new standards for comprehensive safety assessment of liquid hydrogen storage systems in UAV applications, while highlighting the critical balance between thermal isolation requirements and structural integrity demands during flight operations.

Construction progress monitoring plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and efficient completion of infrastructure projects within smart cities. This paper proposes a novel approach utilizing the Deep AlexNet architecture for construction progress assessment in smart cities. The Deep AlexNet model is trained on a diverse dataset of images captured from construction sites, enabling it to accurately analyze the visual cues indicative of construction advancement. By leveraging deep learning techniques, our system extracts and processes features from images, enabling automated and real-time progress evaluation. The proposed method contributes to enhancing construction management practices by providing stakeholders with a reliable tool to monitor and manage construction projects efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the Deep AlexNet-based approach in accurately assessing construction progress, thereby facilitating informed decision-making throughout the construction lifecycle. © 2023 IEEE.

Recently, the diffusion-based generative paradigm has achieved impressive general image generation capabilities with text prompts due to its accurate distribution modeling and stable training process. However, generating diverse remote sensing (RS) images that are tremendously different from general images in terms of scale and perspective remains a formidable challenge due to the lack of a comprehensive remote sensing image generation dataset with various modalities, ground sample distances (GSD), and scenes. In this paper, we propose a Multi-modal, MultiGSD, Multi-scene Remote Sensing (MMM-RS) dataset and benchmark for text-to-image generation in diverse remote sensing scenarios. Specifically, we first collect nine publicly available RS datasets and conduct standardization for all samples. To bridge RS images to textual semantic information, we utilize a large-scale pretrained vision-language model to automatically output text prompts and perform hand-crafted rectification, resulting in information-rich text-image pairs (including multi-modal images). In particular, we design some methods to obtain the images with different GSD and various environments (e.g., low-light, foggy) in a single sample. With extensive manual screening and refining annotations, we ultimately obtain a MMM-RS dataset that comprises approximately 2.1 million text-image pairs. Extensive experimental results verify that our proposed MMM-RS dataset allows off-the-shelf diffusion models to generate diverse RS images across various modalities, scenes, weather conditions, and GSD. The COVID-19 pandemic emphasised the need for decision-support tools to assist urban designers in building resilient and smart cities. Therefore, a multi-disciplinary systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guideline to identify papers relevant for selecting appropriate methodologies that can be applied to build decision-support tools for resilient cities. This paper presents a list of 109 key references, selected from 8,737 records found from the searches, and identified major research themes, fundamental design interventions, and computer modelling techniques. We extracted six groups of interventions categorised by different scales of action: from an individual, crowds (social distancing and travel-related interventions), to a building, a neighbourhood/district, and a city. In addition, there are three sorts of computational modelling approaches, i.e., computer simulation, statistical models, and AI algorithms. Most of the studies developed models for predictive purposes, and 28% of the modelling studies built models for descriptive purposes. This work intends to empower urban designers and planners to overcome and get prepared for unpredictable disasters in pursuit of resilient and smart cities, particularly in the post-pandemic world. This review enables them to quickly find relevant papers as well as suitable methodologies and tools for a particular research purpose. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

As the size of datasets and neural network models increases, automatic parallelization methods for models have become a research hotspot in recent years. The existing auto-parallel methods based on machine learning or graph algorithms still have issues with search efficiency and applicability. This paper proposes an automatic parallel method based on a dual-population genetic algorithm, TGA, which transforms model partitioning and placement into an integer linear programming problem and constructs a cost model to evaluate the solution. The solution space is built using the neural network's dataflow graph and device cluster's topology, and the dual-population genetic algorithm is used to search for the optimal model parallel strategy. Experiments with various models show that the proposed method can improve single-step execution time by up to 42% compared to the Baechi method and up to 37.7% compared to the Hierarchical method. © 2023 IEEE.

Choosing the appropriate IoT protocol for a certain application was and still a critical issue for IoT applications, as protocols vary in behavior in different applications and under different network status. IoT application protocols have a recent focus of attention especially those protocols for the low-powered IoT applications and constrained devices. A brief survey of IoT layers and applied protocols for each layer and their applications were presented, besides, a detailed survey of IoT protocols with a presentation of the main researches that have been done to evaluate their performance. As a use case for this comparative study, the MQTT protocol was chosen because of its simplicity and its publish /subscribe model to be evaluated and compared against other application protocols. © 2021 IEEE.

Autonomous vehicles, commonly known as self-driving cars, are rapidly gaining popularity due to their numerous advantages, such as reducing traffic, pollution, and emissions while increasing safety, convenience, and transportation connectivity. In order to accurately track the motion signal, these vehicles are now utilising advanced control techniques, such as model predictive control (MPC). However, the efficiency of MPCs heavily relies on properly tuning their weights. The primary function of the MPC is to recalculate the optimal values for the vehicle control commands, such as desired speed, steering angle, etc., while considering the dynamic model of the autonomous vehicle. The existing linear MPC models cannot reach higher efficiency because of using fixed weights without considering the error. This paper introduces a novel approach for developing an MPC model with a time-varying weights algorithm for autonomous vehicles. The study aims to minimise motion tracking errors such as lateral position and yaw angle errors. Relevant MPC weights are calculated online using fuzzy logic-based units considering the lateral position and yaw angle errors. The proposed linear time-varying MPC was designed and developed using MATLAB software, resulting in improved motion tracking performance with 31.62% and 20.89% reduction of the root means square error of lateral position and yaw angle. © 2023 IEEE.
