The Web offers autonomous and frequently useful resources in growing manner. User Generated Content (UGC) like Wikis, Weblogs or Webfeeds often do not have one responsible authorship or declared experts who checked the created content for e.g. accuracy, availability, objectivity or reputation. The user is not able easily, to control the quality of the content he receives. If we want to utilize the distributed information flood as a linked knowledge base for higher-layered applications - e.g. for knowledge transfer and learning - information quality (iq) is a very important and complex aspect to analyze, personalize and annotate resources. In general, low information quality is one of the main discriminators of data sources on the Web [1]. Assessing information quality with measurable terms can offer a personalized and smart view on a broad, global knowledge base. We developed the qKAI application framework [2] to utilize available, distributed data sets in a practically manner. In the following we present our adaption of information quality aspects to qualify Web resources based on a three-level assessment model. We deploy knowledge-related iq-criteria as tool to implement iq-mechanisms stepwise into the qKAI framework. Here, we exemplify selected criteria of information quality in qKAI like relevance or accuracy. We derived assessment methods for certain iq-criteria enabling rich, game-based user interaction and semantic resource annotation. Open Content is embedded into knowledge games to increase the users' access and learning motivation. As side effect the resources' quality is enhanced stepwise by ongoing user interaction.

The MADNESS project aims at the definition of innovative system-level design methodologies for embedded MP-SoCs, extending the classic concept of design space exploration in multi-application domains to cope with high heterogeneity, technology scaling and system reliability. The main goal of the project is to provide a framework able to guide designers and researchers to the optimal composition of embedded MPSoC architectures, according to the requirements and the features of a given target application field. The proposed approach will tackle the new challenges, related to both architecture and design methodologies, arising with the technology scaling, the system reliability and the ever-growing computational needs of modern applications. The methodologies proposed with this project act at different levels of the design flow, enhancing the state-of-the art with novel features in system-level synthesis, architectural evaluation and prototyping. Support for fault resilience and efficient adaptive runtime management is introduced at hardware and middleware level, and considered by the system-level synthesis as one of the optimization factors to be taken into account. This paper presents the first stable results obtained in the MADNESS project, already demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

A low cost battery charger is introduced in this paper. The charging feature meets the requirement of a Li-Ion rechargeable cell designed for electric vehicles and manufactured by E company. The charger is capable of constant current/constant voltage charging strategy, double over current/voltage protection and automatically offloaded with a sound alarm when the charging current is smaller than about 40mA. A detail circuit diagram and its operation principle are proposed and some experimental results are also given. All devices used in the charger circuit are very common and easily purchased. Because of its simple structure only a few modifications are needed to make one's own specific charger. © 2010 WEVA.

We report on trace gas and major atmospheric constituents results obtained by the Vehicle Cabin Atmosphere Monitor (VCAM) during operations aboard the International Space Station (ISS). VCAM is an autonomous environmental monitor based on a miniature gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer. It was flown to the ISS on shuttle mission STS-131 and commenced operations on 6/10/10. VCAM provides measurements of ppb-to-ppm levels of volatile trace-gas constituents, and of the atmospheric major constituents (nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide) in a space vehicle or station. It is designed to operate autonomously and maintenance-free, approximately once per day, with a self-contained gas supply sufficient for a one-year lifetime. VCAM is designed to detect and identify 90% of the target compounds at their 180-day Spacecraft Maximum Allowable Concentration levels. © 2011 by the American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.

Loosely coupled publish/subscribe messaging systems facilitate optimized deployment of software applications to hardware processors. Intelligent algorithms can be used to refine system deployments to reduce system cost and resource requirements, such as memory and processor utilization. Most line planning models for railway networks assume that the demands for each train type are given in advance from a traffic assignment model such as a 'system split'. A system split is a procedure to distribute passengers' demand over an entire network. This distribution is based on a value assigned to a route which is determined primarily from the total travel time, the number of transfers and the maximum headway (or minimum frequency) of a route. However, such step-wise approaches have a critical shortcoming that the line frequencies assumed in traffic assignments do not coincide with the line frequencies yielded by the line planning model. Such inconsistency results in inaccurate demand and line frequencies. We present a unified line planning model considering stochastic traffic assignment to overcome such inconsistency between line planning and traffic assignment. © 2011 ISSN 1881-803X.

computers can be used more effectively for constructive work instead of just chatting and games. This paper talks about our efforts in introducing computers to junior high school students (eighth grades) as more creative learning tools in a fun way. A visual programming curriculum utilizing an autonomous robot was developed. Both the course design and the teaching materials are discussed in the paper. Moreover, the before and after difference in taking the course is shown by conducting survey and data analysis on them. The results show that after taking the course, most junior high school students were able to experience the broad view of usage of computer other than just thinking of computer as tools for recreational activities such as gaming and chatting.

Matchmaking is the basis of service discovery and composition. Using ontology semantically express the capabilities of services, accurately match, discovery and composition service. Domain ontologies and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) aim at modeling concepts, the role of FCA in ontology engineering is supporting the critical task of reusing independently developed domain ontologies. Evaluating concept similarity identifies the different concepts that are semantically close. In this paper, using concept and attribute of Web services to construct the ontology. Also, an ontology-based method for assessing similarity between FCA concepts is proposed. Such a method is intended to support the ontology engineer in difficult activities such as ontology merging and ontology mapping in the development of the Semantic Web. © 2010 IEEE.

The project of E-Simulator is under way at Hyogo Earthquake engineering Research Center (E-Defense), which belongs to National Research institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED), Japan. E-Defense facilitates the world's largest shaking table. The E-Simulator uses the parallel EF-analysis software package called ADVENTURECluster (ADVC) as a platform, and we carried out elastoplastic seismic response analysis of high-rise building frame with over 70-million DOFs. In this study, we report the results of high-precision FE-analysis for simulation of dynamic collapse behavior of the 4-story steel building frame. The whole frame is discretized into hexahedral elements with linear interpolation functions. In order to improve the accuracy of collapse simulation, a new piecewise linear combined isotropic and kinematic hardening rule is implemented for steel material, and its parameters are identified from the uniaxial material test result. The stud bolts are precisely modeled using multipoint constraints and nonlinear springs. The wire-meshes in the concrete slab are modeled using hexahedral elements. The damping due to plastic energy dissipation of exterior walls is modeled by shear springs between the floors. The accuracy of the model is verified in comparison to the physical test of steel-concrete composite beam subjected to static deformation. It will be shown that elastoplastic dynamic responses of the 4-story frame can be estimated with good accuracy using a high-precision FE-analysis without resort to macro-models such as plastic hinge and composite beam effect.

In this article we present an approach for robust multi-object tracking. Typically the task of object tracking can be divided into two subtasks: object detection and object labeling. The main focus of the work presented here is on an approach for consistently labeling objects across a series of video frames using neural networks. Due to the specialization of object detection algortihms it is necessary to divide detection and labeling to enhance their individual skills. In the evaluation we show that the developed labeling is robust against occlusions and can handle low object detection rates.
