During the direct touch of the inverter output voltage, the nonsinusoidal ground currents with a basic harmonic frequency between 1.5 kHz and 16 kHz, flow via a human’s body. Here was proved that Residual Current Device (RCD) type AC/I∆n = 30 mA does not switch off the power supply when a ground current with a value of about some hundred milliamps occurs. Because RCDs do not disconnect the power supply, the touch on the inverter’s voltage is dangerous to the health and life. For the authors, RCD usage in Voltage Frequency Converters is not a good engineer practice. Accelerating Electric Vehicle Uptake: Modelling Public Policy Options on Prices and Infrastructure

Transitioning to passenger battery electric vehicles (BEV) can mitigate climate change impacts of road transportation. We develop a novel BEV policy model, nesting it within a national-scale macroeconomic system dynamics model ( iSDG-Australia ) to simulate a suite of policy pathways, underpinned by combinations of price incentive and infrastructure support. Subsidising vehicle purchase price brings forward the price-parity tipping point, rapidly accelerating BEVs’ share of new car sales. However, ongoing complementary charging infrastructure investment is critical to reach 100% new BEV car sales by 2050 in Australia. Despite rapid transition, the fleet we modelled would not achieve net-zero by 2050 due to vehicle longevity;and suddenly ceasing financial incentives could retard BEV sales by a decade. Results suggest emissions reductions are maximised by the fastest transition of the passenger vehicle fleet to BEVs, entailing government policy support for adequate infrastructure deployment and financial incentives to achieve earlier BEV price-parity with fossil-fuelled vehicles. © 2021, The Authors. Cell development from an undifferentiated stem cell to a differentiated one is essential in forming an organism. In this paper, various bifurcations of a stem cell during this process are studied using a model based on Furusawa and Kaneko’s hypothesis. Furusawa and Kaneko’s hypothesis tells that the gene expression of stem cells is chaotic. By developing to a differentiated cell, the gene expression in more order, which is the cause of losing pluripotency. In this model, the chaotic dynamics of gene expression in the stem cells become ordered during the developments. Various patterns and bifurcation points can be seen during development. The bifurcation points and their predictions during the process of cell development are studied in this paper. Some well-known critical slowing down indicators are used to show the variations of slowness during the cell’s development and predict the bifurcation points. It is vital since the unexpected changes of the state can cause a disaster. All of the indicators have a proper trend by approaching the bifurcation points and faring away.

Unveiling the multifaceted concept of cognitive security: Trends, perspectives, and future challenges

As a transversal concept tied to human evolution, security has increased its relevance at the same pace as development and digitisation. With the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and the sophistication of advanced persistent threats, the emerging paradigm of cognitive security (i.e., defined by some authors as the use of self-aware and adaptable AI with learning capabilities to detect and mitigate security threats) gains momentum. Nevertheless, cognitive security is a complex concept that requires a more granular description. In this article, we redefine cognitive security by first analysing the state of the art to derive the current state of practice and the definitions of cognitive security. Next, we expand the concept of cognitive security by analysing its multiple pillars, including learning theories, AI technologies, human-computer interactions, and the ethical and legal aspects impacting its development and implementation. The latter is crucial towards understanding cognitive security, providing insight into its potential and prerequisites towards its realisation while emphasising its multidisciplinary nature. In addition to such a description, we analyse the current challenges in three closely interconnected fields, namely cybersecurity, digital forensics, and digital investigations, to provide a taxonomy that can be used to assess the current challenges and limitations of cognitive security and understand its potential better. Finally, we propose future research directions, aiming to develop cognitive systems capable of continuous learning, adaptation, and ethical compliance in dynamic cybersecurity environments. Our findings highlight the role of cognitive computing systems in enhancing cybersecurity, discussing the integration of human cognition and AI for proactive and resilient security solutions.

Carbon and nitrogen are central elements in global biogeochemical cycles. To effectively manage carbon and nitrogen in China, we developed a comprehensive model for quantifying their fluxes, investigating their interplay across 16 human and natural subsystems. Between 1980 and 2020, nitrogen losses in China increased 2.3-fold and carbon emissions surged 6.5-fold. Integrated carbon and nitrogen management holds the potential for a 74% reduction in nitrogen losses to air and water and a 91% decrease in carbon emissions to the atmosphere by 2060. Compared with separate control of carbon or nitrogen, integrated management delivers an additional reduction of 1.8 million tons of nitrogen and 26.5 million tons of carbon by 2060, bringing out a 37% decrease in unit abatement cost and a net societal benefit of 1384 billion USD.

Self-Adjusting Network Slicing for Dynamic Heterogeneous Task Offloading in UAV-Enabled Mobile Edge Computing

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled mobile edge computing (MEC) has received wide attention for its ability to significantly reduce latency with flexible mobile aerial nodes. However, the existing works merely consider a fixed periodic network slicing and usually neglect the characterization of computing tasks in practical applications. Motivated by this, we envision a novel scenario where the dynamics and heterogeneity of users and tasks are considered in UAV-enabled MEC networks. We propose a novel self-adjusting two-timescale network slicing scheme based on the internal mechanism in deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to automatically determine whether and when network slicing needs to be reconstructed. Such a novel scheme balances reconstruction cost and system performance compared with traditional fixed schemes. We build an optimization to minimize total system cost for joint UAV trajectory planning and resource allocation at both network and user slice levels. To tackle this problem, we design a novel self-adjusting two-timescale proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm that utilizes the property of the critic network, referred to as SaTPPO. Experiment results manifest the effectiveness of the proposed SaTPPO, and it has a lower system cost than the traditional fixed schemes. Moreover, the proposed SaTPPO outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines concerning effectiveness and efficiency. © 2015 IEEE.

The desiccation (extreme drying) of rivers has important implications for the broader Earth System. However, the desiccation history and its linkage to climate are rarely known for numerous major river systems, primarily due to difficulties in recognizing desiccation events from available stratigraphic records. Here, using a combination of geochemical techniques (major and rare-earth element geochemistry, detrital zircon geochronology, and optically stimulated luminescence dating), we demonstrate that the Yellow River, which maintains the highest sediment load on Earth, became desiccated during the Last Glacial Maximum at approximately 20 thousand years ago. This finding implies that transportation of sediments and dissolved constituents to the oceans via the Yellow River may have decreased substantially or ceased during glacials, which would have ramifications for ocean chemistry and biology. Furthermore, our work highlights the importance of desiccated riverbed sediments as potential dust sources during glacial periods, a finding that is different from what is observed today. © 2023. With the ever increase in the demand of building secure systems, recent years are witnessing a plethora of research on information flow control (IFC) techniques in programming languages to enforce a finer-grained restriction on the propagation of information among untrusted objects. In this paper, we introduce a dynamic labelling (DL) algorithm (This paper is an extended version of the article [1] presented in SECRYPT’18.) for security certification of imperative programming languages that follows a combination of mutable and immutable labelling referred to as hybrid labelling approach. First, we study the possible methods of binding security labels with the subjects and objects of the program which include program counter that represent implicit flow within a program and compare the precision achieved by the applications of methods on benchmark programs. Next, we describe our labelling algorithm that generates labels for intermediate subjects/objects of a program from the given set of initial labels (some of which could be immutable throughout the computation) adhering to the constraints defined in [2] for a program to be information-flow secure. Apart from the usual control statements found in the imperative languages, we also present the labelling approach for a procedure call highlighting subtleties of different parameter passing mechanisms adopted in modern languages. Further, we discuss a variant of the algorithm for concurrent programs. It is shown that our algorithm always terminates after a finite number of iterations, also establish the soundness concerning non-interference as given by [3]. We compare the labelling precision realizable by our approach with the existing approaches in the literature. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

The momentum transfer of the injected ballistic electrons could lead to an effective Coulomb drag of the quasi-equilibrium electrons in the n-region and the plasma instability in the GFETs and GLDs. The instability enables the generation of terahertz radiation. The obtained results can be used for the optimization of the structures under consideration for different devices, in particular, terahertz emitters. © 2021, CC BY.
