Enterprises today have to navigate a rapidly evolving landscape driven by technological advancements, intensifying global competition, and shifting market dynamics. To remain competitive, organizations must adopt agile and digital solutions that enhance operational efficiency, optimize processes, and accelerate time-to-market. This research introduces a comprehensive methodology designed to evaluate enterprise performance across a variety of scenarios, with a specific focus on product development processes. The proposed methodology rests on three pillars: modeling, simulation, and their integration. Leveraging Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), the methodology provides a structured approach to model organizational elements such as processes, resources (tools, personnel), and goals, establishing a cohesive enterprise architecture. A holistic agent based simulation facilitates a granular analysis of the enterprise operations. The simulation captures dynamic interactions and emergent behaviors, enabling quantitative evaluations of the individual impacts of digital tools, processes and human resources on organizational outcomes. The seamless integration between the modeling and simulation environments is ensured through the use of a centralized Authoritative Source of Truth (ASOT), maintaining consistency and traceability. This end-to-end approach enables scenario-based assessments and quantitative evaluations of alternative configurations, addressing the limitations of traditional EA frameworks by capturing dynamic interactions and emergent behaviors. This methodology therefore lays the groundwork for the further development of Digital Twins of Organizations (DTOs), one that facilitates strategic decision-making and optimization in complex enterprise environments. © 2025, American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. In the pursuit of sustainable electricity generation from offshore wind and wave energy, the combination of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs) and Oscillating Water Columns (OWCs) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance the working lifespan of this kind of systems. This study introduces a control-focused modeling approach, using empirical data collected from the widely accepted FAST environment, to implement advanced control laws for these integrated platforms. Leveraging Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), the research yields predictive models that effectively capture the platform pitch dynamics so as to optimize control strategies. By integrating advanced machine learning techniques, these approaches address the challenges of modeling floating offshore structures in dynamic environments. In this sense, the neuro-estimators developed in this study closely match the original plant results, offering researchers a straightforward way to implement complex control schemes that could hardly be implemented over the original non-linear system. © 2025 The Author(s).

Multi-Focus Image Fusion: A Systematic Literature Review

Multi-Focus Image Fusion (MFIF) was designed to solve the issue of the limited depth of field inherent in the optical lens of imaging systems. In addition, MFIF extracts all the relevant information from the source image. In this study, we present a systematic review of the current literature to identify and discuss the main requirements and features of MFIF. A systematic literature review was conducted using The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology and 550 articles were extracted from the Springer, Science Direct, and IEEE databases. Based on the extracted data, 74 studies were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings are presented in four subsections that discuss the most frequently employed fusion methods, activity level measurements, publicly available image datasets, and evaluation indicators used to judge the quality aspect of a fused image in MFIF. According to the results, deep learning methods are preferred as fusion methods, while spatial frequency is the most popular technique for measuring activity levels. Most studies include image feature-based evaluation indicators in addition to the Lytro dataset as input to test the efficacy of the fusion method. There is growing interest in MFIF, but limited literature is available on boundary region fusion methods and novel activity level measurements. A Web-Based Interface that Leverages Machine Learning to Assess an Individual’s Vulnerability to Brain Stroke

Cerebral stroke is a major global health issue, contributing to high mortality and long-term disability. Early identification of individuals at high risk of stroke can significantly improve preventive care outcomes. We present a web-based stroke risk assessment tool that uniquely combines an accessible user interface with robust machine learning modeling. The proposed platform leverages a novel combination of SMOTE oversampling and logistic regression to address class imbalance in patient health records, improving the detection of stroke risk factors over existing methods. We compare a range of algorithms – including traditional classifiers and deep learning models – and report comprehensive performance metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and AUC-ROC) for each. Our best model (logistic regression with SMOTE and standard scaling) achieves 93.2% accuracy with a substantially higher F1-score for the stroke-positive class than other models, indicating improved sensitivity to stroke cases. To bridge the gap between complex predictive models and end-users, we deploy this model in an intuitive web interface (built with Streamlit) that non-technical individuals and healthcare providers can easily use. This interface requires no specialized knowledge, preserves user privacy by avoiding any data storage, and provides clear explanations of results. By offering a practical and transparent tool for stroke risk screening, our work advances health informatics with an emphasis on accessibility, interpretability, and early intervention. Potential applications range from personal health self-assessment to integration in clinical workflows for preventive care, ultimately aiming to improve public health outcomes through early detection and intervention in stroke. © 2013 IEEE.

Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) involve attackers maintaining a long-term presence on victim systems, leading to the stealthy exfiltration of sensitive data during network transfers. Despite existing methods to detect and halt APT data exfiltration, these attacks continue to pose significant threats to sensitive information and result in substantial commercial losses. Current approaches primarily focus on preemptive measures, which are insufficient once early-stage detection fails due to a lack of continuous monitoring. We propose an effective and efficient network monitoring method to address this gap and detect APT exfiltration during data transfer. Our approach assumes the presence of an undetected APT attacker within the victim system. We examine data exfiltration across three exfiltration traffic environments: exfiltration over command control channels, exfiltration over transfer size limitations, and their combinations. We introduce two detection metrics: Package Transfer Rate and Byte Transfer Rate. Utilizing these metrics, we measure network traffic, categorize APT attack environments, and train deep neural network models, named EDXGB, using ensembled decision trees to predict APT exfiltration. Our method is validated on two public datasets and compared against six baseline methods. Additionally, we simulate real-world exfiltration scenarios by creating three exfiltration traffic environments for each dataset. The results demonstrate that our method effectively detects APT exfiltration across various network environments, enhancing data protection and secure transfer. The objective of physics-based differentiable rendering (PBDR) is to propagate gradients between scene parameters and the intensities of image pixels in a manner that is physically correct. The gradients obtained can be applied in optimization algorithms for the reconstruction of 3D geometry or materials, or they can be further propagated into neural network to learn neural representations of the scene. However, applying automatic differentiation techniques directly to the primary rendering process will result in biased gradients, as the rendering integral contains moving high-dimensional discontinuities. Based on how these discontinuities are managed-either implicitly or explicitly-existing PBDR methods can be categorized into two groups: reparameterization methods and boundary sampling methods. Boundary sampling methods need to construct paths that have one segment tangent to the geometry being differentiated in order to estimate a boundary integral to address the discontinuities explicitly. Such paths are usually constructed by sampling the tangent segment first and then extending it to complete the paths for subsequent processing. Fortunately, the number of dimensions in the space composed of such tangent segments is only three. In scenes comprised solely of triangle meshes, the first dimension is used to parameterize all the edges on the mesh, which determines a point on the tangent segment. The remaining two dimensions are used to parameterize the direction of the tangent segment. However, state-of-the-art boundary sampling methods parameterize the first dimension uniformly, which is inefficient because only a small portion of the edges contributes to the boundary integral, resulting in wasted parameter space. In this paper, we parameterize the first dimension by considering both edge length and contributions, thereby allocating more parameter space to important edges. In the last few decades, metaheuristic algorithms that use the laws of nature have been used dramatically in numerous and complex optimization problems. The artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA) is one of the metaheuristic algorithms that was invented in 2022 based on the foraging and migration behavior of the hummingbird for modeling and solving optimization problems. The algorithm initially starts with an initial random population of solutions. It then uses iterative processes and hummingbird position updates to balance exploration and exploitation toward the most optimal solutions. This paper has a detailed and extensive review of the AHA algorithm considering the aspects of hybrid, improved, binary, multi-objective, and optimization problems. In addition, a wide range of applications of AHA in various fields such as feature selection, image processing, scheduling, Internet of Things, classification, clustering, financial and economic issues, forecasting, wireless sensor networks, and many engineering challenges are explored. The statistical and numerical results showed that the AHA algorithm with deep learning methods, Levy flight, and opposition-based learning had the best performance. Accurate solutions are needed for a variety of computer vision applications, including medical imaging, object detection, and recognition. Such complicated challenges are beyond the capabilities of artificial intelligence and machine learning, which mainly rely on data and algorithms to learn. The path to Deep Learning (DL) is thus paved. Even though deep learning is incredibly effective at solving complex problems, it is invariant, meaning that it ignores the spatial relationship between the features and instead searches for features only. This can cause the model’s performance to suffer. Additionally, because the model is invariant, gathering a large volume of training data is a difficult undertaking. To address this, the Capsule Network (CapsNet), whose performance outperforms Deep Learning techniques, was introduced. Despite its success, applications of CapsNet and working remain a mystery. Thus, the performance of CapsNet across many applications and obstacles is examined in this study together with the predecessors of CapsNet. Additionally, this paper explores the use of Capsule Networks with an attention mechanism (CapsNet-ATM) for predicting potato leaf diseases. The performance of CapsNet-ATM in this crucial agricultural application is thoroughly assessed and contrasted with the well-known models VGG-16 and VGG-19, providing insight into the system’s efficacy and promise as a reliable tool for the detection and prediction of potato leaf disease. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This study proposes a hybrid deep learning approach to address the complexity and dynamic characteristics of modern network environments. The research integrates Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and Convolutional Long and Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) networks to predict future network traffic and detect cyberattacks. The model was trained and evaluated on the CICIDS 2018 dataset which includes various types of normal and malicious traffic. Grid-based representations were created from the dataset. The attack type of each timestamp were visualized using distinct colors to the grid images. These images are sued as input of ConvLSTM model. Protocol and destination port are modeled as nodes in a graph, with volume of data flow represented as weighted edges. This graph-based representation is designed to capture unique traffic patterns of specific services and enhance the analysis of spatial and temporal features. Experimental results show a 13% increase in macro F1 score and a 4% increase in weighted F1 score, highlighting the effectiveness of the proposed method. This research highlights its potential to enable proactive responses through the prediction of potential cyberattack occurrences. © 2025 IEEE.
