Deep neural networks (DNNs) have made significant strides in tackling challenging tasks in wireless systems, especially when an accurate wireless model is not available. However, when available data is limited, traditional DNNs often yield subpar results due to underfitting. At the same time, large language models (LLMs) exemplified by GPT-3, have remarkably showcased their capabilities across a broad range of natural language processing *** whether and how LLMs can benefit challenging non-language tasks in wireless systems is *** this work, we propose to leverage the in-context learning ability (a.k.a. prompting) of LLMs to solve wireless tasks in the low data regime without any training or fine-tuning, unlike DNNs which require training. We further demonstrate that the performance of LLMs varies significantly when employed with different prompt templates. To solve this issue, we employ the latest LLM calibration methods. Our results reveal that using LLMs via ICL methods generally outperforms traditional DNNs on the symbol demodulation task and yields highly confident predictions when coupled with calibration techniques.

Social assistive robots usually encompass a great compromise between the advanced perception models that one can use and their computing capabilities. The ideal approaches are always oriented towards low power consumption while maintaining a higher order of responsiveness to the surroundings. Therefore, we present in this paper, an improvement of the follow-me system on ASTRO. In detail, we propose the use of Mediapipe SDK for human detection and tracking, when ASTRO is meant to accompany someone that is walking. A study on the new velocity and distance profiles that the robot keeps from the individuals is presented and we have also evaluated how it affects their perception of being safe. The presented results show that our new approach allows the system to achieve real-time performance by becoming ≈ 9.1× faster, smoothing, and keeping a more natural distance from the user. © 2023 IEEE.

A novel drive system using Magnetic Multiple Spur Gear (MMSG) and multiple high-speed motors is characterized by small size, lightweight, and high efficiency even at high-speed region, it is expected to apply to in-wheel motor systems. However, there is a risk of contact between the rotors when applied to in-wheel motor system. In this study, a novel axial-gap MMSG is proposed to solve this problem, stabilize the air gap between the high-speed and low-speed rotors, and effectively utilize the magnets, and its performance is evaluated by finite element analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

This research analyses the complex dynamics of Cyber-Physical-Social systems (CPSS), encompassing cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), and social media. By exploring the interactions among these elements, this study analyses the vulnerabilities, risks, and potential benefits within the CPSS framework. This research study analyses the evolving landscape of cybersecurity by considering various aspects such as data integrity, privacy in the IoT era, and the influence of social media on user behaviour and influence dynamics. The study also introduces innovative strategies to enhance CPSS resilience, including methods to mitigate cyber threats and enhance overall system integrity. Additionally, we investigate how social media shapes CPSS behaviours, offering valuable insights into influence dynamics. This research advances the comprehensive understanding of CPSS to support future studies and advancements in the protection and improvement of interconnected systems. © 2024 IEEE.

In the original publication, the author has found few errors in the figures 2, 4, 11 and 12 which significantly impact both the paper's quality and the reputation of the journal. These issues undermine the clarity of the methodology and the novelty of the research. 1. Each column represents a different case in the experiment, corresponding to the number of UAVs in both the obstacle-free and obstacle areas. Simulations are commonly used to develop and evaluate video encryption algorithms. Although these approaches are useful for demonstrating theoretical feasibility and algorithm performance, they neglect practical challenges and real-world communication conditions. This oversight creates a critical gap in evaluating their effectiveness and security in practical applications. In this paper, we describe a novel, to the best of our knowledge, video encryption scheme that employs a modified chaotic Colpitts oscillator, a customized Josephus problem, and ribonucleic acid (RNA) operations, and is implemented in visible light communication (VLC) environment. The modified Colpitts oscillator reveals significant phenomena, the most prominent for this study being chaos. The encryption scheme involves block scrambling and pixel-level permutation employing a customized Josephus problem and a column and row shifting technique. Diffusion is then achieved through a custom Josephus problem-oriented RNA operation combined with basic RNA operations and cipher block chaining (CBC). Based on the results, we found that the customized Josephus problem-based permutation performed more efficiently than traditional methods, whereas the column and row shifting permutation was more robust. By eliminating key sequence coding and item-to-item operations, the proposed RNA operation reduces computational overhead. This video encryption scheme is proven to be effective and resilient at securing video data transmitted over the VLC channel, and it constitutes a significant advancement in areas such as surveillance, medical imaging, and military communication requiring robust secured video data. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Water-harvesting polymer coatings for plant leaves

Climate change-induced water scarcity threatens global plant life and agricultural productivity. Here, we present a novel atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) coating designed to alleviate heat and dry stress potentially. This polymer coating utilizes block copolymers carrying catechol-anchoring groups, specifically poly(dopamine methacrylamide) (PDOMA), to adhere to plant leaves. As a hydrophilic block, either poly((oligoethylene glycol) methacrylate) (POEGMA) or the thermoresponsive block poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) was used, which can adsorb water from the air during cooler periods in its hydrophilic state. As the temperature increases above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PNIPAM, the polymer transitions to a hydrophobic state, releasing the captured water to the leaf surface. We synthesized PNIPAM-b-PDOMA copolymers via RAFT polymerization and confirmed their composition (IR, ¹H NMR and ¹H DOSY NMR spectroscopy) with a cloud point temperature of 33 ± 1 °C. The coatings were applied to model substrates (SiO₂, polyethylene) and corn leaves. Compared to uncoated controls, coated substrates demonstrated a substantial increase in water uptake from humid air, absorbing up to 50 wt% of the coating's weight. The coating's adherence and thermoresponsive behavior were confirmed on corn leaves through contact angle measurements, showing a shift from hydrophilic (29 ± 3°) below the LCST to hydrophobic (80 ± 2°) above the LCST, closer to the native, hydrophobic leaf (110 ± 10°). Crucially, photosynthesis induction experiments revealed that the coating did not negatively impact the plant's natural photosynthetic processes. This study establishes a promising copolymer platform for developing AWH coatings to support plants in the face of increasing drought conditions. © 2025 RSC.

Climate-induced disasters pose significant threats to human lives, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Deep learning techniques, combined with remote sensing, offer powerful tools for predicting, detecting, and mitigating the impacts of such disasters. This study presents a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach using a hybrid cascaded CNN-RNN model to perform spatio-temporal analysis, enhanced image segmentation with U-Net and SegNet architectures, and a hybrid CNN-LSTM-XGBoost ensemble for multi-hazard prediction. The proposed CNN-RNN model achieves an accuracy of 96.78%, significantly outperforming traditional models in predicting flood-prone areas, wildfires, and droughts. Key metrics such as Intersection over Union (IoU), precision, recall, and F1-scores are used to evaluate model performance, highlighting the model’s ability to accurately identify disaster-prone areas and improve disaster resilience. This research not only demonstrates the efficacy of deep learning for climate-induced disaster prediction but also paves the way for future integration of socio-economic data to refine disaster risk assessment. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
