Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) path planning enables UAVs to avoid obstacles and reach the target efficiently. To generate high-quality paths without obstacle collision for UAVs, this paper proposes a novel autonomous path planning algorithm based on a tangent intersection and target guidance strategy (APPATT). Guided by a target, the elliptic tangent graph method is used to generate two sub-paths, one of which is selected based on heuristic rules when confronting an obstacle. The UAV flies along the selected sub-path and repeatedly adjusts its flight path to avoid obstacles through this way until the collision-free path extends to the target. Considering the UAV kinematic constraints, the cubic B-spline curve is employed to smooth the waypoints for obtaining a feasible path. Compared with A*, PRM, RRT and VFH, the experimental results show that APPATT can generate the shortest collision-free path within 0.05 seconds for each instance under static environments. Moreover, compared with VFH and RRTRW, APPATT can generate satisfactory collision-free paths under uncertain environments in a nearly real-time manner. This paper presents electro-thermal design optimization of a high-frequency planar transformer with an integrated thermal management system involving a liquid-cooled chamber for combined core and winding cooling. The designed transformer is for a 10 kW, 600V to 800 V, 1 MHz dual-active-bridge converter, working as the dc-dc stage of high power-density on-board electric vehicle chargers. Effect of design variables like number of turns of the transformer and cooler height on the transformer's electrical parameters such as leakage inductance, ac resistance and parasitic capacitance is estimated. The dependence of converter efficiency on these parameters is estimated using simulations and analyses and potential trade-offs of the design are investigated. Similarly, thermal modeling is used to characterize the thermal performance of different designs, evaluated on the basis of the required coolant temperature to maintain the transformer winding and core at a specified temperature. Based on a combination of the preceding analyses, optimal designs are identified which simultaneously ensure good electrical and thermal performance.

This paper discusses a new teleoperation approach for robotic-assisted tele-echography. A teleoperation architecture in the joint space is presented, taking advantage of kinematic similarity between master and slave manipulators. Haptic force feedback is provided based on the slave control command torque, without using force/torque sensing data. The slave manipulator is controlled in the joint space using computed torque techniques and featuring Kalman Active Observers (AOBs). Experiments in a typical telemedice scenario, assess and validate the teleoperation architecture in a clinical context, with a radiologist performing a robotic-assisted abdominal ultrasound examination on a healthy volunteer.

The direct calculation of the absorption coefficient spectra of various tissues from spectral measurements allowed to retrieve the contents of melanin and lipofuscin. In the rabbit brain cortex, 1.8 times higher melanin content is explained by the neuron degeneration process. Similar melanin and lipofuscin contents were found in the rabbit pancreas as a result of the tissue aging process. The conversion of 83 % of the melanin in the human normal kidney into lipofuscin in the cancer kidney indicates that lipofuscin can be considered a kidney cancer marker in humans.

The prediction and forecasting of faults occurring in photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the important aspect to escalate the reliability, output power generation, proficiency, lifetime and effectiveness of overall system. In this article, the behavior of PV array is studied under various faulty circumstances and new approach has offered for the better performance assessment of PV array. This approach is established on the analysis of peculiarities displayed by voltage power (V-P) and voltage-current (V-I) characteristics curves of PV array under different faulty conditions. The proposed technique can be used to identify and classify the five common faults in PV system. These progressive faults (includes open circuit, line-to-line, partial shading, degradation and bridging faults) have been occurred at the basic components of PV cell and at the connection point between PV modules. The characteristic curves under normal and faulty conditions have been compared by utilizing Matlab/Simulink environment. Hence, the suggested method can be utilized to determine the important fact about the health PV array.

This paper presents a 2.0-2.9 GHz digital ring-based injection-locked clock multiplier (ILCM) in a 65 nm CMOS process. A self-alignment frequency tracking loop (SA-FTL) with background delay calibration is proposed to improve the accuracy of injection timing. Since the frequency mismatch of the free-running oscillator and the target frequency is minimized without delay error, the reference spur is reduced to -55.6 dBc, exhibiting 15.9 dB improvement comparing to the case that the SA-FTL is off. The proposed ILCM achieves 545 fs RMS jitter at 2.5 GHz output frequency with a power consumption of 3.1 mW, achieving the FoM of 240.3 dB.

This paper presents a 6-bit 20 GS/s 2-way time-interleaved (TI) flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in a 28-nm FDSOI CMOS technology. Leveraging threshold voltage control via back-gate bias in FDSOI, an automatic comparator offset calibration scheme is developed, which does not require extra transistor pairs or capacitive loads in signal path, thus avoiding comparator speed degradation. To alleviate channel mismatch-induced errors in highly interleaved structure while maintaining a reasonable power efficiency, the ADC adopts a two-way TI structure with the subADC working at 10 GS/s. To further improve the ADC power efficiency, a 1-bit voltage-domain interpolation is utilized. The proposed flash ADC achieves a SNDR of 31.2 dB at Nyquist frequency with a power consumption of 204 mW, translating into a figure-of-merit (FOM) of 344 fJ/conv.-step.

In recent years, quantitative approaches based on mathematical theories and ICT tools, known under the terms of digital, computational, and virtual archaeology, are more and more involved in the traditional archaeological research. In this paper, we apply shape analysis techniques to 3D digital replicas of archaeological findings to support their interpretation. In particular, our study focuses on a collection of small terracotta figurines from the ancient sanctuary of Ayia Irini, Cyprus, and it aims at re-analysing the material utilising a quantitative approach. We experiment state of the art techniques (meshSIFT and DBSCAN) to cluster statuettes according to the similarity of their heads, to investigate their production process. © 2019 Eurographics Association.

Despite tremendous developments in preoperative imaging that have enabled physicians to identify cancers with remarkable precision, limited options for intraoperative imaging have left many surgeons ill-equipped to locate tumors in the operating room. Near-infrared fluorescence image-guided surgery has offered to use near-infrared fluorescent dyes and near-infrared sensitive cameras to highlight diseased tissue, but state-of-the-art imaging systems have been unable to provide both the single sensor architecture and the high dynamic range required to facilitate precise surgical procedures under operating room illumination. In seeking a solution, we have monolithically integrated an array of forward-biased photodiodes and an array of interference filters to provide a logarithmic photoresponse across four spectral channels. The resulting single-chip snapshot multispectral imaging system provides an instantaneous dynamic range of >120 dB and a maximum signal-to-noise ratio of ∼56 dB across three color channels and one near-infrared channel. Capable of detecting less than 50 nM of the clinically-relevant fluorescent dye indocyanine green, this image sensor offers the high performance required for real-world surgical application.

The diagnosis of many diseases involves invasive detection methods, which are both painful and stressing for patients. In the last decades, the ever-growing development in electronic nose (E-Nose) technology made them great candidates for non-invasive disease detection methods. Such devices mimic the human olfactory system through a set of sensors which produce signals that can be associated with diseases. Recently, a class of low-cost and innovative ionogel sensors, developed by our group demonstrated their full applicability in E-Nose systems, opening a new and promising approach to the field. However, the operation of such sensor needs a background calibration phase which relies on the correct characterization and parameterization of the corresponding electrical sensor *** paper proposes a model characterization methodology based on a set of frequency responses acquisitions of the sensor, under several humidity conditions. To obtain a flexible acquisition tool capable of acquiring accurate results, an analog front-end (AFE) circuit to interface with the interdigitated electrode (IDE) sensors is presented. Such AFE circuit is fully implemented using a programmable system-on-a-chip (PSoC), helping to reduce system size and cost. Lastly, a comparison between the electrical model and data acquired with the proposed system is presented.
