Passive synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an imaging method that uses existing illuminators of opportunity rather than a dedicated transmitter. Passive radar has seen an increase in popularity due to increased stealth, decreased cost, and superior use of the electromagnetic spectrum. In this paper we present an incoherent imaging method for passive SAR that uses phaseless or magnitude only measurements. Unlike conventional methods, our approach only requires a single receiver. The method is based on the observation that the squared modulus of the data can be cast as a linear mapping of a rank-one positive semi-definite operator, formed as the tensor product of scene reflectivity with itself. Thus, we pose imaging as a convex optimization problem which utilizes the mathematical structure of the unknown. Achieving trust-based and privacy-preserving customer selection in ubiquitous computing

The recent proliferation of smart devices has given rise to ubiquitous computing, an emerging computing paradigm which allows anytime & anywhere computing possible. In such a ubiquitous computing environment, customers release different computing or sensing tasks, and people, also known as data processors, participate in these tasks and get paid for providing their idle computing and communication resources. Thus, how to select an appropriate and reliable customer while not disclosing processors' privacy has become an interesting problem. In this article, we present a trust-based and privacy-preserving customer selection scheme in ubiquitous computing, called TPCS, to enable potential processors select the customers with good reputation. The basic concept of TPCS is that each data processor holds a trust value, and the reputation score of the customer is calculated based on processors' trust values and feedbacks via a truth discovery process. To preserve processors' privacy, pseudonyms and Paillier cryptosystem are applied to conceal each processor's real identity. In addition, three authentication protocols are designed to ensure that only the valid data processors (i.e., the processors registering in the system, holding the truthful trust values, and joining the computing tasks) can pass the authentication. A comprehensive security analysis is conducted to prove that our proposed TPCS scheme is secure and can defend against several sophisticated attacks. The impact of information security breaching becomes bigger and complicated to ignore every day. New and more sophisticated attacks are emerging and developed;requiring the information systems and networks be protected in a highly flexible and accurate manner. Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) are considered one of the basic building blocks of the protection wall against these intrusive activities through detecting it before it hits the network systems. Artificial neural networks have been used successfully for addressing the high accuracy and precision demands of intrusion detection systems. In this paper, we built an intelligent intrusion detection system using clustered version of Self-Organized Map (SOM) network. The proposed system consists of two subsequent stages: first, SOM network was built, then a hierarchical agglomerative clustering using k-means was applied on SOM neurons. The proposed work in this research paper addresses the issues of sensitivity and time consumption for each connection record processing. The proposed system was demonstrated using NSL-KDD benchmark dataset, where it has achieved superior sensitivity reached up to 96.66 % in less than 0.08 milliseconds per connection record. © 2018 IEEE.

Intelligent decision-making (IDM) is a cornerstone of artificial intelligence (AI) designed to automate or augment decision processes. Modern IDM paradigms integrate advanced frameworks to enable intelligent agents to make effective and adaptive choices and decompose complex tasks into manageable steps, such as AI agents and high-level reinforcement learning. Recent advances in multimodal foundation-based approaches unify diverse input modalities—such as vision, language, and sensory data—into a cohesive decision-making process. Foundation models (FMs) have become pivotal in science and industry, transforming decision-making and research capabilities. Their large-scale, multimodal data-processing abilities foster adaptability and interdisciplinary breakthroughs across fields such as healthcare, life sciences, and education. This survey examines IDM’s evolution, advanced paradigms with FMs and their transformative impact on decision-making across diverse scientific and industrial domains, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in building efficient, adaptive, and ethical decision systems.

Determination of the mechanical behaviour of lattice structures has become a necessity to successfully implement lightweight concepts in various applications. Due to the large surface to volume ratio of these structures, the computational effort required for the FE simulation of models incorporating lattices is significantly increased mainly because of the large finite elements number which are necessary to accurately describe the complex input geometry. In this work a simple solution is employed in order to calculate the stress - strain properties, using a bilinear material law and equivalent bulk geometry. The verification of the FE model is fulfilled through the comparison of the lattice deformation and compressive force between experimental data and FE calculated results. After the verification of the FE model, it was possible to determine the mechanical behaviour of stochastic lattices, for an extended range of the investigated parameters, using only computational tools. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

Background In systems biology, the dynamics of biological networks are often modeled with ordinary differential equations (ODEs) that encode interacting components in the systems, resulting in highly complex models. In contrast, the amount of experimentally available data is almost always limited, and insufficient to constrain the parameters. In this situation, parameter estimation is a very challenging problem. To address this challenge, two intuitive approaches are to perform experimental design to generate more data, and to perform model reduction to simplify the model. Experimental design and model reduction have been traditionally viewed as two distinct areas, and an extensive literature and excellent reviews exist on each of the two areas. Intriguingly, however, the intrinsic connections between the two areas have not been *** Experimental design and model reduction are deeply related, and can be considered as one unified framework. There are two recent methods that can tackle both areas, one based on model manifold and the other based on profile likelihood. Solar power availability is intermittent and must be accompanied by an energy storage system (ESS) so that the effect of variability can be minimized. Hence, a strategy is needed to find the optimum combination of grid power, solar power, and power from the ESS so that the total cost of energy can be minimized. A solution to this problem is proposed here as Advanced Optimal Resource Allocation (AORA). This control scheme uses the prediction of Photovoltaic (PV) power availability, the real-time price of energy, and the levelized cost of energy for both PV and ESS to optimally combine the dispatch of power sources. Simulation results are presented for a 24 h prediction window and compared with a baseline power usage scheme that is based on a fixed charging and discharging schedule for the ESS. The comparison shows that AORA results in a substantial cost savings over the baseline scheme. © 2018 IEEE.

Two-dimensional (2D) perovskites or Ruddleson Popper (RP) perovskites have emerged as a class of material inheriting the superior optoelectronic properties of two different materials: Perovskites and 2D materials. The large exciton binding energy and natural quantum well structure of 2D perovskite not only make these materials ideal platforms to study light-matter interactions, but also render them suitable for fabrication of various functional optoelectronic devices. Nanoscale structuring and morphology control have led to semiconductors with enhanced functionalities. For example, nanowires of semiconducting materials have been extensively used for important applications like lasing and sensing. Catalyst-assisted Vapor Liquid Solid (VLS) techniques, and template assisted growth, have conventionally been used for nanowire growth. However, catalyst and template-free scalable growth with morphology control of 2D perovskites have remained elusive. In this manuscript, we demonstrate a facile approach for morphology-controlled growth of high-quality nanowires of 2D perovskite, (BA)2PbI4. We demonstrate that the photoluminescence (PL) from the nanowires are highly polarized with a polarization ratio as large as ~ 0.73, which is one of the largest reported for perovskites. We further show that the photocurrent from the device based on the nanowire/graphene heterostructure is also sensitive to the polarization of the incident light with the photocurrent anisotropy ratio of ~3.62 (much larger than the previously reported best value of 2.68 for perovskite nanowires), thus demonstrating the potential of these nanowires as highly efficient photodetectors of polarized light. Dual Reconstruction with Densely Connected Residual Network for Single Image Super-Resolution

Deep learning-based single image super-resolution enables very fast and high-visual-quality reconstruction. Recently, an enhanced super-resolution based on generative adversarial network (ESRGAN) has achieved excellent performance in terms of both qualitative and quantitative quality of the reconstructed high-resolution image. In this paper, we propose to add one more shortcut between two dense-blocks, as well as add shortcut between two convolution layers inside a dense-block. With this simple strategy of adding more shortcuts in the proposed network, it enables a faster learning process as the gradient information can be back-propagated more easily. Based on the improved ESRGAN, the dual reconstruction is proposed to learn different aspects of the super-resolved image for judiciously enhancing the quality of the reconstructed image. In practice, the super-resolution model is pre-trained solely based on pixel distance, followed by fine-tuning the parameters in the model based on adversarial loss and perceptual loss. Finally, we fuse two different models by weighted-summing their parameters to obtain the final super-resolution model. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method achieves excellent performance in the real-world image super-resolution challenge. We have also verified that the proposed dual reconstruction does further improve the quality of the reconstructed image in terms of both PSNR and SSIM. Copyright © 2019, The Authors.
