As malicious operations become gradually very complex and involve advanced attack campaigns even on embedded systems and IoT, there is an increasing need for detecting malicious behavior on a system as it dynamically as it happens. In this paper, a Deep Learning based malicious behavior dynamic, run-time detection methodology is proposed that rely on the collection of Linux OS execution flow metrics/features like CPU, disk and memory usage and their association with ATT&CK MITRE knowledge base exploits. Using that approach, we can emulate the attack sequence of complex malicious activity and use the collected features to train Deep Learning models in order to classify execution operations at run-time as malicious or not. In the paper, we provide a feasibility study of the proposed solution based on the ATT&CK MITRE exploit attack graph emulation of the SysJoker backdoor malware and we train several Deep Learning models acting as classifiers. The provided results showed that in SysJoker use-case study of the proposed approach we managed to obtain more than 99% accuracy and less that 0.5% False Positive and False Negative Rates. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

In order to guarantee a harmonious coexistence of robots and humans, it is vital for the former to be able to navigate the environment in a safe manner, taking into consideration the people that populate it. This requires the robot to be capable of identifying where the surrounding people are, through adequate processing of the sensory data acquired. In this paper we present a 3D person detection system for indoor settings which fuses RGB and LiDAR data, simultaneously using the semantic information available from the camera and the precise and long-range data acquired by the LiDAR. The proposed approach utilizes SVM with various feature vectors to classify the point clusters, and it also introduces planarity as another feature, improving the overall detection performance considerably.

This study proposes a hybrid deep learning approach to address the complexity and dynamic characteristics of modern network environments. The research integrates Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and Convolutional Long and Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) networks to predict future network traffic and detect cyberattacks. The model was trained and evaluated on the CICIDS 2018 dataset which includes various types of normal and malicious traffic. Grid-based representations were created from the dataset. The attack type of each timestamp were visualized using distinct colors to the grid images. These images are sued as input of ConvLSTM model. Protocol and destination port are modeled as nodes in a graph, with volume of data flow represented as weighted edges. This graph-based representation is designed to capture unique traffic patterns of specific services and enhance the analysis of spatial and temporal features. Experimental results show a 13% increase in macro F1 score and a 4% increase in weighted F1 score, highlighting the effectiveness of the proposed method. This research highlights its potential to enable proactive responses through the prediction of potential cyberattack occurrences. © 2025 IEEE.

Distributed Volt-Var Control (VVC) is a widely used control mode of smart inverters. However, necessary VVC curve parameters are remotely communicated to the smart inverter, which opens doors for cyberattacks. If VVC curves of an inverter are maliciously manipulated, the attacked inverter's reactive power injection will oscillate, causing undesirable voltage oscillations to manifest in the distribution system, which, in turn, threatens the system's stability. In contrast with previous works which proposed methods to mitigate the oscillations after they are already present in the system, this paper presents an intrusion detection method to detect malicious VVC curves once they are communicated to the inverter. The proposed method utilizes a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) that is trained on features extracted from only the local measurements of the inverter. After a smart inverter is equipped with the proposed method, any communicated VVC curve will be verified by the MLP once received. If the curve is found to be malicious, it will be rejected, thus preventing unwanted oscillations beforehand. Otherwise, legitimate curves will be permitted. The performance of the proposed scheme is verified using the 9-bus Canadian urban benchmark distribution system simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC environment. Our results show that the proposed solution can accurately detect malicious VVC curves. © 2023 IEEE.

Multisensor fusion estimation of nonlinear systems with intermittent observations and heavy-tailed noises

Inspired by the robust student t-distribution based nonlinear filter(RSTNF), a student tdistribution and unscented transform(UT) based filter for state estimation of heavy-tailed nonlinear dynamic systems, a modified RSTNF for intermittent observations is derived. The fusion estimation for nonlinear multisensor systems with intermittent observations and heavy-tailed measurement and process noises is *** this work, the centralized fusion, the sequential fusion, and the na¨?ve distributed fusion algorithms are presented, respectively. Theoretical analysis shows that the presented algorithms are effective, which are the efficient extension of the classical unscented Kalman filter(UKF) or the cubature Kalman filter(CKF) based algorithms with Gaussian noises. Simulation results show that the presented algorithms are effective and feasible.

The advent of Programmable Wireless Environments (PWEs) has transformed the wireless propagation phenomenon into a software-defined resource, leveraging Software-defined metasurfaces (SDMs). These new technologies have shown that wireless waves can be routed within a space, contrary to the regular, chaotic wireless propagation, yielding considerable benefits to communication efficiency, and even completely new applications. A new topic has risen, in the context of modeling these capabilities as network resources, and allocating them to users. In this context, the present paper contributes HERA, a heuristic resource allocator that receives a setup with users and SDMs as input, and produces the necessary configuration of the latter, for efficient shared performance. Simulation results demonstrate considerable efficiency in this task, while the heuristic nature of HERA sets the basis for a flexible definition of complex user objectives in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

By using an autoencoder as a dimension reduction tool, an Autoencoder-embedded Teaching-Learning Based Optimization (ATLBO) has been proved to be effective in solving high-dimensional computationally expensive problems through several widely used function problems. However, the following two crucial issues have not been resolved, 1) ATLBO should be verified by solving real-life optimization problems;and 2) how autoencoder parameters and structures impact AEO's performance. In this work, ATLBO is verified by an energy consumption minimization problem (ECM) in mobile edge computing systems. To design an effective autoencoder for ATLBO, this work proposes a parameter tuning optimization strategy for autoencoders. By using the proposed Autoencoder Parameter Tuning (APT) strategy, ATLBO can enjoy higher robustness than those without it. The experimental results show that it is three to six times better than state-of-the-art methods in solving ECM. We consider the strategy-induced overhead and take the execution time as the primary criterion to evaluate them. In addition, the experimental results show that, against the conventional wisdom that higher-accuracy auto encoders bring higher system performance, lower-accuracy ones can actually assist ATLBO in locating the best solutions. This work promotes a novel application of autoencoders in optimization theory and practice. © 2023 IEEE.

The good, the bad and the ugly sides of data augmentation: an implicit spectral regularization perspective

Data augmentation (DA) is a powerful workhorse for bolstering performance in modern machine learning. Specific augmentations like translations and scaling in computer vision are traditionally believed to improve generalization by generating new (artificial) data from the same distribution. However, this traditional viewpoint does not explain the success of prevalent augmentations in modern machine learning (e.g. randomized masking, cutout, mixup), that greatly alter the training data distribution. In this work, we develop a new theoretical framework to characterize the impact of a general class of DA on underparameterized and overparameterized linear model generalization. Our framework reveals that DA induces implicit spectral regularization through a combination of two distinct effects: a) manipulating the relative proportion of eigenvalues of the data covariance matrix in a training-data-dependent manner, and b) uniformly boosting the entire spectrum of the data covariance matrix through ridge regression. These effects, when applied to popular augmentations, give rise to a wide variety of phenomena, including discrepancies in generalization between over-parameterized and under-parameterized regimes and differences between regression and classification tasks. Our framework highlights the nuanced and sometimes surprising impacts of DA on generalization, and serves as a testbed for novel augmentation design.

A disease is a distinct abnormal state that significantly affects the functioning of all or part of an individual and is not caused by external harm. Diseases are frequently understood as medical conditions connected with distinct indications and symptoms. According to a fairly wide categorization, diseases can also be categorized as mental disorders, deficient diseases, genetic diseases, degenerative diseases, self-inflicted diseases, infectious diseases, non-infectious diseases, social diseases, and physical diseases. Prevention of the diseases is of multiple instances. Primary prevention seeks to prevent illness or harm before it ever happens. Secondary prevention tries to lessen the effect of an illness or damage that has already happened. This is done through diagnosing and treating illness or injury as soon as feasible to stop or delay its course, supporting personal ways to avoid recurrence or reinjury, and implementing programs to restore individuals to their previous health and function to prevent long-term difficulties. Tertiary prevention tries to lessen the impact of a continuing sickness or injury that has enduring repercussions. Diagnosis of the disease at an earlier stage is important for the treatment of the disease. Hence, in this study, deep learning algorithms, such as VGG16, EfficientNetB4, and ResNet, are utilized to diagnose various diseases, such as Alzheimer's, brain tumors, skin diseases, and lung diseases. Chest X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, and skin lesions are used to diagnose the mentioned diseases. Transfer learning algorithms, such as VGG16, VGG19, ResNet, InceptionV3, and EfficientNetB4, are utilized to categorize various diseases. EfficientNetB4 with the learning rate annealing, having obtained an accuracy of 94.04% on the test dataset, is observed. As a consequence, we observed that every network has unique particular skills on the multi-disease dataset, which includes chest X-rays, MRI scans, etc., © The Author(s) 2024.

Securing digital image data is a key concern in today’s information-driven *** encryption techniques are required to protect sensitive image data,with the Substitution-box(S-box)often playing a pivotal role in many symmetric encryption *** study introduces an innovative approach to creating S-boxes for encryption *** proposed S-boxes are tested for validity and non-linearity by incorporating them into an image encryption *** nonlinearity measure of the proposed S-boxes is *** qualities significantly enhance its resistance to common cryptographic attacks,ensuring high image data ***,to assess the robustness of the S-boxes,an encryption system has also been proposed and the proposed S-boxes have been integrated into the designed encryption *** validate the effectiveness of the proposed encryption system,a comprehensive security analysis including brute force attack and histogram analysis has been *** addition,to determine the level of security during the transmission and storage of digital content,the encryption system’s Number of Pixel Change Rate(NPCR),and Unified Averaged Changed Intensity(UACI)are *** results indicate a 99.71%NPCR and 33.51%*** results demonstrate that the proposed S-boxes offer a significant level of security for digital content throughout its transmission and storage.
