MESSI: Task Mapping and Scheduling Strategy for FPGA-based Heterogeneous Real-Time systems

Continuous demands for improved performance within constrained resource budgets are driving a move from homogeneous to heterogeneous processing platforms for the implementation of today's Real-Time (RT) embedded systems. The applications executing on such systems are typically represented as a Precedence Task Graph (PTG), where a node represents a task or algorithm for one functionality and edges represent the complex interactions between multiple functionalities. Due to RT constraints, the task graph needs to be executed within a specified deadline. Although some existing studies have looked into solving this challenge, comprehensive studies that combine the theoretical features of RT task-graph mapping and scheduling with practical runtime architectural characteristics have mostly been ignored to date. Hence, in this article, we consider the challenge of scheduling an RT application modeled as a single PTG, with the objective of minimizing the overall execution time under Hardware (HW) resource and deadline constraints for heterogeneous Central Processing Unit (CPU) + Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) architectures. First, we introduce an optimal solution using Integer Linear Programming (ILP). However, this ILP-based optimal solution suffers from computational complexity and does not scale well even for moderately large problem sizes. Hence, we additionally propose heuristic algorithms for task mapping and scheduling. The efficiency of the proposed scheme, named MESSI, has been evaluated through experiments using PTG on a practical CPU+FPGA system regarding current technology restrictions. Our experiments demonstrate that performance gains of 55.6% and area usage reductions of 46.3% are possible compared to full Software (SW) and HW execution, respectively. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are efficient tools for pattern recognition applications. They have found applications in wireless communication systems such as modulation classification from constellation diagrams. Unfortunately, noisy channels may render the constellation points deformed and scattered, which makes the classification a difficult task. This paper presents an efficient modulation classification algorithm based on CNNs. Constellation diagrams are generated for each modulation type and used for training and testing of the CNNs. The proposed work depends on the application of Radon Transform (RT) to generate more representative patterns for the constellation diagrams to be used for training and testing. The RT has a good ability to represent discrete points in the spatial domain as curved lines. Several pre-trained networks including AlexNet, VGG-16, and VGG-19 are used as classifiers for modulation type from the spatial-domain constellation diagrams or their RTs. Several simulation experiments are presented in this paper to compare different scenarios for modulation classification at different Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs) and fading channel conditions. © 2022, The Author(s).

A disease is a distinct abnormal state that significantly affects the functioning of all or part of an individual and is not caused by external harm. Diseases are frequently understood as medical conditions connected with distinct indications and symptoms. According to a fairly wide categorization, diseases can also be categorized as mental disorders, deficient diseases, genetic diseases, degenerative diseases, self-inflicted diseases, infectious diseases, non-infectious diseases, social diseases, and physical diseases. Prevention of the diseases is of multiple instances. Primary prevention seeks to prevent illness or harm before it ever happens. Secondary prevention tries to lessen the effect of an illness or damage that has already happened. This is done through diagnosing and treating illness or injury as soon as feasible to stop or delay its course, supporting personal ways to avoid recurrence or reinjury, and implementing programs to restore individuals to their previous health and function to prevent long-term difficulties. Tertiary prevention tries to lessen the impact of a continuing sickness or injury that has enduring repercussions. Diagnosis of the disease at an earlier stage is important for the treatment of the disease. Hence, in this study, deep learning algorithms, such as VGG16, EfficientNetB4, and ResNet, are utilized to diagnose various diseases, such as Alzheimer's, brain tumors, skin diseases, and lung diseases. Chest X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, and skin lesions are used to diagnose the mentioned diseases. Transfer learning algorithms, such as VGG16, VGG19, ResNet, InceptionV3, and EfficientNetB4, are utilized to categorize various diseases. EfficientNetB4 with the learning rate annealing, having obtained an accuracy of 94.04% on the test dataset, is observed. As a consequence, we observed that every network has unique particular skills on the multi-disease dataset, which includes chest X-rays, MRI scans, etc., © The Author(s) 2024.

To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes. © 2024 IEEE.

The Aedes mosquito, found in tropical areas, transmits, and causes dengue fever. The spread of the dengue fever virus from an infected Aedes mosquito bite typically takes between three and fifteen days to manifest itself clinically as dengue fever symptoms. Early and automated detection of this illness will reduce the occurrence of outbreaks and facilitate the digitization of the system. Our primary objective is to identify regions at high risk for dengue fever using limited image data through the utilization of sophisticated machine learning and image processing methods. This work showcases the application of transfer learning algorithms for the timely identification of regions at risk for dengue mosquito infestation, particularly in situations where obtaining early data on dengue outbreaks is challenging. The experiments included images of 2150 dengue-positive data sets and 1440 dengue-negative data sets. We used AI and image classifiers Yolo V4 Tin, Tensor Flow, Google Colab, etc. for the training data set, and the system makes predictions with a 99.63% accuracy rate. Our system has some unique attributes;it not only detects the percentage of dengue probability but also the specific dengue-prone location on the submitted image. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of IoT technology, various kinds of data are generated by IoT devices. Some of this data contains information on geographical location and time. We refer to such data as spatio-temporal data (STD). Since the 'local production and consumption' of STD is effective for location-dependent applications, we have proposed an STD retention system that utilizes vehicles as data sources. STD sources ranges from simple sensory data to large video data. However, since previous methods assumed to retain an STD consisting of only one packet, retention of large STD sources may suffer from frequent packet collisions due to the increase in the number of packet transmissions. In this paper, we propose a data completeness-aware transmission control mechanism for large STD retention. Our simulation results showed that the proposed scheme reduces channel collision by suppressing the forwarding of incomplete data, and achieved a nearly 100% coverage rate. © 2022 IEEE.

Recently,multimodal multiobjective optimization problems(MMOPs)have received increasing *** goal is to find a Pareto front and as many equivalent Pareto optimal solutions as *** some evolutionary algorithms for them have been proposed,they mainly focus on the convergence rate in the decision space while ignoring solutions *** this paper,we propose a new multiobjective fireworks algorithm for them,which is able to balance exploitation and exploration in the decision *** first extend a latest single-objective fireworks algorithm to handle *** we make improvements by incorporating an adaptive strategy and special archive guidance into it,where special archives are established for each firework,and two strategies(i.e.,explosion and random strategies)are adaptively selected to update the positions of sparks generated by fireworks with the guidance of special ***,we compare the proposed algorithm with eight state-of-the-art multimodal multiobjective algorithms on all 22 MMOPs from CEC2019 and several imbalanced distance minimization *** results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to compared algorithms in solving ***,its runtime is less than its peers'.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an evolving field of research that focuses on understanding and improving the communication and interaction between humans and computers. Over the past decades, we have seen many significant advances in this field, which have contributed to the widespread adoption and integration of technology into our daily lives. HCI research and development aims to design information technology systems to meet the needs and preferences of users. Usability, efficiency, accessibility and user satisfaction are important considerations in HCI design. This paper presents the results of a pilot study on user acceptance of HCIs. The results show that users are positive about and willing to use HCIs. © 2023 IEEE.

This study investigates public attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccine through Twitter data analysis. Using the Twitter API, tweets were collected, preprocessed, and labeled. Features were extracted using the Bag of Words representation, and sentiment analysis was conducted using Text Blob and Vader. Machine learning and deep learning models were trained and tested, revealing that deep learning models achieved the highest accuracy and F1 score. The research underscores the efficacy of machine learning and deep learning in analyzing COVID-19 vaccine-related tweets, shedding light on factors influencing vaccine resistance. These insights are crucial for pharmaceutical companies and public health officials, enabling them to address barriers to vaccine acceptance and enhance the societal benefits of widespread vaccination, contributing to the pandemic's resolution. © 2023 IEEE.
