Moiré superlattices of van der Waals materials, such as twisted graphene and transitional metal dichalcogenides, have recently emerged as a fascinating platform to study strongly correlated states in two dimensions (2D), thanks to the strong electron interaction in the moiré minibands.1-19 In most systems, the correlated states appear when the moiré lattice is filled by integer number of electrons per moiré unit cell. Recently, correlated states at fractional fillings of 1/3 and 2/3 holes per moiré unit cell has been reported in the WS2/WSe2 heterobilayer, hinting the long range nature of the electron interaction.16 In this work, employing a scanning microwave impedance microscopy technique that is sensitive to local electrical properties, we observe a series of correlated insulating states at fractional fillings of the moiré minibands on both electron- and hole-doped sides in angle-aligned WS2/WSe2 hetero-bilayers, with certain states persisting at temperatures up to 120 K. Monte Carlo simulations reveal that these insulating states correspond to ordering of electrons in the moiré lattice with a periodicity much larger than the moiré unit cell, indicating a surprisingly strong and long-range interaction beyond the nearest neighbors. In this paper, we propose a power encoding method for converting a high-resolution OFDM baseband signal into a signal that assumes only a finite number of values. This is achieved by the series interconnection of, optimally (co) designed, delta-sigma (ΔΣM) and digital pulse-width modulators (DPWM). Given an input signal class with a known amplitude distribution (e.g., OFDM), parameters of the multilevel DPWM are designed such that the mean squared error of the inherent DPWM quantization noise is minimized. Parameters of the ΔΣM are then chosen with respect to the designed DPWM, so to optimally shape the inherent quantization noise out of the spectral band of interest. The superior performance of the proposed novel power encoding scheme is demonstrated by Matlab simulations on several standardized LTE test signals.

This paper investigates the ultimate boundedness control problem for a class of networked systems with redundant channels under uniform quantization effects. Quantized output of concerned NCSs is transmitted to remote controller through a communication channel. For the purpose of improving communication quality, a redundant channel connected with a more precise quantizer is also employed, where the time to accomplish quantizing task is also considered. The transmission delays of such a redundant channel are modelled by a sequence of independent and identically distributed(i.i.d.) stochastic variable. An output feedback controller is developed under which the exponentially ultimate boundedness in mean square could be *** the virtue of stochastic analysis technology and Lyapunov-like method, sufficient conditions are established to ensure the existence of the desired controller, and the desired gain matrices are then obtained by solving a set of linear matrix ***, the effectiveness of designed controller is demonstrated through a simulation example.

We report the results of an experimental search for ultralight axionlike dark matter in the mass range 162–166 neV. The detection scheme of our Cosmic Axion Spin Precession Experiment is based on a precision measurement of Pb207 solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance in a polarized ferroelectric crystal. Axionlike dark matter can exert an oscillating torque on Pb207 nuclear spins via the electric dipole moment coupling gd or via the gradient coupling gaNN. We calibrate the detector and characterize the excitation spectrum and relaxation parameters of the nuclear spin ensemble with pulsed magnetic resonance measurements in a 4.4 T magnetic field. We sweep the magnetic field near this value and search for axionlike dark matter with Compton frequency within a 1 MHz band centered at 39.65 MHz. Our measurements place the upper bounds |gd|<9.5×10−4 GeV−2 and |gaNN|<2.8×10−1 GeV−1 (95% confidence level) in this frequency range. The constraint on gd corresponds to an upper bound of 1.0×10−21 e cm on the amplitude of oscillations of the neutron electric dipole moment and 4.3×10−6 on the amplitude of oscillations of CP-violating θ parameter of quantum chromodynamics. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance to search for axionlike dark matter in the neV mass range.

As a consequence of higher blocking voltage and power density by using SiC devices, detailed analysis and careful design of electrical insulation are required. High partial discharge initiated from high electric field regions damages the insulation materials and leads to insulation failure. Therefore, the study of the electric field intensity distribution in all components of a high power density SiC-based converter and among multiple converters, if modular multilevel converter used, is needed. In this paper, a three-dimensional model developed in ANSYS of a high power density H-Bridge PEBB, benefiting from 10 kV SiC MOSFETs on a 6 kV DC bus, is presented. Using the finite element method, the electric field distribution inside the converter is calculated, and critical areas with high electric field intensities prone to initiate partial discharges are identified. Moreover, by using this model, geometry-based modifications are investigated to relieve high electric field regions. Finally, partial discharge tests have been applied to multiple critical parts, like the laminated bus and the interconnectors. It helps evaluate various insulation designs, provide some design guidelines and improvement suggestions for such application as well. © 2018 IEEE.

We propose a model reduction procedure for approximating large-scale linear systems with quadratic output by means of lower dimensional systems with the same structure. The framework is based on an iteration that, at each step, computes left and right projections matrices (hence two-sided). This is done by means of solving two linear Sylvester equations.

Surface plasmon mediated hot carrier generation is widely utilized for the manipulation of the electron-photon interactions in many types of optoelectronic devices including solar cells, photodiodes, and optical modulators. A diversity of plasmonic systems such as nanoparticles, resonators, and waveguides have been introduced to enhance hot carrier generation;however, the impact of the propagating surface plasmons on hot carrier lifetime has not been clearly demonstrated. Here, we systematically study the hot carrier relaxation in thin film gold (Au) samples under surface plasmon coupling with the Kretschmann configuration. We observe that the locally confined electric field at the surface of the metal significantly affects the hot carrier distribution and electron temperature, which results in a slowing of the hot electrons relaxation time, regardless of the average value of the absorbed power in the Au thin film. This result could be extended to other plasmonic nanostructures, enabling the control of hot carrier lifetimes throughout the optical frequency range. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Overlapping clusters are common in models of many practical data-segmentation applications. Suppose we are given n elements to be clustered into k possibly overlapping clusters, and an oracle that can interactively answer queries of the form "do elements u and v belong to the same cluster?" The goal is to recover the clusters with minimum number of such queries. This problem has been of recent interest for the case of disjoint clusters. In this paper, we look at the more practical scenario of overlapping clusters, and provide upper bounds (with algorithms) on the sufficient number of queries. We provide algorithmic results under both arbitrary (worst-case) and statistical modeling assumptions. Our algorithms are parameter free, efficient, and work in the presence of random noise. We also derive information-theoretic lower bounds on the number of queries needed, proving that our algorithms are order optimal. Finally, we test our algorithms over both synthetic and real-world data, showing their practicality and effectiveness. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Spin-diodes are usually resonant in nature (GHz frequency) and tuneable by magnetic field and bias current with performances, in terms of sensitivity and minimum detectable power, overcoming the semiconductor counterpart, i.e. Schottky diodes. Recently, spin diodes characterized by a low frequency detection (MHz frequency) have been proposed. Here, we show a strategy to design low frequency detectors based on magnetic tunnel junctions having the interfacial perpendicular anisotropy of the same order of the demagnetizing field out-of-plane component. Micromagnetic calculations show that to reach this detection regime a threshold input power has to be overcome and the phase shift between the oscillation magnetoresistive signal and the input radiofrequency current plays the key role in determining the value of the rectification voltage.
