The advent of the Internet of Things (loT) heralds a trans formative era for electronic healthcare systems in smart environments, enabling remote healthcare delivery for individuals with special medical needs through smart home technologies. These smart homes are fitted with specialized electronic devices that automate healthcare delivery, enhancing patient safety and enabling real-time health monitoring. Central to this system is a local intelligence unit that processes sensed data, identifies critical conditions, and facilitates communication between patients and healthcare providers. The integration of telemedicine and telecare into smart homes has led to the development of Telecare Medicine Information Systems (TMIS), further advancing remote healthcare services. However, TMIS faces significant security challenges, particularly in protecting sensitive user data transmitted over public networks. To overcome these vulnerabilities, identity-based authentication techniques based on extended chaotic maps have been proposed, though they often fall short of advanced security threats. This study introduces an innovative identity-based authentication scheme, leveraging an extended Chebyshev chaotic map within a smart city context, tailored for use in multi-server environments without trusted server relationships. The proposed scheme eliminates the need for a registration center and requires users to maintain only a single password for accessing multiple TMIS servers, offering enhanced security features and reduced computational overhead. The security and efficiency of the proposed scheme are substantiated through formal proof in the random oracle model, marking a significant advancement in secure remote healthcare delivery.

The need to find alternative materials to replace aqueous amine solutions for CO2 capture in post-combustion technologies is pressing. This study assesses the CO2 sorption capacity and CO2/N2 selectivity of three dicationic ionic liquids with distinct anions immobilized in commercial mesoporous silica support (SBA-15). The samples were characterized by UART-FTIR, NMR, Raman, FESEM, TEM, TGA, Magnetometry (VSM), BET and BJH. The highest CO2 sorption capacity and CO2/N2 selectivity were obtained for sample SBA@DIL_2FeCl4 [at 1 bar and 25°C;57.31 (±0.02) mg CO2/g;12.27 (±0.72)]. The results were compared to pristine SBA-15 and revealed a similar sorption capacity, indicating that the IL has no impact on the silicás CO2 sorption capacity. On the other hand, the selectivity was improved by approximately 3.8, demonstrating the ionic liquid´s affinity for the CO2 molecule. The material underwent multiple sorption/desorption cycles and proved to be stable and a promising option for use in industrial CO2 capture processes. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this proceeding, we present polarization data of sidebands emitted from strongly driven quasiparticles, demonstrate the dependence of these data on various parameters of the external driving field, and describe the data using an analytical expression, dependent on driving field parameters and the effective Hamiltonian of the system. We propose using this method on spin-momentum locked systems, such as altermagnets, to observe and reconstruct sidebands which are influenced by the topology of individual bands.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly evolving, and one new paradigm is the “smart home,” which allows people to control their intelligent home gadgets from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Sensitive information gathered by smart devices is at risk of being intercepted and exploited unlawfully by a malicious third party due to insecure communication routes between the client and the smart devices. Through Telecare Medical Information Systems (TMIS), patients can get several types of healthcare delivery services in the comfort of their homes. Access to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) by patients or clinicians requires authentication, patient privacy protection, security, and data confidentiality. Thus, developing an effective anonymous authentication mechanism is crucial to ensure secure communications in the smart home setting. This paper describes a novel and effective security scheme using extended Chebyshev chaotic maps in the context of smart home environments. Analytical results show that the proposed authentication technique is secure from replay attacks, impersonation attacks, offline password guessing attacks, stolen verification table attacks, patient privacy protection, perfect forward secrecy, and known key security. Finally, the projected authentication technique gives superior results to the preliminary techniques.

Although numerous drugs are practiced to control malaria and its vectors, more recently, eco-friendly control tools have been proposed to battle its etiologic agents. Thus, using green bionanotechnology approaches, we aimed to synthesize palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) from the macroalgae Sargassum fusiforme (Sf), its potential antiparasitic activity against P. falciparum, as well as its possible cytotoxicity, in HeLa cells. After the biosynthesis of the PdSf NPs, their characterization was carried out by UV–Vis, FESEM, and EDX analyses, and their hydrodynamic size, zeta potential, and surface area were determined. Furthermore, the functional groups of the PdSf NPs were analyzed by FT-IR and GC–MS. While PdSf NPs had an IC50 of 7.68 µg/mL (Chloroquine (C)-s) and 16.42 µg/mL, S. fusiforme extract had an IC50 of 14.38 µg/mL (CQ-s) and 35.27 µg/mL (CQ- r). With an IC50 value of 94.49 µg/mL, PdSf NPs exhibited the least toxic effect on the HeLa cells. The Lipinski rule of five and ADMET prediction were used to assess the in-silico models of caffeine acid hexoside and quercetin 7-O-hexoside for the presence of drug-like properties. Pathogenic proteins, primarily responsible for motility, binding, and disease-causing, were the target of the structurally based docking studies between plant-derived compounds and pathogenic proteins. Thus, our study pioneered promising results that support the potential antiplasmodial activity of eco-friendly synthesized PdSf NPs using S. fusiforme extract against P. falciparum, opening perspectives for further exploration into the use of these NPs in malaria therapy. © 2022, The Authors. Pharmaceutical active compound (PhAC) residues are considered an emerging micropollutant that enters the aquatic environment and causes harmful ecotoxicity. The significant sources of PhACs in the environment include the pharmaceutical industry, hospital streams, and agricultural wastes (animal husbandry). Recent investigations demonstrated that wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are an important source of PhACs discharging ecosystems. Several commonly reported that PhACs are detected in a range level from ng L−1 to μg L−1 concentration in WWTP effluents. These compounds can have acute and chronic adverse impacts on natural wildlife, including flora and fauna. The approaches for PhAC removals in WWTPs include bioremediation, adsorption (e.g., biochar, chitosan, and graphene), and advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Overall, adsorption and AOPs can effectively remove PhACs from wastewater aided by oxidizing radicals. Heterogeneous photocatalysis has also proved to be a sustainable solution. Bioremediation approaches such as membrane bioreactors (MBRs), constructed wetlands (CWs), and microalgal-based systems were applied to minimize pharmaceutical pollution. Noteworthy, applying MBRs has illustrated high removal efficiencies of up to 99%, promising prospective future. However, WWTPs should be combined with advanced solutions, e.g., AOPs/photodegradation, microalgae–bacteria consortia, etc., to treat and minimize their accumulation. More effective and novel technologies (e.g., new generation bioremediation) for PhAC degradation must be investigated and specially designed for a low-cost and full-scale. Investigating green and eco-friendly PhACs with advantages, e.g., low persistence, no bioaccumulation, less or non-toxicity, and environmentally friendly, is also necessary. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

The present study aimed to assess the Bacillus cereus SDN1 native bacterium's ability to clean up contaminated, polluted water. This bacterium was identified by its morphological and biochemical characteristics, which were then confirmed at the genus level. Furthermore, the isolated B. cereus (NCBI accession No: MW828583) was identified genomically by PCR amplifying 16s rDNA using a universal primer. The phylogenetic analysis of the rDNA sequence was conducted to determine the taxonomic and evolutionary profile of the isolate of the previously identified Bacillus sp. Besides, B. cereus and the bacterial consortium were treated using sewage wastewater. After 15 days of treatment, the following pollutants were reduced: total hardness particles removal varied from 63.33% to 67.55%, calcium removal varied from 90% to 93.33%, and total nitrate decreased range from 37.77% to 22.22%, respectively. electrical conductivity ranged from 1809 mS/cm to 2500 mS/cm, and pH values ranged from 6.5 to 8.95. The outcome of in-situ remediation results suggests that B. cereus has a noticeable remediation efficiency to the suspended particles. A root tip test was also utilized to investigate the genotoxicity of treated and untreated sewage-contaminated waters on onion (Allium cepa) root cells. The highest chromosomal aberrations and mitotic inhibition were found in roots exposed to contaminated water. The study can thus be applied as a biomarker to identify the genotoxic impacts of sewage water pollution on biota. It may be concluded that employing bacterial consortia for domestic wastewater treatment could be a suitable strategy for chemical contaminants removal. Additionally, based on an identified bacterial consortium, this work offers a low-cost and eco-favorable method for treating household effluent. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Smart cities are fast proliferating the global space in recent times. In order to achieve the envisioned next-generation cities, the smart city paradigm aspires to develop a completely integrated network-based infrastructure. With the development of innovative smart cities, ICT-based e-governance has made it possible for services to be delivered intelligently and interactively via online platforms. However, the communication between government agencies and other stakeholders in the smart city ecosystem is through open channels, which poses serious security concerns. In order to address this problem, this work proposes a robust remote client password authentication technique for e-governance applications in smart cities. The proposed authentication technique is lightweight, resistant to several attacks, and achieves low computational overhead.

The growing use of synthetic chemical compounds/substances in vector control of mosquitoes, associated with their adverse effects on the environment and non-target organisms, has demanded the development of eco-friendly alternatives. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the larvicidal action of different cellulose microcrystalline (CMs) concentrations and investigate their toxicity mechanisms in Culex quinquefasciatus fourth instar larvae as a model species. Probit analysis revealed that the median lethal concentrations (LC50) for 24 h and 36 h exposure were 100 and 58.29 mg/L, respectively. We also showed that such concentrations induced a redox imbalance in the larvae, marked by an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), as well as a reduction in the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). Furthermore, different alterations in the external morphology of the larvae were associated with the ingestion of CMs. On the other hand, exposure of adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) to LC5024h and LC5036h for seven days did not induce any behavioral changes or alterations mutagenic, genotoxic, biochemical, or in the pro- and anti-inflammatory response. Thus, taken together, our study demonstrates for the first time that the use of CMs can constitute a promising strategy in the control of C. quinquefasciatus larvae, combining insecticidal efficiency with an "eco-friendly" approach in the fight against an important mosquito vector of several human diseases. © 2023, The Authors.
