A common task in computational text analyses is to quantify how two corpora differ according to a measurement like word frequency, sentiment, or information content. However, collapsing the texts' rich stories into a single number is often conceptually perilous, and it is difficult to confidently interpret interesting or unexpected textual patterns without looming concerns about data artifacts or measurement validity. To better capture fine-grained differences between texts, we introduce generalized word shift graphs, visualizations which yield a meaningful and interpretable summary of how individual words contribute to the variation between two texts for any measure that can be formulated as a weighted average. We show that this framework naturally encompasses many of the most commonly used approaches for comparing texts, including relative frequencies, dictionary scores, and entropy-based measures like the Kullback-Leibler and Jensen-Shannon divergences. Through several case studies, we demonstrate how generalized word shift graphs can be flexibly applied across domains for diagnostic investigation, hypothesis generation, and substantive interpretation. By providing a detailed lens into textual shifts between corpora, generalized word shift graphs help computational social scientists, digital humanists, and other text analysis practitioners fashion more robust scientific narratives. This paper deals with tangible objects intended for improving young children education in the classroom. Aligned with recent trends that embed interactivity and connectivity in physical objects, our study augments traditional wooden toy blocks with sensors detecting movement, location and alignment as well as providing visual and aural positive feedback when a good result is attained. Several prototypes were designed and tested with children for basic spelling, vocabulary and basic math exercises. Results obtained are positive and encouraging to continue improving the proposed tangible system. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2017.

Analysis of an individual's immunoglobulin or T cell receptor gene repertoire can provide important insights into immune function. High-quality analysis of adaptive immune receptor repertoire sequencing data depends upon accurate and relatively complete germline sets, but current sets are known to be incomplete. Established processes for the review and systematic naming of receptor germline genes and alleles require specific evidence and data types, but the discovery landscape is rapidly changing. To exploit the potential of emerging data, and to provide the field with improved state-of-the-art germline sets, an intermediate approach is needed that will allow the rapid publication of consolidated sets derived from these emerging sources. These sets must use a consistent naming scheme and allow refinement and consolidation into genes as new information emerges. Name changes should be minimised, but, where changes occur, the naming history of a sequence must be traceable. Here we outline the current issues and opportunities for the curation of germline IG/TR genes and present a forward-looking data model for building out more robust germline sets that can dovetail with current established processes. We describe interoperability standards for germline sets, and an approach to transparency based on principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability.

In this work, the result of the initial attempt to propose an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) digital security and interoperability standard to support the mobility among ASEAN countries is presented. Literature reviews on existing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) related digital technologies of six ASEAN member countries are conducted. Several concerns related to creating/implementing the ASEAN digital security and interoperability standard are discussed including the technology accessing concern, the data security and privacy concern, and the data interoperability and availability concern. The proposed solution toward creating an ASEAN digital security and interoperability standard is then presented. To evaluate the proposed solution, a survey has been conducted on representatives of nine ASEAN countries on four main issues including the security standards and requirements, the interoperability standard and requirements, the certifications, and the implementation challenges. According to the survey and the discussion, seven recommendations were proposed toward creating an ASEAN digital security and interoperability standard. First, each country collects and maintains the data of its own citizens and also provides a method to authenticate and access the data by authorized requests. Second, QR code standard or ASEAN QR code standard must be agreed upon so that it can be authenticated and verified by ASEAN countries. Third, health risk assessment must be agreed upon to be used. Forth, the security standard, the data, the data format and the exchange protocol must be agreed upon at the ASEAN policy level while adoption of international standards as an implementation guideline will ease of the process and neutralize different requirements from various countries. An In-Depth Analysis of visual Tracking with Siamese Neural Networks

to study the whole literature nor is it an attempt to review all kinds of neural networks proposed for visual tracking. We focus instead on Siamese neural networks which are a promising starting point for studying the challenging problem of tracking. These networks integrate efficiently feature learning and the temporal matching and have so far shown state-of-the-art performance. In particular, the branches of Siamese networks, their layers connecting these branches, specific aspects of training and the embedding of these networks into the tracker are highlighted. Quantitative results from existing papers are compared with the conclusion that the current evaluation methodology shows problems with the reproducibility and the comparability of results. The paper proposes a novel Lisp-like formalism for a better comparison of trackers. This assumes a certain functional design and functional decomposition of trackers. The paper tries to give foundation for tracker design by a formulation of the problem based on the theory of machine learning and by the interpretation of a tracker as a decision function. The work concludes with promising lines of research and suggests future *** survey presents a deep analysis of the learning and inference capabilities in nine popular trackers. Image noise reduction, or denoising, became an attractive research domain in the recent years. There are several published approaches in the image denoising field and each one has its presumptions, advantages, and limitations. In this paper, we address the problem of eliminating or even decreasing the noise from medical images. Some schemes for image noise reduction are proposed. The schemes include DCT_OMP, DCT_BOMP, Log Gabor_BOMP, DCT_OCMP and Wavelet_OMP. In these schemes, the image content is represented as a sparse linear combination of a set of atoms that can be obtained from some trained dictionaries. In literature, several algorithms are proposed to build up these kinds of dictionaries. In our study, the K-SVD algorithm is utilized to obtain a dictionary that can effectively describe the image. Also, some greedy algorithms are used to perform the sparse-coding of the signal. The proposed schemes have been tested on two different medical images with different levels of an additive noise. The Log Gabor_BOMP scheme showed a significant outperformance, in both the de-noising results and computational time, on all the other schemes.

This paper describes the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative 2017.5 pre-campaign. Like in 2012, when we transitioned the evaluation to the SEALS platform, we have also conducted a pre-campaign to assess the feasibility of moving to the HOBBIT platform. We report the experiences of this pre-campaign and discuss the future steps for the OAEI. © 2018 CEUR-WS.

The aim of this one-day workshop is to share existing research, discuss common practices, and to develop new strategies and tools for designing for social justice in HCI. This workshop will bring together a set of HCI scholars, designers, and community members to discuss social justice perspectives on interaction design and technology. We will explore theoretical and methodological approaches in and around HCI that can help us generatively consider issues of power, privilege, and access in their complexity. We will discuss the challenges associated with taking a justice approach in HCI, looking toward existing practices we find both productive and problematic. This workshop will bridge current gaps in research and practice by developing concrete strategies for both designing and evaluating social change oriented work in HCI, where agendas are made clear and researchers are held accountable for the outcomes of their work by members of their field site and the research community. © 2016 Authors.

Massive machine type communication (MTC) brings new challenges to next generation wide-area networks. Random Access Channel procedure (RACH) used in LTE-Advanced system for request delivery, for instance, is inefficient in handling massive number of concurrent access requests. The S-Aloha approach in RACH will lead to unsustainable delays and resource wastage due to collisions from concurrent access in massive MTC networks. To address this issue, we propose a distributed queue based MTC communication protocol that exploits multiple packet reception (MPR) capability of MTC devices to self-organize themselves into a logical queue in a distributed way such that the devices connect to BS depending on their positions in the queue. We derive the algorithm and present analysis of its performance in regard to delay and throughput. The algorithm behaves like S-Aloha when MTC traffic load is low and seamlessly and smoothly switches to a reservation based protocol during heavy traffic. From the simulation results, the proposed scheme exhibits better performance compared to conventional RACH procedure as it increases number of successful transmissions by 2.7 times and reduces both the average access delay and transmission failure probability by 20%.
