This research work proposes a novel approach to sonic log prediction in the oil and gas industry, emphasizing the importance of accurate DTC (Compressional Sonic Transit Time) and DTS (Shear Sonic Transit Time) values for reservoir characterization. The methodology combines machine learning and signal processing, specifically Wavelet transformation, to enhance prediction accuracy. The process involves dataset preprocessing, Wavelet transformation on seismic signals, feature extraction, and machine learning model training. Results demonstrate an impressive 89 percent accuracy, surpassing other algorithms. The dataset utilized is comprehensive and diverse, ensuring the model's robustness across various geological scenarios. The proposed approach significantly contributes to accurate wave velocity estimation, boosting confidence in reservoir characterization. Overall, the study offers a practical and effective solution for improving sonic log predictions, benefiting hydrocarbon exploration and decision-making in the petroleum industry. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, the significant investments made in space exploration programs globally have elevated the conversation about populating Mars to the fore. However, it poses major difficulties, particularly given the enormous payload needed for sustained missions. It would be expensive and impractical to transport all necessary supplies from Earth, including large construction machinery like cranes. This paper introduces the design of a device that autonomously constructs structures on Mars utilizing local regolith as feedstock. The solution aims to remove the need of heavy machinery transportation by additively manufacturing structures using smaller wheeled mobile units. © 2024 IEEE.

Design and implementation of combined liquid pump and active–passive mixer for a drug delivery system utilizing two 1-DOF piezoelectric actuated cantilever beams

In a biomedical drug delivery system, liquid medication is provided to the patient through a saline solution, administered in tiny drops. The spread of the medicine in the solution is an essential aspect for the solution to become homogeneous. The present study introduces a combined pump and active–passive mixer arrangement consisting of dual piezoelectrically actuated 1-degree of freedom (DOF) Aluminium cantilever beams. The free end of each beam is attached to a borosilicate glass tube set-up that works as both pump and a mixer. The setup consists of two vertical tubes, connecting channels, a glass bulb, and a coiled tube. When the piezoelectric actuated cantilever beam is excited by an excitation voltage, it deflects and vibrates along with the glass tube arrangement resulting in the vertical tubes pumping liquid from the two separate glass containers due to the mechanical vibratory movement. The connecting channels pass the pumped fluid into the vibrating glass bulb and the coiled tube where these two liquids mix. We tested the mixing executions of four different geometries, G-1 – G-4, based on changed δ (coil curvature ratio), p (pitch), and n (number of windings). Initial pumping was started at 90 VP-P input voltage for all geometries, and the observed flow rate and velocity were 2.91 ml min−1 and 0.9160 mm min−1 for G-1 geometry. A UV–visible spectrophotometer was used to evaluate the mixing execution by measuring the solution's absorbance values before and after mixing. © 2021

Monitoring human body temperature is an important aspect that plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and productive working environment. This paper presents an RFID based embedded system for recording the identity and body temperature of people in an industrial or institutional working environment. A prototype is developed and demonstrated using a commercial RFID tag attached to the person and a temperature screening module connected to the RFID reader. When a person with a tag enters the hotspot zone of the reader, the identity part will be automatically recorded, and the temperature sensor is facilitated in such a way that the infrared waves will hit the forehead or forearm of the individual. An ultrasonic sensor with distance logic is used to maintain the accuracy of body temperature measurements and prevent the misreading of ambient temperature as body temperature. The RSSI feature of an RFID tag is used to eliminate the ambiguity in mapping between the identity of a person and his body temperature. The acquired data from the module is transferred to the Thingspeak IoT platform to enable remote monitoring of body temperature. It is observed that the proposed RFID-based embedded system is a costeffective, non-contact, and remote monitoring solution to enhance the safety of people in the working environment. © 2023 IEEE.

This work presents the design and development of an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID sensor tag for continuous temperature monitoring in switchgear substations. The tag antenna of dimension, 69 x 15 mm2 designed on a 1.52 mm thick FR-4 substrate using EM simulation software HFSS®, Ansys Inc., USA, achieved a gain of 1.8 dBi at 915 MHz. Simulation and measurement results demonstrated a reflection coefficient of - 13.76 dB and -12.26 dB, respectively, with a maximum read rate of 1.5 m. Real-time temperature measurement under actual switchgear conditions validated the sensor's suitability for condition monitoring applications. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an MPC based control for a DC microgrid consisting of PV and battery bank connected to the main grid under practical ambient conditions with varying irradiance and varying ambient temperature. Fluctuating output from renewable energy is considered, and the battery is connected through a bidirectional converter for which predictive control is developed considering SOC, maximum and minimum current capability, and bus voltage. The objective is to maintain DC bus voltage precisely under varying load conditions. The performance of the MPC based control is also investigated for the system working under both, grid-tied and islanded modes. The performance of the proposed MPC based control is also compared with the traditional PI control and found superior under different conditions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

As industries rapidly advance towards Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), the integration of automation and digitalization has brought unprecedented efficiency gains to various sectors. Among the critical components of Industry 4.0, belt conveyors play a pivotal role in streamlining material handling processes. Many crucial parameters in the Industrial Conveyor system require constant attention and monitoring. However, this integration of digital systems also exposes these conveyor systems to new vulnerabilities, notably cyber-attacks. This paper, investigate the potential impacts of availability attack on Industrial Conveyor system. The study employs a multi-faceted approach, combining cyber-physical experiments and simulations. Black holes and jamming attacks are considered, targeting the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) of the Industrial conveyor system. A highly miniaturized bandpass filter with quad-band response is demonstrated in this article. The proposed quad-band bandpass filter has a novel topology comprising series quarter wavelength transmission lines loaded with tri-stepped impedance open-ended resonators and a dual-stepped impedance short-ended resonator. The proposed quad-band bandpass filter configuration is validated by theoretically verifying the transmission zeros and pole frequencies using even-odd mode analysis. A prototype operating at 0.475 GHz, 1.695 GHz, 3.48 GHz, and 4.53 GHz is designed, implemented, and experimented. The tested insertion losses at these center frequencies are 0.38 dB, 0.71 dB, 1.03 dB, and 1.22 dB, and the return loss is better than 10 dB in each passband. Each passband is isolated by a transmission zero with a rejection better than 40 dB. The proposed quad-band filter occupies a compact size of 0.146 × 0.087λ2g and is distinguished by its high compactness, wide bandwidth, multiple transmission zeros and poles, and high performance compared to benchmark designs making it more suitable for multi-band wireless applications. © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. This paper represents a concise survey of different unmanned underwater vehicles, commonly known as UUV. These unmanned vehicles are classified into two categories, one is a Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) and another is an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). In this survey paper, the survey is concentrated into different types of ROVs and AUVs and the functionality of these vehicles. The material classification and components used to construct any underwater vehicle and different fundamental aspects of AUV design are also briefly described. A brief progress work over the years on different types of unmanned underwater vehicles is done to understand the progression of these underwater robots. Vector controlled induction motors (IMs) are used in electric vehicles (EVs) for effective speed control. The use of three-level inverter (3LI) offers the advantage of reduced switch stress along with lower total harmonic distortion in voltage (THDv) over two-level inverters. An indirect current vector control (ICVC) scheme has one proportional-integral (PI) controller for speed control of EV. The selection of controller coefficients affects the performance of complete drive. Therefore, this paper uses particle swarm optimisation technique for optimum selection of controller coefficients used for the control of CHB3LI fed IM drive. This drive is tested under CBD, COMMUTER, and EU driving cycles on three torque loadings through simulation in MATLAB Simulink and validated experimentally on a reduced scale laboratory setup. The obtained results are presented to demonstrate desired performance under all the driving cycles for optimised controller coefficients along with improved THDv and reduced losses in the IM.
