Iterative learning control (ILC) applies to situations when a system performs a tracking maneuver repeatedly. The error each run is used to adjust the command in the next run, aiming to converge to zero error. Spacecraft applications include making fine pointing equipment follow a precise scan pattern in spite of flexibility effects. Effective ILC design methods are available for linear systems. An important issue is that ILC may reach act uator saturation limits during the iterations with hardware, and then there is no guarantee of convergence. This paper develops ILC methods based on quadratic programming that guarantee convergence under such conditions starting from a feasible trajectory. This paper presents the optimal design of PID controller based on a particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach for position control using spring shape memory alloys (SMA) actuator. The mathematical model of experimental system had been approximate near the operating point for the PSO algorithm to adjust PID parameters for the minimum integrated absolute error (IAE) condition. The results show the adjustment of PID parameters converting into the optimal point and the good control response base on the optimal values by the PSO technique.

We propose a system that can record driving events and detect unsafe driving behaviors. Three sensors, an engine control unit (ECU) reader, a 3-axis accelerometer, and a camera are used, in which they represent the car, the passenger, and the driverpsilas perspective. Our system combines data from these three sensors with a fuzzy inference system to identify an event of hazardous driving. The output of the system is the driving risk level ranging from 1 to 3, where 1 is the safest. The output of the system was verified by comparison with a questionnaire from three passengers in a test run experiment.

In transformer-less fuel-cell energy conversion systems the voltage-gain is required to be as high as possible. Although component parasitic elements limit the practically realizable voltage-gain of any converter topology, this becomes a critical issue in the case of the basic step-up converter. In this paper, a comparative evaluation of two high-voltage-gain interleaved step-up derived converter topologies suitable for fuel-cell applications is documented. Both converter topologies offer lower input-current/output-voltage ripple and lower voltage/current ratings of the various circuit elements when compared to the basic step-up topology. Analysis and simulation results are provided and experimental results taken from low power laboratory prototypes are presented.

This paper presents a new coding technique for fingerprint compression, which is based on contourlet transform and Self-Organizing Feature Map (SOFM) vector quantization. One of the main difficulties in developing compression algorithms for fingerprints resides in the need for preserving the minutiae, which are subsequently used in identification. Wavelets have shown their ability in representing natural images that contain smooth areas separated with edges. However, wavelets cannot efficiently represent the ridge and furrow patterns, which are predominant in fingerprints. This issue is addressed by directional transforms, known as contourlets, which have the property of preserving edges. SOFM based vector quantizer quantizes the coefficients obtained by contourlet transform. The results obtained are tabulated and compared with those of the wavelet based ones. © 2007 JD.

The paper proposes a new topology for photovoltaic dc/dc converter with high efficiency under wide input voltage range is proposed. Photovoltaic dc/dc is a very crucial part of power conditioning system(PCS). Considering that output characteristic of photovoltaic cell has wide voltage range, depending on the operating conditions of photovoltaic cell, the dc/dc converter also needs to have wide input voltage range to regulate the constant output voltage. In addition, a high rated voltage of power switch(MOSFET) for dc/dc converter is necessary in order to be compatible with the high maximum output voltage of photovoltaic cell's maximum output voltage. Also photovoltaic power conditioning system should have a high efficiency under operation condition. To satisfy PV PCS condition series connected non-isolated dc/dc converter topology is proposed. This paper examines the proposed topology employing four modules and shows that it dramatically enhances the energy efficiency from low load to high load condition by reducing the required power level for dc/dc converter by one-third of conventional dc/dc converter. A case of 25kW prototype as the PV dc/dc converter is introduced to experimentally verify the proposed topology. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a pineapple skin model and a method to fit the model. Our main application of the model is for automatic maturity grading of pineapples in canned pineapple industry. The model consists of two subparts: Phyllotaxis and pineapple scale models. The Phyllotaxis model represents the spiral arrangement of pineapple-scales, which is a growing pattern of the fruit. It includes a string of scale-model cells. The scale model includes boundary, internal area and petal part of scale. Modified snake algorithm is used to construct the structure model while Active Shape Model (ASM) is applied to each scale. The model can accurately fit to pineapple skins in our experiment and classification features of the fruit can be extracted.

This paper describes the control and regulation of input DC voltages of nine-level NPC voltage source inverter. The analysis and simulation of a cascade constituted by three phase's five-level PWM rectifier-nine levels NPC voltage source inverter (VSI). In the first part, the authors present the five-level PWM rectifier. After, we present a topology of nine levels NPC VSI for then we propose a model of this inverter and the SVPWM strategy which uses eight bipolar carriers to control it. The study of this cascade shows that the input DC voltages of the inverter are not stable and not equals. To remedy to this problem, the authors propose to introduce in the cascade a clamping bridge and regulation using PI regulator. In the second part, we study speed control of the Permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) by using the field oriented control. The results obtained are full of promise to use the inverter in high voltage and great power applications as electrical traction.

In this paper, the author's present one algorithm of algebraic PWM strategy for nine - level Neutral Point Clamping (NPC) Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) is presented. This algorithm uses a control model of the inverter developed previously by the authors. In the first part, we develop a working model of this inverter, without presumption on its control, by using the connection functions of this converter. In the second part the control models of this converter by using respectively instantaneous and generating connection functions are reviewed. In the last part, one algebraic PWM control strategy of the inverter is proposed. The behavior of a vehicle is strongly influenced by the distribution of driving and braking torques in four wheels. Therefore, traction and stability characteristics of a vehicle can be controlled by the controlling driveline and the braking torques. However, independent and uncoordinated control of the brake and driveline control system can harm the vehicle performance due to the interference between two devices. So, the vehicle equipped with both the brake control system and the driveline control system requires a coordinated control of both systems to reduce the bad interference and to maximize vehicle performance. This paper presents the procedure of the coordinated control design of the brake and driveline control systems. The 2 degree of freedom (DOF) vehicle model and the driveline model including torque biasing devices are developed. Each control algorithm for the ESP and the coupling (the target torque biasing device) are developed based on the models. Finally, the coordinated control is designed to maximize the yaw stability of the vehicle. The developed models and the control algorithms are programmed using Matlab/Simulink and verified by co-simulation with a commercial vehicle simulation tool, CarSim.
