This paper presents the development and features of a Scilab based user-friendly CSIT (controlsystems Interactive Tool). It is an Open Source Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool that contains basic functions to learn and analyze controlsystems at undergraduate and graduate levels. Using this tool, one can compare the system plots and parameters of different systems in time and frequency domains. The tool also supports a “know concept” button, represented in the form of “?” symbol adjacent to the function to display the concept related to the function. A student is not required to learn any programming language to use this tool.

This paper describes wireless control and automation of various processes in paper mills using CC3200. Embedded web server is preferred over PC server in case of internet applications based on client/server architecture for its decreasing size, cost and power consumption. CC3200 has an exclusive feature of low power consumption which makes it convenient for use in industries. A user-friendly webpage interface node-red is introduced to the users and system administrators to locally (LAN) or remotely (internet) manage and control the processes. Email alerts are sent to the users in case of faults and intelligent algorithms can be implemented to rectify the faults which improves the efficiency of the system.

This paper presents the kinematic modeling and analysis of a gravity balanced 3T1R parallel mechanism with actuation redundancy. The screw theory is employed for Jacobian derivation and singularity analysis. Actuation redundancy is introduced to eliminate forward kinematic singularities. Moreover, three load redistribution algorithms employing redundant actuation to avoid torque saturation are presented and the comparison analysis shows through simulation study that the newly suggested algorithm considering a relaxed form of torque limit has several advantageous features in comparison to other load distribution algorithms.

Cell sheet has been applied in regenerative medicine by growing tissues and then implanting them when the body cannot heal itself. Manufacturing of cell sheet requires stacking process of monolayer cell sheet to form multi-layer tissue. The aim of study was to offer automation system for fabrication of functional tissues by stacking cell sheet. Pushing down force, position movement, and responsive temperature were studied. An automation system was designed to handle with 12 mm in diameter and 50 μm thickness of cell sheets. Each cell sheet was attached by thermo responsive surface up to maximum 6-layer. The results showed that stack cell sheets could be constructed, strained by hematoxylin and eosin, and investigated by microscope.

This paper introduces a novel kinematically redundant five-degree-of-freedom (DOF) parallel mechanism (PM) which can be fully gravity balanced. The kinematic redundancy can be used to generate large rotational workspace or perform auxiliary grasping task. The grasping task is selected as an example to be investigated in this work. Firstly, description of structure and principle of gravity balancing are introduced. Secondly, closed-form inverse and forward kinematic models are presented in detail. Thirdly, an example trajectory that includes the auxiliary grasping task is demonstrated using a commercially available multi-body dynamic simulator. Analysis results show that the proposed PM has quite a few potential applications.

The data recorded in industry for rotating machine health monitoring are often a large number and unlabelled. It is impractical to label these data manually. Traditionally unsupervised algorithms have been applied to address this challenge. In the situation where relevant features are included or when the features are not selected properly, it could lead to poorly-separated clusters and deteriorate the clustering performance. It is of interest to investigate the performance of clustering techniques in these circumstances. This paper aims to provide a comparative study and investigation of three well-known clustering techniques, i.e. the k-means clustering algorithm, hierarchical clustering algorithm and expectation-maximisation (EM) clustering algorithm, combined with Calinski-Harabasz index, Davies-Bouldin index, Gap value index, and Silhouette index for determining the number of clusters for both well- and poorly-separated clusters. The experimental results on two real bearing datasets show that the expectation-maximisation (EM) clustering algorithm combined with the Gap value index is the most efficient and robust method to determine the optimal number of clusters in the dataset and classify the unlabelled data.

The article deals with the creation of a simulation model which serves to create the coordination bonds among three discrete transport processes. The simulation model was created in the software Witness 2008. The verification and validation of the simulation model was performed using data obtained from real traffic. The experiment was carried out with a valid model, which allowed the solutions used to create the coordination bonds between particular transport processes.
