The present paper aims at validating a Model Predictive control(MPC),based on the Mixed Logical Dynamical(MLD)model,for Hybrid Dynamic systems(HDSs)that explicitly involve continuous dynamics and discrete *** proposed benchmark system is a three-tank process,which is a typical case study of *** MLD-MPC controller is applied to the level control of the considered tank *** study is initially focused on the MLD approach that allows consideration of the interacting continuous dynamics with discrete events and includes the operating *** feature of MLD modeling is very advantageous when an MPC controller synthesis for the HDSs is *** the MLD model of the system is well-posed,then the MPC law synthesis can be developed based on the Mixed Integer Programming(MIP)optimization *** solving this MIP problem,a Branch and Bound(B&B)algorithm is proposed to determine the optimal control ***,a comparative study is carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid controller for the HDSs compared to the standard MPC *** results show that the MLD-MPC approach outperforms the standardMPCone that doesn’t consider the hybrid aspect of the *** paper also shows a behavioral test of the MLDMPC controller against disturbances deemed as liquid leaks from the *** results are very satisfactory and show that the tracking error is minimal less than 0.1%in nominal conditions and less than 0.6%in the presence of *** results confirm the success of the MLD-MPC approach for the control of the HDSs.

The increased adoption of small-scale solar photo-voltaics (PV s) has led to drastic changes in the aggregate load profile in multiple locations, resulting in what is called the 'Duck Curve.' This adds a burden on system operators and might, in fact, jeopardize real-time operations and control. In this paper, we address these issues via learning-based control and develop an online method to flatten the duck curve by optimizing standard-sized batteries. In particular, we use deep learning in conjunction with model predictive control (MPC), i.e., we forecast solar power and demand and then utilize these forecasts to optimize storage over a prediction horizon. In our approach, forecasts take into account behavioral aspects of load consumption, and we also propose an objective function that mimics the Peak-to-Average power ratio. We have conducted numerical experiments using real data, and the results are promising, demonstrating a reduction of about 67% of the Peak-to-Average power ratio. © 2022 IEEE.

Autonomous vehicles stand as a burgeoning technology, evolving across various nations and industries. This research endeavors to develop an automated charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, complementing the smart ecosystem for autonomous vehicle systems. The experimental framework involved a KUKA LBR iiwa 7 robot equipped with a Type- II connector and an Intel Realsense D435i depth camera for detecting the electric vehicle (EV) inlet. The EV inlet detection process initiated with 2D image detection, followed by end effector alignment to the target inlet's center point. Subsequently, depth image information facilitated the forward movement essential for the charging process. This technique's efficacy heavily relies on precise horizontal and vertical alignment with the EV socket, as minor misalignments could potentially compromise the robot's functionality. To ensure safety and prevent any instances of collision, torque sensors integrated into the KUKA robot played a pivotal role. Their implementation served as a safeguard against harm to the robot, emphasizing the criticality of safety measures in this automated charging system.

This work derives the closed-form solution of the switching function for a DC-DC buck converter under Pon-tryagin's maximum principle to gain insights into the circuit parameters impact on the converters' dynamic performance. We also analyzed the boost converter switching function under the same principle. Using MatLab/Simulink to simulate typical converters, the results matched our analysis while suggesting that boost converters could achieve time-optimal states transition within a single switching similar to the case of buck converters. © 2022 IEEE.

Faults are common and potentially dangerous problems in low-voltage power system networks, e.g., distribution networks. Upon discovery, they must be dealt with immediately to prevent further damage to the distribution system and quickly return electricity to consumers. This paper proposes a hybrid fault diagnosis method combining a signal processing technique with deep learning models. Faults are applied in a four-node test distribution feeder developed using MATLAB and Simulink. Different measurement noise levels are implemented, along with varying load and fault parameters. The short-time Fourier transform (STFT) is used on the feeder's current signals as a feature extraction tool. These features are then used to train deep learning models to detect, classify, and locate faults. Various parameters of the models are varied to find the optimum ones, which are used to obtain the results. The findings show that the model performed exceptionally well in fault detection and classification and satisfactorily in fault location. © 2023 IEEE.

One of the main concerns in process industry is the level control of nonlinear stochastic processes. Widely used conventional controllers are known for their simple structure but do not address the control issues well. They are not much suitable for controlling nonlinear processes because of tuning associated problems. In this study, a simple and more effective RTDA (Robustness, Setpoint tracking, Disturbance Rejection, Aggressiveness) controller is designed for a nonlinear conical tank system. An empirical model is built using the real time experimental data for two different operating zones of the conical tank. The designed RTDA controller promotes the tuning of controller parameters independently for getting optimum control performance than the conventional controllers. Each tuning parameter strengthens the overall performance of the closed loop system. RTDA controller is compared with PI-IMC and MPC controllers and is proved to be better in all the aspects for the competent closed loop performance. © 2021 IEEE

Renewable resources are adopted nowadays to promote sustainable development, enhance energy security, and build resilient communities. The increase in demand for renewable resources has led to the use of photovoltaic systems. These systems must be efficiently monitored for fault and maintained properly for maximum productivity. Faults like cracks, dust, bird droppings and shadows may arise in the solar panel over a period, reducing the overall performance of photovoltaic systems. These faults can significantly reduce the lifespan of the solar panel. In this paper, voltage, current and surface temperature are measured using sensors from the photovoltaic panel. Real-time data from the solar cell via sensors are collected under no-fault, dust-induced, and partial shading-induced fault conditions. A fault detection methodology for photovoltaic (PV) systems is proposed using a combination of real-time power prediction and classification algorithms. Linear regression is employed to predict the fault. The fault is then classified using a random forest algorithm.

Saudi Arabia has embarked on a transformative journey, transitioning from an oil-centric to an environmentally-focused economy. A recent initiative involves empowering house-holds to generate electricity through small-scale residential rooftop solar photovoltaic systems (RRSPV). Despite this, the uptake of RRSPV deployment remains notably low. Acknowl-edging that the social acceptance of solar energy is pivotal for a successful energy transition, this research explores the acceptance of rooftop solar photovoltaic (RSPV) systems within the residential sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through a comprehensive survey study employing a cross-sectional, web-based pilot survey with 214 participants representing the six main regions of Saudi Arabia, the research sheds light on crucial insights. Results indicate a commendable level of awareness, with 71.4% of respondents familiar with RSPV. Additionally, 66.7% believe RSPV can contribute to achieving the Kingdom's Vision 2030 targets, while 83.8% anticipate benefits such as reduced energy bills and increased energy independence. Key barriers to RSPV adoption include a lack of awareness about local installation companies and uncertainties related to government policies or regulations. These findings provide valuable insights into prevailing sentiments, attitudes, and potential barriers, thereby informing strategies aimed at catalyzing the widespread adoption of sustainable energy solutions in Saudi Arabia. © 2024 IEEE.

This study proposes a distributed Event-triggered fixed-time (ET -FxT) cooperative control strategy for optimizing generation costs in DC Microgrids (MGs), which is subjected to communication resource constraints and input time delays. Initially, Artstein's reduction method was applied to transform the time-delay system into a model without delays, aiming to improve system stability. Following this, an ET -FxT distributed algorithm is introduced for cost minimization, designed to balance the incremental costs (I Cs) of all distributed generators (DGs) within an accelerated settling time, while respecting the bandwidth constraints of communication network. Additionally, a distributed control approach is presented for achieving FxT voltage stability, ensuring a balance between generations and consumptions in the MG. The validity of this control method is demonstrated through numerous comprehensive case studies. © 2024 IEEE.
