This paper introduces a robust controller designed for load frequency control in a dual-area integrated power grid. Here, the suggested controller is a blend of a fuzzy logic controller with an integral controller. The parameters of the integral controller and frequency bias settings are optimized to enhance the dynamic response of the proposed controller. To attain this, three distinct optimization algorithms are employed, i.e., genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, and pattern search. A new objective function using settling time, settling-max, and settling-min with a suitable weight factor is used to improve the parameters estimation process. A comparative analysis is performed using the proposed approach and classical-I controller under two cases considering several load disturbance scenarios. Furthermore, the suggested hybrid controller is evaluated and compared with similar models in the literature. As expected, the proposed controller exhibits superior performance. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper aims at improving the performance of a DC Microgrid System, by introducing different control strategies and testing the performance of each. The components of this system are PV-source, power converters, and storage systems. The overall system will first be designed to be able to test the improvement of using the control strategies. Simulink will be used to implement the system modeling and testing. Different control schemes could be used in this context, such as fuzzy logic controller. © 2023 IEEE.

As the number of vehicles continues to increase every year, it is crucial to monitor traffic conditions effectively. Traffic forecasting serves as a valuable method in traffic management to support decision making. This study investigates the impact of utilizing spatio-Temporal data for traffic flow forecasting, as opposed to forecasting each location individually. We compare spatio-Temporal Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), a machine-learning technique that utilizes spatially correlated sensor data in a network, and compare this to conventional LSTM and Seasonal ARIMA (SARIMA). Experiments have been conducted on counting loop data of a highway network in Belgium. We have investigated the performances of the forecasting model for different prediction horizons. The results show that spatial information improves the performance of the forecasting model and reduces the training time required. Further analysis show that the spatio-Temporal LSTM improves majorities of detectors while the minorities detectors are degraded which imply the importances of network selection. The computational load of the spatio-Temporal LSTM model is minimally impacted by the number of sensors in the network thus making it scalable. The results show that longer prediction horizons degrade the forecasting performance but the impact up to a 12 hour-horizon is not significant. © 2023 IEEE.

Vertical transportation systems, such as elevators and escalators, are essential components of modern infrastructure, necessitating robust safety mechanisms to ensure user well-being. This paper proposes an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system to enhance the safety, monitoring, and efficiency of vertical transport. The system addresses critical issues, such as sudden elevator cable failures leading to entrapment or uncontrolled descent, power losses during operation, and fire hazards caused by material friction. By leveraging IoT technology, the system enables real-time monitoring and immediate notification of potential problems via messaging. The implementation requires components such as ultrasonic sensors, smoke sensors, vibration sensors, microcontrollers, DC motors, batteries, relays, and the UBIDOT application. The resulting system is low-cost, user-friendly, and economically viable, making it accessible to individuals with minimal technical expertise. Furthermore, it is designed for ease of construction and troubleshooting, offering a practical and scalable solution to improve elevator safety and reliability. © 2025 IEEE.

Extended reality (XR) facets aid pupils in understanding difficult topics. Regular education has been reliant on 2D technology for a very long time. It no longer draws in pupils due to its lack of immersion and engagement assistance. The suggested remedy involves using AR to develop 3D models and educational components. The augmented reality (AR) application is more appealing to pupils than other approaches and can be utilized as an interactive tool to clarify difficult concepts in the classroom. The functions of the following human anatomy parts-the brain, heart, and pancreas-were supplied in a piece of note, and audio was added predominately. The 3d models were created using the unity3d application as a support system, and Sketchfab was used to import them. © 2022 IEEE.

Wind power has become increasingly popular due to the demand for sustainable energy sources. A fundamental problem these renewable sources face is the energy cost, thus challenging their efficient operation and maintenance (O&M). Predictive maintenance (PM) has been developed to be an economical solution for the active overcoming of problems, such as wind turbine (WT) gearbox bearing failures that seriously affect the performance and stability of renewable energy systems (RES). This study develops a predictive model of gearbox-bearing temperature using advanced machine learning algorithms such as multiple linear regression (MLR), Extreme Gradient boosting (XGBoost), and Random forest (RF) from the WT supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. The RF model performed better than the MLR and XGBoost model, with an R-squared value of 0.9840, and the Root mean square error (RMSE) and the Mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) were discovered to be 0.7352 and 0.88%, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

The potential of optical wireless communication (OWC) systems for high-speed data transfer, especially over extended distances, is being investigated more and more. However, problems including signal attenuation, dispersion, and noise pose a serious challenge to these systems’ effectiveness as transmission lengths increase. This research examines how an OWC system built using OptiSystem software is affected by different transmission lengths, ranging from 1000 to 3000 km. The results of the investigation show that the Quality Factor (QF) and the Bit Error Rate (BER) have a significant negative connection, with more signal distortion and attenuation occurring at greater distances. While rising noise power—due to attenuation and compensatory noise from optical amplifiers—further degrades signal quality by reducing the Signal-To-Noise Ratio (SNR) and Optical Signal-To-Noise Ratio (OSNR), the eye diagram's narrowing indicates increased pulse broadening and intersymbol interference. Furthermore, timing irregularities, as measured by RMS jitter and peak-to-peak jitter, became larger at greater distances, indicating the detrimental effects of attenuation on signal accuracy. The exponential increase in BER logarithm with distance highlights the increasing error rates. These results highlight the serious problems with long-distance transmission and the need for creative solutions. To further enhance the performance and dependability of high-speed OWC systems over long distances, future research should concentrate on creating sophisticated dispersion compensation algorithms, improving noise control tactics, and investigating adaptive modulation schemes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Recently, interest has increased in the flexibility of silicon-integrated photonic system design with the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) advancements, which enables low-cost and large-scale production. The photonic switch is an essential component of optoelectronic microchips, with widespread applications in fibre optic telecommunications and communication systems, optical data storage, and monitoring devices like LiDAR. Most silicon-integrated photonic switches use either the thermo-optical or scattering effect in transmission to send signals in different ways. However, the transmission scattering phenomenon is limited by a negligible change in refractive index, while the thermo-optical action results in significant energy consumption. These effects are inefficient as they require continuous power consumption, even when toggling is unnecessary. Phase-change metals (PCMs) were implemented into silicon-integrated optic switching as a means of addressing such limitations. In this study, we categorised silicon-integrated optical switches by their internal mechanisms and discussed the most advanced literature on the subject. We additionally take a look at the latest research on PCM-integrated optical switches built on silicon. There is also a comparison and discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of embedded optical switches that either utilize or do not use PCMs. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

With the increasing demand to provide green and efficient energy with an Inexhaustible source like the sun, we decided to get benefit by using the solar panel at the top of the car. Saudi Arabia is considered one of the countries that have hot weather, and that causes lots of problems during office hours, damaging car's accessories and burning of combustible material like batteries. In this work, we propose a coolant system for a car when parking under the sun. The work tries to give a design of the proposed system with a brief description of each part of the project like the solar panel, and the most suitable type for our project, the water radiator that is the future of the AC. © 2022 IEEE.
