Site-specific condition evaluation for managed aquifer recharge (MAR) site selection in granitic aquifers, Ghana

Water has prominence over all the usable natural resources to humankind due to its very significance to human life. Approximately, 70% of Ghana’s populace relies on groundwater exploitation for freshwater consumption. Managed aquifer recharge is capable of sustaining water resources for all livelihood activities. Underperformance of MAR systems is often due to site-specific hydrogeological conditions turning out to be less favorable than anticipated. This study evaluates the site-specific conditions for MAR sites identification in granitic aquifers, integrating in situ hydrogeological factors and GIS-MCDA. One hundred and twenty-one datasets from different boreholes comprising hydro geophysics, borehole drilling and pump test reports were used. The constraint mapping results indicate 92% suitable for MAR application within the study area, implying available enormous bare lands for flooding recharge technique. The suitability analysis discloses that 48 and 51% of the studied area fall within very high and high suitable zones, respectively, showing convincing and great potential to support infiltration ponds for MAR technology application. The valuable information provided through this study can serve as a guide for MAR implementation and for sustainable groundwater resources management within the Upper East region of Ghana. © 2024 The Authors.

Electrical stimulation has recently received attention as noninvasive treatment in skin wound healing with its outstanding biological property for clinical ***,the complexity of equipment for applying appropriate electrical stimulation remains an ongoing ***,we proposed a strategy for skin scar inhibition by providing electrical stimulation via a multilayer stacked electret(MS-electret),which can generate direct current(DC)electric field(EF)without any power supply *** addition,the MS-electret can easily control the intensity of EFs by simply stacking electret layers and maintain stable EF with the surface potential of 3400 V over 5 days owing to the injected charges on the electret *** confirmed inhibition of type 1 collagen andα-SMA expression of human dermal fibroblasts(hDFs)by 90%and 44%in vitro,indicating that the transition of hDFs to myofibroblasts was restricted by applying stable electrical *** further revealed a 20%significant decrease in the ratio of myofibroblasts caused by the MS-electret in *** findings present that the MS-electret is an outstanding candidate for effective skin scar inhibition with a battery-free,physiological electrical microenvironment,and noninvasive treatment that allows it to prevent external infection.

Mismanagement of water resources is one of the most pressing issues in developing countries like Pakistan. With the burgeoning population growth and migration to urban spaces for economic opportunities, freshwater resources are becoming highly stressed and polluted. In this paper, we present the design of a cost effective low power flowmeter with embedded intelligence and remote telemetry for urban residential water metering applications. The study provides fundamental architecture of water metering IoT node and necessary details of implementation. Results of the study are presented in terms of power consumption, accuracy and reliability of device in lab and in field setting. The proposed system could assist developing cities in estimating realistic water demand and creating sustainable socio-political urban water policies at the decision-making level. © 2022 IEEE.

This study aims to categorize many 'actions' types presented in the comprehensive dataset, known as 'Internet Firewall Data.' We employed this dataset to train and assess several models, including KNN, NB, RF, DL, and DT, aiming to identify a highly accurate classification model for firewall log data. Through 10-fold cross-validation, we determined that the RF and DT models achieved robust performance, with accuracies of 99.86% and 99.85%, respectively. Moreover, the NB and DT models exhibited the quickest processing times, measured at 0.22 s and 0.35 s, respectively. These findings underscore the substantial impact of reducing the number of 'actions' on the model's capacity for discernment and precision. This paper offers insights and recommendations valuable to both cybersecurity professionals and researchers, advocating for the consolidation of firewall action groups to enhance manageability. Simplifying firewall configurations not only bolsters security but also diminishes operational complexities. © 2024 IEEE.

Autonomously self-healing, reversible, and soft adhesive microarchitecturesand structured electric elements could be important features in stable and versatilebioelectronic devices adhere to complex surfaces of the human body(rough, dry, wet, and vulnerable). In this study, we propose an autonomousself-healing multi-layered adhesive patch inspired by the octopus, which possessself-healing and robust adhesion properties in dry/underwater *** implement autonomously self-healing octopus-inspired architectures, adynamic polymer reflow model based on structural and material design suggestscriteria for three-dimensional patterning self-healing elastomers. In addition,self-healing multi-layered microstructures with different moduli endowsefficient self-healing ability, human-friendly reversible bio-adhesion, and stablemechanical deformability. Through programmed molecular behavior ofmicrolevel hybrid multiscale architectures, the bioinspired adhesive patchexhibited robust adhesion against rough skin surface under both dry andunderwater conditions while enabling autonomous adhesion restoring performanceafter damaged (over 95% healing efficiency under both conditions for24 h at 30℃). Finally, we developed a self-healing skin-mountable adhesiveelectronics with repeated attachment and minimal skin irritation by laminatingthin gold electrodes on octopus-like structures. Based on the robust adhesionand intimate contact with skin, we successfully obtained reliable measurements during dynamic motion under dry, wet, and damagedconditions.

The issue of dust and smoke resulting from forest fires in northern Thailand. This is caused by people burning the forest to get forest products. Individuals can start forest fires by intentionally burning the forest to extract forest resources. Deforestation negatively affects the well-being of vulnerable patients and has repercussions on public health. The decrease in tourist numbers impacts the economy. Individuals setting fire to the forest to gather forest resources impact government and public sector connections. The education sector has implemented many strategies to educate and mitigate forest fires. There is a fire suppression system. Remove garbage, leaves, and branches that are flammable. However, forest fires remain a concern. Collaboration among three entities in the community can aid in preventing unauthorized forest fires through communal procedures. From multiple ministries, the local organization department, and the central government Collaborating to safeguard Forest fire suppression and afforestation This study is a component of the forest fire surveillance division. If the forest fire's location is not clearly indicated, participating in combined operations will lead to issues because of the overlap in operational responsibilities. Previously, thermal imaging satellites were utilized for coordinate determination. If the satellite completes two orbits each day and identifies a hot location, it initiates a forest fire. Firefighters cannot reach the area to put out forest fires;thus, they need to enter from a nearby, accessible location. Joining the forest fire prevention volunteer organization is challenging and will require approximately 24 to 25 hours. This study aims to conserve energy by utilizing an loT system that transmits peer-to-peer signals. Individuals are prepared to dismantle this system. Oxygen redox is considered a new paradigm for increasing the practical capacity and energy density of the layered oxide cathodes for Na-ion batteries. However, severe local structural changes and phase transitions during anionic redox reactions lead to poor electrochemical performance with sluggish ***, we propose a synergy of Li-Cu cations in harnessing the full potential of oxygen redox, through Li displacement and suppressed phase transition in P3-type layered oxide cathode. P3-type Na_(0.7)[Li_(0.1)Cu_(0.2)Mn_(0.7)]O_(2) cathode delivers a large specific capacity of ~212 mA h g^(-1)at 15 mA g^(-1). The discharge capacity is maintained up to ~90% of the initial capacity after 100 cycles, with stable occurrence of the oxygen redox in the high-voltage region. Through advanced experimental analyses and first-principles calculations, it is confirmed that a stepwise redox reaction based on Cu and O ions occurs for the charge-compensation mechanism upon charging. Based on a concrete understanding of the reaction mechanism, the Li displacement by the synergy of Li-Cu cations plays a crucial role in suppressing the structural change of the P3-type layered material under the oxygen redox reaction, and it is expected to be an effective strategy for stabilizing the oxygen redox in the layered oxides of Na-ion batteries.

The purpose of this research was to study the behavior of battery management systems (BMS) and to study the effect of charge and discharge of batteries using BMS with and without Active balancer. 1) Comparison of BMS case behavior and 2) Battery performance when BMS is connected to Active balancer. The experiments were divided into two methods, charge and discharge in the BMS only, and compared with systems with Active balancer, by determining current. Fixed in the experiment at a battery charge of 0.2-1C (1-5A), then the results of the two experiments were compared and analyzed on the advantages and disadvantages of the system. Research has shown that systems with Active balancer have a more significant effect on a battery charge than systems without Active balancer and the most efficient in use at 0.4C (2A). © 2022 IEEE.

Osteochondral tissue is a highly specialized and complex tissue composed of articular cartilage and subchondral bone that are separated by a calcified cartilage *** or gradient scaffolds,often in conjunction with stem cells and growth factors,have been developed to mimic the respective layers for osteochondral defect *** this study,we designed a hyaline cartilage-hypertrophic cartilage bilayer graft(RGD/RGDW)with ***,we demonstrated that RGD peptide-modified chondroitin sulfate cryogel(RGD group)is chondro-conductive and capable of hyaline cartilage ***,we incorporated whitlockite(WH),a Mg^(2+)-containing calcium phosphate,into RGD cryogel(RGDW group)to induce chondrocyte hypertrophy and form collagen X-rich hypertrophic *** is the first study to use WH to produce hypertrophic ***-laden RGDW cryogel exhibited significantly upregulated expression of hypertrophy markers in vitro and formed ectopic hypertrophic cartilage in vivo,which mineralized into calcified cartilage in bone ***,RGD cryogel and RGDW cryogel were combined into bilayer(RGD/RGDW group)and implanted into rabbit osteochondral defect,where RGD layer supports hyaline cartilage regeneration and bioceramic-containing RGDW layer promotes calcified cartilage *** the RGD group(monolayer)formed hyaline-like neotissue that extends into the subchondral bone,the RGD/RGDW group(bilayer)regenerated hyaline cartilage tissue confined to its respective layer and promoted osseointegration for integrative defect repair.
