This paper introduces WeBikes, an open-source simulation element for the Webots robot simulation software that allows users to easily simulate the dynamics of bicycles and motorcycles. WeBikes allows users to configure the dimensional, inertial, and visual properties of a two-wheeled vehicle. Open-loop comparisons between the WeBikes vehicle’s behavior and a canonical linear model of single-track vehicle dynamics show that WeBikes captures the self-stabilization behavior of two wheeled vehicles as predicted by the linear model. Additionally, the WeBikes add-on includes a simple virtual rider that stabilizes the vehicle using optimal linear feedback control. Comparisons between the closed-loop behavior of the WeBikes vehicle and the linear model show strong agreement, which indicates that under the direction of a virtual rider, the WeBikes vehicle can be used to simulate a vehicle-rider system navigating a roadway. Finally, a simple case study demonstrates how WeBikes can be used in a road safety simulation context. The case study explores how a motorcycle-rider system behaves when performing a lane change between lanes of disparate heights, illustrating how WeBikes can provide insight into the interaction between single-track vehicle behavior and geometric roadway design. © 2024, Aracne Editrice. Ultralong thermally activated delayed fluorescence(UTADF)materials play an important role in realizing time-dependent color-tunable *** typical carbazole(Cz)derivatives have been reported to exhibit UTADF ***,a 10-fold difference in TADF lifetime was found between commercial Cz derivatives and the corresponding lab-synthesized ones,which indicated that UTADF may not be derived from the single Cz derivatives as *** reveal the real mechanism,we synthesized three Cz derivatives and one isomer to form three host-guest pairs for optical *** photophysical properties revealed that UTADF originated from the intermolecular charge transfer between host and guest,while the ultralong organic phosphorescence was from the *** to the rich color variations in luminescence displayed by 4-(1H-benzo[f]indol-1-yl)−4′-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]−3,3′-dicarbonitrile/4,4′-di(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]−3,3′-dicarbonitrile(CBP-2CN)at different delay times,it can be applied to realize multi-dimensional encryption in both delay time and luminescent color.

Wearable sensors have drawn vast interest for their convenience to be worn on body to monitor and track body movements or exercise activities in real ***,wearable electronics rely on powering systems to ***,a self-powered,porous,flexible,hydrophobic and breathable nanofibrous membrane based on electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)nanofiber has been developed as a tactile sensor with low-cost and simple fabrication for human body motion detection and ***,effects of multi-walled carbon nanotubes(CNT)and barium titanate(BTO)as additives to the fiber morphology as well as mechanical and dielectric properties of the piezoelectric nanofiber membrane were *** fabricated BTO@PVDF piezoelectric nanogenerator(PENG)exhibits the highβ-phase content and best overall electrical performances,thus selected for the flexible sensing device ***,the nanofibrous membrane demonstrated robust tactile sensing performance that the device exhibits durability over 12,000 loading test cycles,holds a fast response time of 82.7 ms,responds to a wide pressure range of 0-5 bar and shows a high relative sensitivity,especially in the small force range of 11.6 V/bar upon pressure applied perpendicular to the ***,when attached on human body,its unique fibrous and flexible structure offers the tactile sensor to present as a health care monitor in a self-powered manner by translating motions of different movements to electrical signals with various patterns or sequences.

Desiccant-coated heat exchangers (DCHEs) enable energy-efficient dehumidification, alleviating the overall heat load on vapor compression refrigeration systems. However, conventional desiccants have limited water uptake capacities and high regeneration temperature requirements. This work presents ternary composite desiccants comprising the metal-organic framework, MIL-101(Cr) (where MIL denotes Materials Institute Lavoisier), the superabsorbent polymer polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and hygroscopic salts for enhanced moisture sorption. Gravimetric water sorption analyses revealed that desiccants containing lithium chloride (LiCl) attained water uptakes greater than their calcium chloride- and copper (II) sulfate-containing counterparts. Subsequent cyclic tests identified the optimal MIL-101(Cr)/PVA/LiCl composite that adsorbed and desorbed moisture readily. From its water sorption isotherm, the 3MIL-101(Cr)/1PVA/1 LiCl desiccant has a water uptake capacity of 2.49g {water} g desiccant-1 - nearly double that of MIL-101(Cr) and more than nine times that of silica gel. When coated onto a prototype heat exchanger, the 3MIL-101(Cr)/1PVA/1 LiCl composite demonstrated a gravimetric water uptake more than double that of the silica gel-coated control across three adsorption-desorption cycles. Moreover, low-grade waste heat of 50°C could partially regenerate these DCHEs, leaving behind residual moisture of less than 0.5g{water} gdesiccant-1. Consequently, the 3MIL-101(Cr)/1PVA/1LiCl-coated heat exchangers are effective dehumidifiers for addressing the latent heat load towards energy savings in cooling systems. © 2024 IEEE.

SARS-CoV2 Nsp3 protein triggers cell death and exacerbates amyloid β42-mediated neurodegeneration

Infection caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV2)virus,responsible for the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,induces symptoms including increased inflammatory response,severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS),cognitive dysfunction like brain fog,and cardiovascular ***-term effects of SARS-CoV2 COVID-19 syndrome referred to as post-COVID-19 syndrome on age-related progressive neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease remain *** the targeted misexpression of individual SARS-CoV2 proteins in the retinal neurons of the Drosophila melanogaster eye,we found that misexpression of nonstructural protein 3(Nsp3),a papain-like protease,ablates the eye and generates dark necrotic *** misexpression of Nsp3 in the eye triggers reactive oxygen species production and leads to apoptosis as shown by cell death reporters,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase(TdT)dUTP Nick-end labeling(TUNEL)assay,and dihydroethidium ***,Nsp3 misexpression activates both apoptosis and autophagy mechanism(s)to regulate tissue *** expression of SARS-CoV2 Nsp3 in murine neuroblastoma,Neuro-2a cells,significantly reduced the metabolic activity of these cells and triggers cell *** of SARS-CoV2 Nsp3 in an Alzheimer's disease transgenic fly eye model(glass multiple repeats[GMR]>amyloidβ42)further enhances the neurodegenerative rough eye phenotype due to increased cell *** findings suggest that SARS-CoV2 utilizes Nsp3 protein to potentiate cell death response in a neurodegenerative disease background that has high pre-existing levels of neuroinflammation and cell death.

This study proposed a novel extraction method of c-Fos protein regions in DAB(3,3'-diaminobenzidine)-stained mouse brain slice images using the U-Net model combined with the multi-channelization and 1×1 convolution techniques. Our U-Net m odel, called 1× 1 conv U-Net, was applied to three DAB- strainedmouse slice images whose resolutions were 1000x1000 pixels. The experimental results demonstrated that the 1×1 conv U-Net outperformed the conventional U-Net. © 2024 IEEE.

Heavy crude oil(HCO)production,processing,and transportation forms several practical challenges to the oil and gas industry,due to its higher *** the shear rheology of this HCO is highly important to tackle production and flow *** environmental and economic viability of the conventional methods(thermal or dilution with organic solvents),force the industry to find an *** present study was constructed to investigate the effect of eco-friendly ionic liquids(ILs)on the HCO's rheology,at high temperature and high *** different alkyl ammonium ILs were screened for HCO's shear rheology at the temperatures of 25-100℃ and for pressures 0.1e10 *** addition of ILs reduced the HCO's viscosity substantially from 25 to 33%from their original HCO ***,it aids to reduce the yield stress to about 15-20%at all the studied experimental ***,the viscoelastic property of the HCO was studied for both strain-sweep and frequencysweep and noticed the ILs helps to increase HCO's loss modulus(G00)by reducing storage modulus(G0),it leads to the reduction of the crossover point around 25-32%than the standard *** the ILs addition with HCO converts its solid-like nature into liquid-like ***,the effect ILs chain length was also studied and found the ILs which has lengthier chain length shows better efficiency on the ***,the microscopic investigation of the HCO sample was analyzed with and without ILs and witnessed that these ILs help to fragment the flocculated HCO into smaller *** findings indicate that the ILs could be considered as the better alternative for efficient oil production,processing,and transportation.

Expanding chiral metamaterials for retrieving fingerprints via vibrational circular dichroism

Circular dichroism(CD)spectroscopy has been widely demonstrated for detecting chiral ***,the determination of chiral mixtures with various concentrations and enantiomeric ratios can be a challenging *** solve this problem,we report an enhanced vibrational circular dichroism(VCD)sensing platform based on plasmonic chiral metamaterials,which presents a 6-magnitude signal enhancement with a selectivity of chiral *** by coupled-mode theory,we leverage both in-plane and out-of-plane symmetry-breaking structures for chiral metamaterial design enabled by a two-step lithography process,which increases the near-field coupling strengths and varies the ratio between absorption and radiation loss,resulting in improved chiral light-matter interaction and enhanced molecular VCD ***,we demonstrate the thin-film sensing process of BSA andβ-lactoglobulin proteins,which contain secondary structures a-helix andβ-sheet and achieve a limit of detection down to zeptomole ***,we also,for the first time,explore the potential of enhanced VCD spectroscopy by demonstrating a selective sensing process of chiral mixtures,where the mixing ratio can be successfully differentiated with our proposed chiral *** findings improve the sensing signal of molecules and expand the extractable information,paving the way toward label-free,compact,small-volume chiral molecule detection for stereochemical and clinical diagnosisapplications.
