An Adaptive Decision-Making Approach for Better Selection of Blockchain Platform for Health Insurance Frauds Detection with Smart Contracts: Development and Performance Evaluation

Blockchain technology has piqued the interest of businesses of all types, while consistently improving and adapting to business requirements. Several blockchain platforms have emerged, making it challenging to select a suitable one for a specific type of business. This paper presents a classification of over one hundred blockchain platforms. We develop smart contracts for detecting healthcare insurance frauds using the top two blockchain platforms selected based on our proposed decision-making map approach which selects the top suitable platforms for healthcare insurance frauds detection application. Our classification shows that the largest percentage of platforms can be used for all types of application domains, the second biggest percentage for financial services, and a small number is to develop applications in specific domains. Our decision-making map and performance evaluations reveal that Hyperledger Fabric surpassed Neo in all metrics for detecting healthcare insurance frauds.

Cognitive Disentanglement for Referring Multi-Object Tracking

As a significant application of multi-source information fusion in intelligent transportation perception systems, Referring Multi-Object Tracking (RMOT) involves localizing and tracking specific objects in video sequences based on language references. However, existing RMOT approaches often treat language descriptions as holistic embeddings and struggle to effectively integrate the rich semantic information contained in language expressions with visual features. This limitation is especially apparent in complex scenes requiring comprehensive understanding of both static object attributes and spatial motion information. In this paper, we propose a Cognitive Disentanglement for Referring Multi-Object Tracking (CDRMT) framework that addresses these challenges. It adapts the "what" and "where" pathways from human visual processing system to RMOT tasks. Specifically, our framework comprises three collaborative components: (1)The Bidirectional Interactive Fusion module first establishes cross-modal connections while preserving modality-specific characteristics;(2) Building upon this foundation, the Progressive Semantic-Decoupled Query Learning mechanism hierarchically injects complementary information into object queries, progressively refining object understanding from coarse to fine-grained semantic levels;(3) Finally, the Structural Consensus Constraint enforces bidirectional semantic consistency between visual features and language descriptions, ensuring that tracked objects faithfully reflect the referring expression. Extensive experiments on different benchmark datasets demonstrate that CDRMT achieves substantial improvements over state-of-the-art methods, with average gains of 6.0% in HOTA score on Refer-KITTI and 3.2% on Refer-KITTI-V2. Our approach advances the state-of-the-art in RMOT while simultaneously providing new insights into multi-source information fusion. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Semen quality assessment is a very important tool for the timely detection and treatment of infertility disorders. Many artificial intelligence methods for sperm image analysis have emerged in recent years. Sperm detection in sperm microscopy is the first step in semen quality assessment. However, the acquisition of sperm electron microscopy images can produce a variety of different background lighting situations. The performance of established methods is susceptible to changes in background illumination. Therefore, a sperm detection method with heterogeneous Laplacian distribution noise background modeling (HLDNBM) is proposed. In this paper the method uses background illumination surface fitting to eliminate the effect of illumination in a single sperm image, and realizes the segmentation of sperm head and sperm tail with different grayscale by upper and lower segmentation threshold surfaces to achieve complete sperm image segmentation and multi-target detection in a single image. This method effectively avoids the degradation of target detection performance caused by sudden changes in illumination in other background modeling methods. Moreover, this method shows strong adaptability for images with different lighting backgrounds, and is friendly to small datasets as well. The experimental results show that the accuracy and sensitivity of the algorithm for sperm detection in images with different grayscale characteristics are very promising, with high universality and robustness.

Detecting Adversarial Data by Probing Multiple Perturbations Using Expected Perturbation Score

Adversarial detection aims to determine whether a given sample is an adversarial one based on the discrepancy between natural and adversarial distributions. Unfortunately, estimating or comparing two data distributions is extremely difficult, especially in high-dimension spaces. Recently, the gradient of log probability density (a.k.a., score) w.r.t. the sample is used as an alternative statistic to compute. However, we find that the score is sensitive in identifying adversarial samples due to insufficient information with one sample only. In this paper, we propose a new statistic called expected perturbation score (EPS), which is essentially the expected score of a sample after various perturbations. Specifically, to obtain adequate information regarding one sample, we perturb it by adding various noises to capture its multi-view observations. We theoretically prove that EPS is a proper statistic to compute the discrepancy between two samples under mild conditions. In practice, we can use a pre-trained diffusion model to estimate EPS for each sample. Last, we propose an EPS-based adversarial detection (EPSAD) method, in which we develop EPS-based maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) as a metric to measure the discrepancy between the test sample and natural samples. We also prove that the EPS-based MMD between natural and adversarial samples is larger than that among natural samples. In mobile edge computing (MEC), task offloading can significantly reduce task execution latency and energy consumption of end user (EU). However, edge server (ES) resources are limited, necessitating efficient allocation to ensure the sustainable and healthy development for MEC system. In this paper, we propose a dynamic pricing mechanism based near-optimal resource allocation for elastic edge offloading. First, we construct a resource pricing model and accordingly develop the utility functions for both EU and ES, the optimal pricing model parameters are derived by optimizing the utility functions. In the meantime, our theoretical analysis reveals that the EU's utility function reaches a local maximum within the search range, but exhibits barely growth with increased resource allocation beyond this point. To this end, we further propose the Dynamic Inertia and Speed-Constrained particle swarm optimization (DISC-PSO) algorithm, which efficiently identifies the near-optimal resource allocation. Comprehensive simulation results validate the effectiveness of DISC-PSO algorithm, demonstrating that it significantly outperforms existing schemes by reducing the average number of iterations to reach a near-optimal solution by 86.88%, increasing the EU utility function value by 0.13%, and decreasing the variance of results by 96.78%. © 2025 IEEE. Video super-resolution (VSR) on mobile devices aims to restore high-resolution frames from their low-resolution counterparts, satisfying the requirements of performance, FLOPs and latency. On one hand, partial feature processing, as a classic and acknowledged strategy, is developed in current studies to reach an appropriate trade-off between FLOPs and accuracy. However, the splitting of partial feature processing strategy are usually performed in a blind manner, thereby reducing the computational efficiency and performance gains. On the other hand, current methods for mobile platforms primarily treat VSR as an extension of single-image super-resolution to reduce model calculation and inference latency. However, lacking inter-frame information interaction in current methods results in a suboptimal latency and accuracy trade-off. To this end, we propose a novel architecture, termed Feature Aggregating Network with Inter-frame Interaction (FANI), a lightweight yet considering frame-wise correlation VSR network, which could achieve real-time inference while maintaining superior performance. Our FANI accepts adjacent multi-frame low-resolution images as input and generally consists of several fully-connection-embedded modules, i.e., Multi-stage Partial Feature Distillation (MPFD) for capturing multi-level feature representations. Moreover, considering the importance of inter-frame alignment, we further employ a tiny Attention-based Frame Alignment (AFA) module to promote inter-frame information flow and aggregation efficiently. Extensive experiments on the well-known dataset and real-world mobile device demonstrate the superiority of our proposed FANI, which means that our FANI could be well adapted to mobile devices and produce visually pleasing results.

Robust Generalization against Photon-Limited Corruptions via Worst-Case Sharpness Minimization

Robust generalization aims to tackle the most challenging data distributions which are rare in the training set and contain severe noises, i.e., photon-limited corruptions. Common solutions such as distributionally robust optimization (DRO) focus on the worst-case empirical risk to ensure low training error on the uncommon noisy distributions. However, due to the over-parameterized model being optimized on scarce worst-case data, DRO fails to produce a smooth loss landscape, thus struggling on generalizing well to the test set. Therefore, instead of focusing on the worst-case risk minimization, we propose SharpDRO by penalizing the sharpness of the worst-case distribution, which measures the loss changes around the neighbor of learning parameters. Through worst-case sharpness minimization, the proposed method successfully produces a flat loss curve on the corrupted distributions, thus achieving robust generalization. Moreover, by considering whether the distribution annotation is available, we apply SharpDRO to two problem settings and design a worst-case selection process for robust generalization. Theoretically, we show that SharpDRO has a great convergence guarantee. Experimentally, we simulate photon-limited corruptions using CIFAR10/100 and ImageNet30 datasets and show that SharpDRO exhibits a strong generalization ability against severe corruptions and exceeds well-known baseline methods with large performance gains. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately.

Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. Experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.

Uplink control information (UCI) and discontinuous reception (DRX) play important roles for massive machine type communication (mMTC). Despite their standalone significance, a conspicuous gap exists in comprehensively exploring the synergy between UCI and DRX concerning both energy conservation and latency reduction for mMTC. In this letter, we propose a UCI-based clustered access and DRX management (UCADM) scheme that strikes a balance between these two critical performance metrics, reducing energy usage while preserving low latency in uplink-downlink interaction for mMTC. Specifically, we present a strictly feasible solution for the proposed UCADM scheme by using the spectral radius and the constraint projection, which can effectively solve DRX switching operations as indicated by scheduling information from UCI. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our scheme. © 1997-2012 IEEE.
