Scene text recognition (STR) methods combined with semantic information have made great progress to recognize texts in natural scenes, most of which are daily words. However, research on mining semantic information in industrial texts attracts less attention. Since industrial texts follow a different semantic pattern defined by industry standards, it challenges many existing methods to conduct accurate semantic reasoning. In this paper, we abstract the industry standards into two aspects of prior knowledge: the grouping property and the prior lexicon. Correspondingly, a knowledge-based language model is proposed with several group-wise correlation modules and a lexicon-based reasoning module to learn semantic rules from both data and the prior knowledge. Besides, we transfer the prior knowledge into data by generating synthetic pure text datasets according to the industry standards' rules, which introduces more prior knowledge to the language model. Furthermore, a novel STR framework is presented by combining the knowledge-based language model and an attention-based vision model. For evaluation, two industrial text datasets called CIN and SB are collected from real-world industrial field surveillance. Experiments indicate that our method's word-level accuracy outperforms state-of-the-art methods with 15% and 10.61% on CIN and SB datasets respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

As a pivotal mechanical component of turbine drive-chain, gearbox suffers from various accidents and fault diagnosis could remarkably enhance its reliability and maintain running safety and lifetime. Vibration-based analysis on single-channel is mainly adopted in previous diagnostic, which cannot catch full vibration inner information in gearbox sensors and bring model performance down. In this paper, a novel method based on the fusion of multi-direction and multi-source signals and the convolutional neural network (MDMS-CNN) is presented. This method can obtain multi-dimensional feature maps from MDMS and preserve the time correlation among different signal sequences. First, features from MDMS are extracted via a corrosion conversion method that converts signals into two-dimensional (2-D) gray images. Then, homologous images are spliced into same channels, while heterogeneous images are superimposed to different channels. Finally, fusion features are input into CNN for fault classification. In experiments, the method is validated on a gearbox diagnosis case. Results have shown that the proposed method achieves 99.86% recognition accuracy and faster convergence speed compared to others. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper highlights the benefits of using series elastic actuators (SEA) in designing a cost-efficient, easily controlled, and functional prosthetic hand. The designed 3D-printed hand uses only two motors in an antagonistic configuration, transferring power to the fingers via pulleys, cables, and springs; i.e., the motors are in an SEA configuration with the load/fingers. In the designed underactuated prosthetic hand, the thumb is adjustable for various tasks, and the optimization of pulley diameters ensures synchronized finger movement during hand flexion and extension. Thanks to the SEA configuration of the motors and fingers, simple position control of the motor enables features like hand position control, morphological grasp, force control, impedance control, slippage detection, safe interaction, and efficient grasp. An extensive set of experiments has been conducted to evaluate the designed prosthetic hand’s performance. The experiments confirm the hand’s satisfactory performance while also highlighting the importance of improving the proposed design in different aspects. To attain better position control and morphological grasp, minimizing the cable-body and joint friction is recommended. A higher resolution of the current/torque sensor is needed for the precise force control and slippage detection. Finally, a motor brake system is required to achieve efficient grasping.

The hydrogen gas turbine can be the key technology for carbon-neutral in the future. The flexibility of gas turbine under various operation conditions is an important issue. A state-space model of hydrogen gas turbine with different hydrogen volume ratio mixed fuel is constructed based on Rowen model, and a full-dimensional state observer is designed to obtain the states of state-space model. The model predictive control method based on amplitude decaying aggregation strategy is presented to stabilize the rotational speed of hydrogen gas turbine under various constraints, which are to ensure the safety of operation. The number of variables contained in the optimization problem to be solved online is reduced by aggregation strategy. The simulation results confirmed that the presented method works well, and the effects of the hydrogen volume ratio for the performance of hydrogen gas turbine are discussed. © 2022 IEEE.

In this article, an adaptive event-triggered asymp¬totically fault-tolerant control (FTC) issue for nonlinear systems with actuator faults is investigated. An extended neural networks (NNs) technique is introduced to estimate unknown functions of the system under consideration. Compared with traditional NNs that ignore approximation errors, the proposed extended NNs further processes approximation errors, reducing the conservatism of the proposed algorithm. Then, within the framework of backstepping method, a new adaptive control strategy is developed by combining event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and bound estimation (BE) approach, which ensures the asymptotic convergence of system states while also reducing the transmission of unnecessary information, thus improving the utilization of communication resources. At the same time, the designed controller eliminates the adverse effects of actuator failures and system nonlinear terms. Finally, a simulation example of a single-link robot system is provided to demonstrate that the developed control strategy can ensure that all signals are bounded and system states are asymptotically convergent. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel online-learning enabled hierarchical operation framework for a green-hydrogen microgrid (MG) with a high penetration of renewable energy (RE) and hybrid energy storage. The operation framework features a bi-level multi-timescale structure which integrates a day-ahead optimal scheduling with online learning distributionally robust model predictive control (OL-DRMPC). Day-ahead scheduling optimization is employed at the high level to provide MG energy dispatch references, while the OL-DRMPC is carried out in the low level for reference-tracking under uncertainties incurred by RE and load forecast errors. To confront the imperfect knowledge of forecast-error distributions, distributionally robust conditional value-at-risk constraints are imposed on MG system states, namely the storage of battery and hydrogen, for a family of distributions called ambiguity set. By exploiting a Dirichlet process mixture model, a streaming-data-driven ambiguity set for uncertain parameters is devised over the runtime of controller and flexibly captures multimodal structure and fine-grained moment information of each mixture component. Enabled by online learning, the proposed strategy enjoys the merit of offering a reliable and intelligent MG operation. Case studies are used to demonstrate its effectiveness and superiority. © 2022 IEEE.

Generic object detection has made great progress in recent years, yet small object detection is still facing a serious problem of missed detection. The problem is caused by two reasons: low resolution in small targets and feature loss during deep convolution downsampling. Some previous studies used feature pyramid structures and multi-scale training predictions to alleviate this problem, but still cannot efficiently utilise the feature information of small targets. In this paper, firstly we propose a novel and effective feature enhancement module to extract more features;secondly, a filter size design method is presented to extract features of matching objects and incorporate context information;finally, an adaptive fusion method is used to process outputs of our module and improve model robustness. We select YOLOv3 as base model and carry out several experiments on a special Small Object Dataset and the results show that our work can achieve an increase of about seven percentage points (35.73%) compared to 28.78% on baseline. © 2022 IEEE.

Entity-based ranking is a popular research area in document ranking as knowledge graphs can introduce additional evidence for ranking systems. In most entity-based ranking framework, the original query is transformed into a set of entities and candidate documents are ranked according to their relevance to the entity set. However, mistakes can easily occur during the transformation process, which introduce noise to the ranking system. This paper represents an expansion-based ranking framework, which expand the original query with high-quality candidate entities to mitigate the impact of transformation mistakes and enrich the semantics of the query in the meanwhile. Compared with existing query expansion methods, our expansion method is lightweight as it reduces much computational burden and requests little extra information. However, the core concerns of the users might be covered up after query expansion. To alleviate this dilemma, a core concern capturing method is pro-posed, wherein the attention weight of each inter-entity relation is measured to capture the core entity pairs in the expanded query. Experiments on the S2-CS dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our lightweight query expansion method and the superiority of our core concern capturing method. Compared with a classical retrieval model, our method provides 11% improvements in terms of NDCG@15. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel two-level electricity and hydrogen market framework for multi-microgrids (MMGs) coupled with offsite hydrogen refueling stations (HRSs), aiming to strengthen the synergy between electricity and hydrogen. The local hydrogen market among the MMG and HRSs is modeled by multi-leader multi-follower Stackelberg game theory, in which microgrids play the role of leaders to adjust hydrogen prices while HRSs participate as followers to determine their hydrogen purchase scheme. Moreover, to deal with economic and technical issues of the MMG in a holistic manner, Nash bargaining theory is used to model the electricity transaction among microgrids. A distributed algorithm is developed to solve such games, thus reducing the cost of information communication and the risk of privacy exposure. The case study demonstrates that this market mechanism guarantees benefits for all parties and boosts the independence of MMGs by reducing transactions with the main grid. © 2022 IEEE.
