Performance evaluation of the natural gas combined cycle with various hydrogen co-firing rates

Hydrogen is a promising carbon-free fuel for reducing CO 2 emissions in power generation and is increasingly being integrated into gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) systems. This study evaluates the thermal performance of a 600-MWe-class GTCC plant under hydrogen co-firing by analyzing two idealized operational scenarios—fixed turbine inlet temperature (TIT) and fixed gas turbine (GT) output—and additionally proposes a load-following strategy that maintains constant total GTCC output. A process simulation model was used to assess the impact of hydrogen blending on GT performance, flue gas composition, and the bottoming cycle—including the heat recovery steam generator (HrSG) and steam turbine (ST)—under three ambient conditions. Hydrogen co-firing introduced a performance trade-off: GT efficiency improved due to favorable combustion properties, while ST output decreased owing to degraded HrSG heat transfer. Under the fixed TIT scenario, GT efficiency increased with minor reductions in ST output. In contrast, under fixed GT output, TIT and turbine exit temperature (TET) declined, significantly reducing steam temperature and ST output, especially at high hydrogen blending ratios. The greatest performance degradation occurred under the lowest TIT condition. To address this trade-off, an additional scenario was developed by regulating TIT to adjust the GT/ST power split and maintain constant GTCC output. This approach resulted in thermal efficiency gains of up to 0.72 percentage points. The proposed model incorporates radiative and convective heat transfer mechanisms and captures the key thermophysical effects of hydrogen-rich combustion gas, offering practical insights for stable and efficient GTCC operation under hydrogen co-firing conditions.

Autonomous navigation technology for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) has seen many recent advancements. In order for a USV to operate autonomously, the path to move from its current location to its destination must be planned, and local path planning must be applied for tracking the path and avoiding obstacles. The dynamic Window Approach (dWA) is a well-known navigation algorithm used for local path planning. The dWA algorithm derives the linear velocity and angular velocity by evaluating the object function defined as destination direction, velocity, and distance from the obstacle. However, because dWA does not consider the velocity and direction of obstacles, USVs may be in danger when avoiding high-speed obstacles. In this paper, we propose an improved dWA algorithm that considers the velocity and direction of obstacles. Whereas the existing dWA algorithm defines the obstacle recognition area as a circle, the proposed dWA algorithm defines the obstacle recognition area as an ellipse and reflects the speed of the obstacle in the ellipse. In this study, we implemented a simulation to compare the existing dWA algorithm with the improved dWA algorithm proposed here. The results confirm that the proposed dWA algorithm can avoid dynamic obstacles more safely than the existing dWA algorithm. © ICrOS 2020.

Ultrasonic fault diagnosis has emerged as a promising technique for gear fault detection, owing to its capability to capture modulated high-frequency transients induced by incipient or localized defects. However, its practical application is constrained by the requirement for extremely high sampling rates. Heterodyne downconversion offers a potential solution by translating ultrasonic spectral components to lower frequencies, though its effectiveness in preserving diagnostic features remains insufficiently validated. This study conducts a theoretical analysis of the influence of heterodyne downconversion on ultrasonic signal characteristics and proposes an optimized heterodyne-based ultrasonic acquisition system with enhanced charge amplification and frequency conversion circuits. Experimental evaluations using a gear fault test platform demonstrate that the downconverted signals preserve the envelope spectral features of the original ultrasonic signals. Furthermore, comparative analyses indicate that the proposed method achieves superior fault detection sensitivity compared to conventional vibration-based techniques, particularly under high rotational speeds. These findings validate the feasibility and diagnostic advantages of the proposed heterodyne-based approach for efficient and accurate ultrasonic condition monitoring.

The accuracy of industrial robot kinematics parameters directly affects its absolute positioning accuracy. Based on Modify denavit-Hartenberg (Md-H) kinematics theory, a more accurate calibration method for kinematic parameters of industrial robots is proposed in this paper. It takes the kinematics parameters, deceleration ratio and coupling coefficient of the robot as error parameters to establish the error model. The calibration experiment and accuracy verification experiment are designed by laser tracker. After the introduction of the reduction ratio and the coupling coefficient calibration, the absolute positioning error of the robot in all directions has been greatly improved, and the overall average accuracy of the robot is increased by 91.42% compared with the uncalibrated, and is increased by 81.02% compared with the without introducing the deceleration ratio and coupling coefficient.

Existing road pothole detection approaches can be classified as computer vision-based or machine learning-based. The former approaches typically employ 2-d image analysis/ understanding or 3-d point cloud modeling and segmentation algorithms to detect (i.e., recognize and localize) road potholes from vision sensor data, e.g., rGB images and/or depth/disparity images. The latter approaches generally address road pothole detection using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in an end-to-end manner. However, road potholes are not necessarily ubiquitous and it is challenging to prepare a large wellannotated dataset for CNN training. In this regard, while computer vision-based methods were the mainstream research trend in the past decade, machine learning-based methods were merely discussed. recently, we published the first stereo visionbased road pothole detection dataset and a novel disparity transformation algorithm, whereby the damaged and undamaged road areas can be highly distinguished. However, there are no benchmarks currently available for state-of-the-art (SoTA) CNNs trained using either disparity images or transformed disparity images. Therefore, in this paper, we first discuss the SoTA CNNs designed for semantic segmentation and evaluate their performance for road pothole detection with extensive experiments. Additionally, inspired by graph neural network (GNN), we propose a novel CNN layer, referred to as graph attention layer (GAL), which can be easily deployed in any existing CNN to optimize image feature representations for semantic segmentation. Our experiments compare GAL-deepLabv3+, our best-performing implementation, with nine SoTA CNNs on three modalities of training data: rGB images, disparity images, and transformed disparity images. The experimental results suggest that our proposed GAL-deepLabv3+ achieves the best overall pothole detection accuracy on all training data modalities. At present, in the research on virtual and real loops of control and protection systems, scholars at home and abroad are mainly focusing on the field of AC digital substations, and there is less research on the virtual and real loops of UHV dC control and protection systems. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes an automatic construction and correlation method for virtual and real loops of UHV dC control and protection system. This method automatically constructs the real circuit by analyzing the design drawings and the optical cable inventory, analyzing the dC visualization program to automatically construct the virtual circuit, and then automatically correlates the virtual and real circuits based on the graph depth traversal algorithm. The practical application in UHV dC engineering shows that this method can help relevant personnel complete the automatic construction and correlation of virtual and real loops, and improve the convenience of operation and maintenance of the UHV dC control and protection system.

Sulfur mustard (SM) poses serious threats of intentional use against civilians, so it requires utmost and immediate attention for detoxification. Therefore, Metal-Organic Framework-5 (MOF-5), Graphene Oxide (GO), and MOF-5@GO composite materials are explored for effective detoxification of sulfur mustard. The crystalline MOF-5@GO, having cubic morphology with a porous structure and abundant functional sites due to surface modification, is found to be responsible for the efficient adsorption of sulfur mustard. Thermally stable MOF-5@GO consisting of Zn, C, and O in their stoichiometric form exhibits a high active surface area of ∼407.38 m 2 /g, which provides more accessible sites for adsorption of SM and, thereafter, detoxification. The synergistic interactions between MOF-5 and GO in the MOF-5@GO composite delivered 92 % adsorption for the sulfur mustard, which is ∼2.5 and ∼1.6 times higher than pristine GO and MOF-5, respectively. The adsorptive removal of SM exhibits pseudo-first-order kinetics with rate constant (k), half-life (t 1/2 ), and maximum adsorption capacity (q max ) of 24.66 × 10 -2 /h, 2.81 h, and 18.01 mg/g, respectively. The GC-MS analysis reveals better degradation of sulfur mustard into relatively non-toxic thiodiglycol, etc., products for the MOF-5@GO composite. Therefore, MOF-5@GO is a very efficient and eco-friendly contender for outstanding performance in detoxifying highly hazardous sulfur mustard.

defect engineering in metal oxides presents a promising approach for tailoring material properties. This strategy enhances gas sorption, catalysis, and control over key physical characteristics such as bandgap, magnetic behavior, and electrical conductivity. despite its potential, the role of defect engineering in advancing metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas-sensing performance remains underexplored. This review introduces defect engineering strategies, emphasizing their applications in gas sensing. Gas sensors play a vital role in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, healthcare, and in improving energy efficiency. The demand for advanced gas sensors has never been more critical, given the need for real-time, accurate, and cost-effective detection of pollutant gases. MOS-based gas sensors are widely used in air quality monitoring, industrial safety, and health diagnostics. Vacancies and defect architectures in MOS have been widely studied for their role in sensing performance, as they fundamentally influence sensor efficiency. The effectiveness of MOS sensors largely depends on the type and concentration of defects. This review introduces vacancies and defects in MOS, followed by an in-depth discussion of defect types, factors influencing defect formation, and their role in charge transport. Additionally, it examines the correlation between elemental chemical properties and defect chemistry. Special attention is given to the defect chemistry of metal oxides, including TiO₂, ZnO, Co₃O₄, ZrO₂, WO₃, and CeO₂. It concludes with an examination of surface engineering methods for defect control to improve gas-sensing capabilities. © 2024

Although the vehicular communications began from the era of the Long Term Evolution (LTE), the strict requirements of the vehicular safety and advanced applications force the academic and industrial communities to continue the topic on the next-generation vehicular communications. In order to realize extremely high reliability and low latency, the frequency spectrum of terahertz (THz) band with ultra-large bandwidth is likely to be one of the candidates at the age of beyond 5th-generation communications (B5G). In this paper, a measurement-validated self-developed ray-tracing (rT) simulator of Beijing Jiaotong University is utilized to characterize the vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) channel at 300-308 GHz in highway scenario. Corresponding channel parameters, in line with the standard channel models, are then fed into the quasi deterministic radio channel generator (QuadriGa), which is a 3GPP 38.901 reference implementation. The differences in path loss and root-mean-square (rMS) delay spread between rT and QuadriGa are summarized, respectively. The good agreement in the power domain and the time domain indicates that the channel parameters provided in our work can operate well in the standard channel model. These results can be used to guide the design of the future vehicular communications at the THz band.
