radio Frequency Identification (rFId) based indoor localization becomes a hotspot in the robotic research field recently. To overcome the shortcoming that plentiful tags are required in a normal rFId based localization system, this paper presents an indoor localization method by fusing measurements from wearable posture sensors and the absolute position information from scattered rFId tags. From the posture sensors, we can obtain the relative indoor localization data by summing up the vectors composed of step length and heading direction. Since this relative localization is highly affected by the cumulative error, the absolute positions of rFId tags are used as corrections if they are found within a read-range to the user. Because the rFId tags are sparsely placed in the indoor environment, the corrections can be achieved only at incomplete time instants. Therefore, a revised Kalman filter with incomplete observation is applied to the sensor fusion between the posture sensors and rFId tags. Experimental results show that the cumulative error of the system can be significantly reduced and the localization accuracy is enhanced through the sensor fusion.

Inspired by the indoor localization technology of mobile robots, a novel Electronic Travel Aids (ETA) is developed based on multi-sensor fusion using an extended Kalman filter (EKF). A wearable sensor system is designed to estimate the real-time posture of user's lower limb. This system can be used both for monitoring the user's walking status and for realizing the relative localization. A belt of multiple sonar sensors worn by the user can detect the obstacle of unknown environment. Simultaneously, this sonar belt can also be used as the absolute localization device in a similar way as the mobile robot. An EKF is applied to realize the data fusion of different sensor systems. The abilities of obstacle avoidance and indoor localization of the proposed ETA are both verified through experiments.

This paper describes a novel motor-drive system which includes the multi-phase open-end windings for an individual winding current control in order to realize the variable parameters. Each armature winding is connected with the insulated full-bridge inverter for the arbitrary excitation waveform. The proposed construction can extend the operating area and can distribute the high efficiency area. Furthermore, the proposed multi-phase drive can suppress the harmonic iron loss under the flux weakening operation because the individual control can regulate the instantaneous flux density in each stator tooth even though the motor consists of the full-pitch distributed winding. In this paper, the down size model was designed to confirm the principle. It was shown that the downsize model can expand the operating range, can distribute high efficiency area, and can suppress the iron loss by the controlled flux density in each stator tooth by some simulation and experimental results.

A YBCO racetrack coil was developed for HTS machine applications. The coil was constructed as step-type to fit in the limited space of the machine rotor. Two double-pancake (dP) windings were fabricated for the whole coil that has used 388 m of YBCO wires purchased from American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC). A finite-element method (FEM) software was used to model the coil and the critical currents for each dB winding were estimated. The winding process was introduced in details, including a few accidents occurred during the process. The coil was tested in a liquid nitrogen tank, and the results shows good compliance with the simulation results, which indicates no degradation areas in the windings.

Optimum designs by simulation and their model distributions can activate and improve production and development processes of automotive industries by cooperative development among different organizations. Simulation models are investigated for standardizations and distributions in a working group named “investigating committee on model development and distribution by international standard description” in JSAE. Present subjects and future requirements to models of automotive simulation for model-based design (MBd) are discussed.

A dynamic Time Warping (dTW) based voice recognition approach and its template training problem are discussed in this *** order to achieve better recognition accuracies, we proposed two kinds of incremental feedback learning methods for dTW-based voice recognition, including the variable gain coefficient (VGC) based method and the time warping average (TWA) based *** with the non-feedback recognition system, the proposed methods are easy to implement and more robust to noise.A number of comparison experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed *** is also shown that the VGC-based method, whose implementation is easy, achieves significantly better performance than conventional batch template training method without feedback learning.

ring normal operations, response or quality variables of a process will follow a input-output relation that depend on certain key sensor variables. A soft-sensor with limited model size can be developed. When the process enters into a “faulty” state, the structure, of this model may change. Moreover, disturbance that is not reflected by sensor outputs may also be present. In this paper, we introduce a recursive soft-sensor modeling algorithm which employs a nonnegative garrote (NNG) variable selection procedure. This model can be used for both prediction, and detection of structural model change and the emergence of disturbance. The advantages of the proposed method were demonstrated by a simulation example and an industrial application to temperature prediction of a blast furnace hearth.

recently, the use of multi domain simulation is becoming indispensable for discussing system performance of a vehicle. In this paper, the simulation technology applied to CO 2 reduction using regeneration for a conventional 12 V battery system vehicle is discussed. The energy analysis results for drive Shaft, Brake and Alternator regeneration shows the optimized Alternator performance for the fuel economy.
