In this paper, the problems of fuzzy modeling of activated sludge wastewater treatment processes and predictive control of dissolved oxygen are investigated. A structure identification algorithm is proposed, by which the structure of the fuzzy rules can be constructed according to the Activated Sludge Model No.1 (ASM1). Utilizing the fuzzy c-means cluster algorithm, the required fuzzy space of input variables is derived and the consequent parameters are identified using the method of least squares. Based on the obtained fuzzy model, the control signal is formulated by solving a convex optimization problem such that the dissolved oxygen concentration in an aerobic reactor of the wastewater treatment plant can be maintained at the set-point. Compared with the traditional PID control, the proposed fuzzy modelbased predictive control paradigm achieves satisfactory benefits in terms of both transient and steady performance.

Vehicle yaw rates were measured by smartphone and high-precision inertial navigation system (INS). The influence of smartphone places on the measurement accuracy of yaw rate was analyzed. A self-adaptive weighted fusion algorithm was applied to reduce the measurement error of built-in gyroscope and orientation sensor of smartphone. The extreme value theory of multivariable function was used to obtain the optimal weighting factors of two sensors. The best value of yaw rate was calculated by weighted summation. Analysis result indicates that the impact of smartphone position on the measurement accuracy is very small. When smartphone is not fixed at center of gravity, the maximal relative errors of yaw rates measured by two sensors of smartphone are 0.7397% and 0.9238%, respectively. Average absolute error between fused data and INS data is 0.6077(°)·s-1. Compared with the data measured by two sensors of smartphone, the average absolute error reduces by 34.3% and 50.0%, respectively. The variance of fused data declines and rapidly converges as the number of measurement increases. The convergent time is about 6 s.

This paper presents a design procedure of the virtual test environment for fail-safe algorithm development of a motor control unit (MCU) in the electric or hybrid-electric vehicle, using a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator. Mathematical models of the vehicle, the battery, the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), and the inverter are developed based on the physical and engineering principles and programmed to be executed in real-time. The programmed models emulate the performance of each component and run in the HIL simulator. The signal interface between the HIL simulator and a MCU is also developed by designing appropriate wire harness and signal matching. Fault diagnosis of a MCU is conducted to show the feasibility of the virtual test environment. Several different failure modes of the MCU are implemented and tested by the HIL simulator to show the possibility of fault detection and fault diagnosis algorithms of the MCU in real-time.

Recently biosensors based on silicon nanowire field-effect transistors (SiNW-FETs) have drawn huge amounts of attention, due to their ultra sensitivity, selectivity, label-free and real-time detection abilities. As people know more and more knowledge of the structure and function of nucleic acid molecules, DNA detection has gained importance increasingly. Here, we briefly summarize major fabrication methods in synthesising SiNW-FETs and selectively describe some applications of SiNW-FET biosensors in DNA detection over the past few years. Some key results from each article are summarized, involving the concept and mechanism behind each sensor, with the aim of stimulating more efforts in developing SiNW-FET biosensors for detecting DNA.

The electrical characteristic test of nanowires is important in nano-materials research. The metal-semiconductor junction that is fabricated with semiconductor nanowire and metal probe in electrical test system has impact on the test result directly, therefore it's necessary to study I-V characteristics of the metal-semiconductor(M-S) junction. Si, ZnO, GaN have been selected from multiple semiconductor materials. When they connected with tungsten probe, all of them formed Schottky barriers, but the relationships between current and voltage of the junctions are distinct. In the thesis, I-V curves of these M-S junctions are compared, and the best electrical performance of M-S junction is selected.
