Carbon emission reduction enabled by informatization construction: an analysis of spatial effects based on China’s experience

The "dual-carbon" objective presents a huge challenge for China and the world, with profound implications for the advancement of China’s eco-friendly economy. Additionally, informatization development has a significant impact on the level of carbon emissions in both local and neighbouring regions. Therefore, we employ panel data from 30 provinces in China spanning the years 2012 to 2021, and use the Kernel density estimate and Moran’s index to explore informatization level and carbon emissions space agglomeration characteristics. We elucidate the nonlinear relationship and heterogeneity between informatization improvement and carbon emissions based on the spatial Durbin model. The primary findings are as follows. Firstly, we discover a distinct spatial clustering phenomenon which the informatization level is high in coastal areas and low in inland areas, whereas carbon emissions are low in the south and high in the north. Secondly, the effect of the informatization level on carbon emissions is shown as a U-shaped and non-linear correlation, signifying inhibitory and subsequently promoting phases. Thirdly, we reveal the negative influence on carbon emissions caused by spatial lag terms of the informatization level, and find that a higher local informatization level will have an inhibitory effect on carbon emissions in neighbouring areas. Finally, there is a spatial heterogeneity in the impact of the informatization level on carbon emissions, which presents the U-shaped relation between informatization level and carbon emissions varies across the North-South subregion and the three major economic subregion of China. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) plays a pivotal role in autonomous driving and robotics. Existing methods often rely on hand-craft feature extraction and cross-modal fusion techniques, resulting in limited feature representation capability and reduced robustness. To address this challenge, we introduce DeepPointMap2, a novel learning-based LiDAR-Visual SLAM architecture that leverages neural descriptors to tackle multiple SLAM sub-tasks in a unified manner. Our approach employs neural networks to extract multi-modal tokens, which are then adaptively fused by the Visual-Point Fusion Module to generate sparse 3D neural descriptors, ensuring precise and robust performance. As a pioneering work, our method achieves state-of-the-art localization performance among various Visual-, LiDAR-, and Visual-LiDAR-based methods in widely-used benchmarks, as shown in the experiment results. Furthermore, the approach proves to be robust in scenarios involving camera failure and LiDAR obstruction. © 2024 ACM.

In order to further support the development of arrayed impedance-based icing detection technology, a temperature drift self-compensation method that does not depend on traditional temperature sensors is proposed for the ice thickness measurement error problem caused by temperature variation. The method achieves compensation by establishing a mapping relationship between relaxation time and temperature to calculate the temperature of the ice layer. A theoretical model to describe the temperature drift characteristics of complex dielectric constant based on the relaxation polarization principle is established, and the ice layer temperature calculation method is proposed on the basis of complex impedance measurement. The experimental results show that the method reduces the error of ice thickness measurement, and the root mean square error reaches 0.09 mm in ice cases below 4 mm, which is clearly better than the uncompensated results. © 2023 IEEE.

High-Throughput and Energy-Efficient FPGA-Based Accelerator for All Adder Neural Networks

Neural networks have been extensively applied across various Internet of Things (IoT) applications, such as drone-and satellite-based remote sensing and autonomous driving. With the increasing resolution and amount of data captured by sensors, the demand for real-time response in IoT applications is markedly increasing. However, it is difficult for existing convolutional neural network (CNN) accelerators for IoT applications on field-programmable gate array (FPGA) platforms to achieve high throughput because of the inherent dense multiplication operations of CNNs, memory bandwidth limitations and inefficient mapping mechanisms. In this article, a high-throughput and energy-efficient all adder neural network (ANN) accelerator for IoT applications on FPGA platform is proposed to solve this problem. First, a series of hardware-oriented algorithm optimization methods are proposed to simplify the processing flow of ANN and further minimize its deployment overhead. Second, a novel hardware architecture based on the idea of near-memory computation (NMC) is proposed to eliminate off-chip memory access completely and accelerate the reconstructed ANN in the pipeline. Third, a set of quantitative analysis methods for the proposed accelerator is presented to balance throughput and energy consumption, allowing the accelerator to adapt to the varying demands of different IoT application scenarios. Extensive experimental results on the AMD-Xilinx VC709 board demonstrate that the proposed accelerator achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of throughput, energy efficiency, and throughput efficiency. Moreover, experiments on the AMD-Xilinx KV260 board highlight the architecture's exceptional scalability and energy efficiency, enabling a balance between speed and power consumption tailored to the specific requirements of IoT application scenarios. © 2014 IEEE.

Aspect Sentiment Triplet Extraction (ASTE) has become an emerging task in sentiment analysis research. Recently, researchers have proposed different tagging schemes, containing tagging of words, tagging of word-pairs, and tagging of spans. However, the first two of these methods are often insufficient for the identification of multi-word terms, while the span tagging can label the entire phrase span, but it lacks the interactive information between words. In this paper, we propose Hybrid of Spans and Table-filling (S&T) model which combining span with table-filling. Specifically, S&T model achieve full fusion of syntactic and contextual features through cross-attention and generate the structures of word-pair table through Biaffine. Then, our model converts it to a span table by computing semantic distance based on syntactic dependency tree, which can enrich each unit of span table with semantic and interactive information. Meanwhile, the initial sentence features are constructed as simple phrase tables to enhance textual information of the phrase itself. In decoding, we define 8 types of labels for identifying three dimensions including aspect, opinion, and sentiment. Finally, the extensive experiments on widely-used dataset show S&T model achieves competitive results in ASTE task, the results certify the effectiveness and robustness of our S&T model. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Improved beluga whale optimization algorithm based cluster routing in wireless sensor networks

Cluster routing is a critical routing approach in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, the uneven distribution of selected cluster head nodes and impractical data transmission paths can result in uneven depletion of network energy. For this purpose, we introduce a new routing strategy for clustered wireless sensor networks that utilizes an improved beluga whale optimization algorithm, called tCBWO-DPR. In the selection process of cluster heads, we introduce a new excitation function to evaluate and select more suitable candidate cluster heads by establishing the correlation between the energy of node and the positional relationship of nodes. In addition, the beluga whale optimization (BWO) algorithm has been improved by incorporating the cosine factor and t-distribution to enhance its local and global search capabilities, as well as to improve its convergence speed and ability. For the data transmission path, we use Prim’s algorithm to construct a spanning tree and introduce DPR for determining the optimal route between cluster heads based on the correlation distances of cluster heads. This effectively shortens the data transmission path and enhances network stability. Simulation results show that the improved beluga whale optimization based algorithm can effectively improve the survival cycle and reduce the average energy consumption of the network. © 2024 the Author(s).

Distracted driving behaviour recognition based on transfer learning and model fusion

In the recognition of distracted driving behaviour, traditional manual feature extraction is subjective and complex;single deep convolutional network also has problems such as insufficient generalisation performance and stability. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a distracted driving behaviour recognition method based on transfer learning and model fusion. First, based on the transfer learning method, the deep convolutional neural network models ResNet18 and ResNet34 are used to extract the features of some images, respectively. Furthermore, the pre-trained model is fine-tuned to obtain four deep convolutional neural network models. Finally, the four network models are fused by stacking method, using 5-fold cross-validation method to reduce over-fitting. Experimental results show that the recognition accuracy of distracted driving behaviour after model fusion reaches 95.47%. The fusion model has higher model generalisation performance and recognition accuracy, which can provide certain technical support for the research of distracted driving behaviour recognition. © 2023 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

A Fast Clustering Based Evolutionary Algorithm for Super-Large-Scale Sparse Multi-Objective Optimization

During the last three decades,evolutionary algorithms(EAs)have shown superiority in solving complex optimization problems,especially those with multiple objectives and non-differentiable ***,due to the stochastic search strategies,the performance of most EAs deteriorates drastically when handling a large number of decision *** tackle the curse of dimensionality,this work proposes an efficient EA for solving super-large-scale multi-objective optimization problems with sparse optimal *** proposed algorithm estimates the sparse distribution of optimal solutions by optimizing a binary vector for each solution,and provides a fast clustering method to highly reduce the dimensionality of the search *** importantly,all the operations related to the decision variables only contain several matrix calculations,which can be directly accelerated by *** existing EAs are capable of handling fewer than 10000 real variables,the proposed algorithm is verified to be effective in handling 1000000 real ***,since the proposed algorithm handles the large number of variables via accelerated matrix calculations,its runtime can be reduced to less than 10%of the runtime of existing EAs.
