Camouflaged object detection (COD) aims to detect/segment camouflaged objects embedded in the environment, which has attracted increasing attention over the past decades. Although several COD methods have been developed, they still suffer from unsatisfactory performance due to the intrinsic similarities between the foreground objects and background surroundings. In this paper, we propose a novel Feature Aggregation and Propagation Network (FAP-Net) for camouflaged object detection. Specifically, we propose a Boundary Guidance Module (BGM) to explicitly model the boundary characteristic, which can provide boundary-enhanced features to boost the COD performance. To capture the scale variations of the camouflaged objects, we propose a Multi-scale Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) to characterize the multi-scale information from each layer and obtain the aggregated feature representations. Furthermore, we propose a Cross-level Fusion and Propagation Module (CFPM). In the CFPM, the feature fusion part can effectively integrate the features from adjacent layers to exploit the cross-level correlations, and the feature propagation part can transmit valuable context information from the encoder to the decoder network via a gate unit. Finally, we formulate a unified and end-to-end trainable framework where cross-level features can be effectively fused and propagated for capturing rich context information. Extensive experiments on three benchmark camouflaged datasets demonstrate that our FAP-Net outperforms other state-of-the-art COD models. Moreover, our model can be extended to the polyp segmentation task, and the comparison results further validate the effectiveness of the proposed model in segmenting polyps. This paper considers the problem of monitoring and adaptively estimating an environmental field, such as temperature or salinity, using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The AUV moves in the field and persistently measures environmental scalars and its position in its local coordinate frame. The environmental scalars are approximately linearly distributed over the region of interest, and an adaptive estimator is designed to estimate the gradient. By orthogonal decomposition of the velocity of the AUV, a linear time-varying system is equivalently constructed, and the sufficient conditions on the motion of the AUV are established, under which the global exponential stability of the estimation error system is rigorously proved. Furthermore, an estimate of the exponential convergence rate is given, and a reference trajectory that maximizes the estimate of the convergence rate is obtained for the AUV to track. Numerical examples verify the stability and efficiency of the system.

Older adults have diversified needs often associated with particular aging scenarios. People started to use aging scenarios to provide better Smart Eldercare services and develop innovative solutions. The problem is how to manage these scenarios effectively. To our best knowledge, this study is the first to develop a model to provide a structured framework of aging scenarios for research and teaching of eldercare services. labeling aging scenarios can facilitate their collection, classification, and consolidation within this model. This study uses the automatic labeling approach to manage and utilize aging scenarios. Under each class, there are labels with different numbers and smaller granularity to reflect the requirements in each scenario case. Since a scenario case often involves more than one label, properly labeling it becomes a multi-label text classification problem. We extend the multi-label text classification model LSAN for labeling aging scenario cases. For evaluation purposes, we collected 938 scenario cases as the dataset. Experimental results show that our proposed method can achieve an average accuracy of 61.66%, better than other classical methods. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Watermarking for Out-of-distribution Detection

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection aims to identify OOD data based on representations extracted from well-trained deep models. However, existing methods largely ignore the reprogramming property of deep models and thus may not fully unleash their intrinsic strength: without modifying parameters of a well-trained deep model, we can reprogram this model for a new purpose via data-level manipulation (e.g., adding a specific feature perturbation to the data). This property motivates us to reprogram a classification model to excel at OOD detection (a new task), and thus we propose a general methodology named watermarking in this paper. Specifically, we learn a unified pattern that is superimposed onto features of original data, and the model’s detection capability is largely boosted after watermarking. Extensive experiments verify the effectiveness of watermarking, demonstrating the significance of the reprogramming property of deep models in OOD detection. Nowadays, memes found on internet are overwhelming. Although they are innocuous and sometimes entertaining, there exist memes that contain sarcasm, offensive, or motivational feelings. In this study, several approaches are proposed to solve the multiple modality problem in analysing the given meme dataset. The imbalance issue has been addressed by using a new Auto Augmentation method and the uncorrelation issue has been mitigated by adopting deep Canonical Correlation Analysis to find the most correlated projections of visual and textual feature embedding. In addition, both stacked attention and multi-hop attention network are employed to efficiently generate aggregated features. As a result, our team, i.e. HCIlab, achieved a weighted F1 score of 0.4995 for sentiment analysis, 0.7414 for emotion classification, and 0.5301 for scale/intensity of emotion classes on the leaderboard. BACKGROUND Depression,non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI),and suicide attempts(SA)often co-occur during adolescence and are associated with long-term adverse health ***,neural mechanisms underlying self-injury and SA are poorly understood in depressed adolescents but likely relate to the structural abnormalities in brain *** To investigate structural network communication within large-scale brain networks in adolescents with *** We constructed five distinct network communication models to evaluate structural network efficiency at the whole-brain level in adolescents with *** magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired from 32 healthy controls and 85 depressed adolescents,including 17 depressed adolescents without SA or NSSI(major depressive disorder group),27 depressed adolescents with NSSI but no SA(NSSI group),and 41 depressed adolescents with SA and NSSI(NSSI+SA group).RESULTS Significant differences in structural network communication were observed across the four groups,involving spatially widespread brain regions,particularly encompassing cortico-cortical connections(e.g.,dorsal posterior cingulate gyrus and the right ventral posterior cingulate gyrus;connections based on precentral gyrus)and cortico-subcortical circuits(e.g.,the nucleus accumbens-frontal circuit).In addition,we examined whether compromised communication efficiency was linked to clinical symptoms in the depressed *** observed significant correlations between network communication efficiencies and clinical scale scores derived from depressed adolescents with NSSI and *** This study provides evidence of structural network communication differences in depressed adolescents with NSSI and SA,highlighting impaired neuroanatomical communication efficiency as a potential contributor to their *** findings offer new insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the comorbidity of NSSI and SA in adolescen

Learning Sequence Descriptor based on Spatio-Temporal Attention for Visual Place Recognition

Visual Place Recognition (VPR) aims to retrieve frames from a geotagged database that are located at the same place as the query frame. To improve the robustness of VPR in perceptually aliasing scenarios, sequence-based VPR methods are proposed. These methods are either based on matching between frame sequences or extracting sequence descriptors for direct retrieval. However, the former is usually based on the assumption of constant velocity, which is difficult to hold in practice, and is computationally expensive and subject to sequence length. Although the latter overcomes these problems, existing sequence descriptors are constructed by aggregating features of multiple frames only, without interaction on temporal information, and thus cannot obtain descriptors with spatio-temporal discrimination. In this paper, we propose a sequence descriptor that effectively incorporates spatio-temporal information. Specifically, spatial attention within the same frame is utilized to learn spatial feature patterns, while attention in corresponding local regions of different frames is utilized to learn the persistence or change of features over time. We use a sliding window to control the temporal range of attention and use relative positional encoding to construct sequential relationships between different features. This allows our descriptors to capture the intrinsic dynamics in a sequence of frames. Comprehensive experiments on challenging benchmark datasets show that the proposed approach outperforms recent state-of-the-art methods. LOG-LIO: A LiDAR-Inertial Odometry with Efficient Local Geometric information Estimation

Local geometric information, i.e., normal and distribution of points, is crucial for LiDAR-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) because it provides constraints for data association, which further determines the direction of optimization and ultimately affects the accuracy of localization. However, estimating normal and distribution of points are time-consuming tasks even with the assistance of kdtree or volumetric maps. To achieve fast normal estimation, we look into the structure of LiDAR scan and propose a ring-based fast approximate least squares (Ring FALS) method. With the Ring structural information, estimating the normal requires only the range information of the points when a new scan arrives. To efficiently estimate the distribution of points, we extend the ikd-tree to manage the map in voxels and update the distribution of points in each voxel incrementally while maintaining its consistency with the normal estimation. We further fix the distribution after its convergence to balance the time consumption and the correctness of representation. Based on the extracted and maintained local geometric information, we devise a robust and accurate hierarchical data association scheme where point-to-surfel association is prioritized over point-to-plane. Extensive experiments on diverse public datasets demonstrate the advantages of our system compared to other state-of-the-art methods. LIMOT: A Tightly-Coupled System for LiDAR-Inertial Odometry and Multi-Object Tracking

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is critical to the implementation of autonomous driving. Most LiDAR-inertial SLAM algorithms assume a static environment, leading to unreliable localization in dynamic environments. Moreover, the accurate tracking of moving objects is of great significance for the control and planning of autonomous vehicles. This study proposes LIMOT, a tightly-coupled multi-object tracking and LiDAR-inertial odometry system that is capable of accurately estimating the poses of both ego-vehicle and objects. We propose a trajectory-based dynamic feature filtering method, which filters out features belonging to moving objects by leveraging tracking results before scan-matching. Factor graph-based optimization is then conducted to optimize the bias of the IMU and the poses of both the ego-vehicle and surrounding objects in a sliding window. Experiments conducted on the KITTI tracking dataset and self-collected dataset show that our method achieves better pose and tracking accuracy than our previous work DL-SLOT and other baseline methods. Efficient VVC Intra Prediction Based on Deep Feature Fusion and Probability Estimation

The ever-growing multimedia traffic has underscored the importance of effective multimedia codecs. Among them, the up-to-date lossy video coding standard, Versatile Video Coding (VVC), has been attracting attentions of video coding community. However, the gain of VVC is achieved at the cost of significant encoding complexity, which brings the need to realize fast encoder with comparable Rate Distortion (RD) performance. In this paper, we propose to optimize the VVC complexity at intra-frame prediction, with a two-stage framework of deep feature fusion and probability estimation. At the first stage, we employ the deep convolutional network to extract the spatial-temporal neighboring coding features. Then we fuse all reference features obtained by different convolutional kernels to determine an optimal intra coding depth. At the second stage, we employ a probability-based model and the spatial-temporal coherence to select the candidate partition modes within the optimal coding depth. Finally, these selected depths and partitions are executed whilst unnecessary computations are excluded. Experimental results on standard database demonstrate the superiority of proposed method, especially for High Definition (HD) and Ultra-HD (UHD) video sequences. Copyright © 2022, The Authors.
