Machine learning in the context of noise is a challenging but practical setting to plenty of real-world applications. Most of the previous approaches in this area focus on the pairwise relation (casual or correlational relationship) with noise, such as learning with noisy labels. However, the group noise, which is parasitic on the coarse-grained accurate relation with the fine-grained uncertainty, is also universal and has not been well investigated. The challenge under this setting is how to discover true pairwise connections concealed by the group relation with its fine-grained noise. To overcome this issue, we propose a novel Max-Matching method for learning with group noise. Specifically, it utilizes a matching mechanism to evaluate the relation confidence of each object (cf. Figure 1) w.r.t. the target, meanwhile considering the Non-IID characteristics among objects in the group. Only the most confident object is considered to learn the model, so that the fine-grained noise is mostly dropped. The performance on a range of real-world datasets in the area of several learning paradigms demonstrates the effectiveness of Max-Matching. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Reducing Share Size in JPEG Image Sharing over GF(2m) and GF(p) Galois Fields

Image sharing is a crucial security technique of protecting the original image. Most image sharing methods elaborate on the uncompressed formats and cannot be applied directly to compressed formats such as JPEG format. Recently, some related JPEG sharing methods were proposed. However, these methods are short in size reduction. To address this issue, we introduce a novel JPEG image sharing method that significantly reduces the file sizes of shared images while maintaining compatibility with the JPEG standard. Specifically, an original JPEG bitstream is parsed to obtain three components, namely, DC appended bits (DCAs), AC Huffman codes (ACHs), and AC appended bits (ACAs). Different sharing mechanisms are applied for these three components. The DCAs are shared over GF(2m) in a way that prevents overflow in the shared DC coefficients. The ACH sharing is performed by polynomials over GF(p) with an intermediate process by Huffman table mapping and the ACAs are shared by polynomials over GF(2m) with directed codes. Consequently, the ACH and ACA shares with smaller sizes are generated, respectively. To be compatible with the JPEG standard, the shared ACAs are adaptively modulated according to the shared ACHs. Finally, the shared JPEG images can be reconstructed by the shared DCAs, ACHs, ACAs and the original partial JPEG information. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can efficiently reduce the file sizes of shared JPEG images and preserve the JPEG format for each shared image. © 2014 IEEE.

Diabetes poses a considerable global health challenge,with varying levels of diabetes knowledge among healthcare professionals,highlighting the importance of diabetes *** Language Models(LLMs)provide new insights into diabetes training,but their performance in diabetes-related queries remains uncertain,especially outside the English language like *** first evaluated the performance of ten LLMs:ChatGPT-3.5,ChatGPT-4.0,Google Bard,LlaMA-7B,LlaMA2-7B,Baidu ERNIE Bot,Ali Tongyi Qianwen,MedGPT,HuatuoGPT,and Chinese LlaMA2-7B on diabetes-related queries,based on the Chinese National Certificate Examination for Primary Diabetes Care in China(NCE-CPDC)and the English Specialty Certificate Examination in Endocrinology and Diabetes of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United ***,we assessed the training of primary care physicians(PCPs)without and with the assistance of ChatGPT-4.0 in the NCE-CPDC examination to ascertain the reliability of LLMs as medical *** found that ChatGPT-4.0 outperformed other LLMs in the English examination,achieving a passing accuracy of 62.50%,which was significantly higher than that of Google Bard,LlaMA-7B,and *** the NCE-CPFC examination,ChatGPT-4.0,Ali Tongyi Qianwen,Baidu ERNIE Bot,Google Bard,MedGPT,and ChatGPT-3.5 successfully passed,whereas LlaMA2-7B,HuatuoGPT,Chinese LLaMA2-7B,and LlaMA-7B ***-4.0(84.82%)surpassed all PCPs and assisted most PCPs in the NCE-CPDC examination(improving by 1%–6.13%).In summary,LLMs demonstrated outstanding competence for diabetes-related questions in both the Chinese and English language,and hold great potential to assist future diabetes training for physicians globally.

Probing neural network comprehension of natural language arguments

We are surprised to find that BERT’s peak performance of 77% on the Argument Reasoning Comprehension Task reaches just three points below the average untrained human baseline. However, we show that this result is entirely accounted for by exploitation of spurious statistical cues in the dataset. We analyze the nature of these cues and demonstrate that a range of models all exploit them. This analysis informs the construction of an adversarial dataset on which all models achieve random accuracy. Our adversarial dataset provides a more robust assessment of argument comprehension and should be adopted as the standard in future work. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Single-frequency ultranarrow linewidth on-chip microlasers with a fast wavelength tunability play a game-changing role in a broad spectrum of applications ranging from coherent communication,light detection and ranging,to metrology and *** and fabrication of such light sources remain a challenge due to the difficulties in making a laser cavity that has an ultrahigh optical quality(Q)factor and supports only a single lasing frequency ***,we demonstrate a unique single-frequency ultranarrow linewidth lasing mechanism on an erbium ion-doped lithium niobate(LN)microdisk through simultaneous excitation of high-Q polygon modes at both pump and laser *** the polygon modes are sparse within the optical gain bandwidth compared with the whispering gallery mode counterpart,while their Q factors(above 10 million)are even higher due to the significantly reduced scattering on their propagation paths,single-frequency lasing with a linewidth as narrow as 322 Hz is *** measured linewidth is three orders of magnitude narrower than the previous record in on-chip LN ***,enabled by the strong linear electro-optic effect of LN,real-time electro-optical tuning of the microlaser with a high tuning efficiency of∼50 pm∕100 V is demonstrated.

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) can provide real-time positioning information for outdoor users, but cannot for indoor scenarios or heavily occluded outdoor scenarios. Strap-down Inertial Navigation System (SINS) are widely used to locate people in complex interior or heavily occluded outdoor scenarios due to its light weight and low power consumption. However, IMU of SINS are noisy, and the sampling data error is large, which is a divergence of the error with time. Therefore, it will generate a positioning accumulation error, which affects the final positioning accuracy. The problem of cumulative IMU errors is usually dealt with by Zero-Velocity Update (ZUPT). The zero-velocity detection part of basic ZUPT method usually uses a single threshold to determine the gait of pedestrian, which often has the problem of gait misjudgment and omission. To address these problems, this paper proposes a composite conditional detection method to solve the problem of misjudgment in the zero-velocity interval. In addition, we redesign the zero-velocity update algorithm and uses the Cubature Kalman filter (CKF) for pedestrian positioning error correction. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ZUPT method based on dual-threshold detection can better detect the interval between pedestrian motion and stationery than ones with single threshold. The zero-velocity update algorithm based on CKF has higher performance than conventional EKF and UKF methods, which constrains the cumulative error of SINS to about 0.2% of the whole walking distance.

Memetic Search for Green Vehicle Routing Problem with Private Capacitated Refueling Stations

The green vehicle routing problem with private capacitated alternative fuel stations (GVRP-PCAFS) extends the traditional green vehicle routing problem by considering refueling stations limited capacity, where a limited number of vehicles can refuel simultaneously with additional vehicles must wait. This feature presents new challenges for route planning, as waiting times at stations must be managed while keeping route durations within limits and reducing total travel distance. This article presents METS, a novel memetic algorithm (MA) with separate constraint-based tour segmentation (SCTS) and efficient local search (ELS) for solving GVRP-PCAFS. METS combines global and local search effectively through three novelties. For global search, the SCTS strategy splits giant tours to generate diverse solutions, and the search process is guided by a comprehensive fitness evaluation function to dynamically control feasibility and diversity to produce solutions that are both diverse and near-feasible. For local search, ELS incorporates tailored move operators with constant-time move evaluation mechanisms, enabling efficient exploration of large solution neighborhoods. Experimental results demonstrate that METS discovers 31 new best-known solutions out of 40 instances in existing benchmark sets, achieving substantial improvements over current state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, a new large-scale benchmark set based on real-world logistics data is introduced to facilitate future research. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Motion Projection Consistency Based 3D Human Pose Estimation with Virtual Bones from Monocular Videos

Real-time 3D human pose estimation is crucial for human-computer interaction. It is cheap and practical to estimate 3D human pose only from monocular video. However, recent bone splicing based 3D human pose estimation method brings about the problem of cumulative error. In this paper, the concept of virtual bones is proposed to solve such a challenge. The virtual bones are imaginary bones between non-adjacent joints. They do not exist in reality, but they bring new loop constraints for the estimation of 3D human joints. The proposed network in this paper predicts real bones and virtual bones, simultaneously. The final length of real bones is constrained and learned by the loop constructed by the predicted real bones and virtual bones. Besides, the motion constraints of joints in consecutive frames are considered. The consistency between the 2D projected position displacement predicted by the network and the captured real 2D displacement by the camera is proposed as a new projection consistency loss for the learning of 3D human pose. The experiments on the Human3.6M dataset demonstrate the good performance of the proposed method. With the aid of transformers, significant progress has been achieved in hyperspectral image change detection (HSI-CD) in recent times. Nonetheless, most contemporary detection methods fail to incorporate diverse diagnostic features extracted from hyperspectral (HS) images. In addition, relying solely on algebraic-based techniques to extract information of difference is insufficient for achieving satisfactory detection performance. In this regard, we propose an innovative triple-path local-to-global network (TL2GN), complemented by a hybrid head transformer (HybridHT), called TL2GH2T, tailored for HSI-CD tasks. To be specific, TL2GH2T first investigates spatial, spectral, and spatial–spectral features from a local-to-global perspective. Then, a novel spatial and spectral token fusion (SSTF) module is developed to integrate the above three tokenized features, producing discriminative features from two HS images separately. Moreover, drawing inspiration from chromosomal crossover mechanisms, we propose a HybridHT. Its goal is to simultaneously learn cross correlation and self-correlation information of bitemporal features from a global perspective, producing highly discriminative distinctions. Our approach, validated through extensive experimentation on four varied HS benchmarks, exhibits exceptional performance in HSI-CD, outperforming contemporary methods in both visual and quantitative evaluations.

Most of the recent advances in crowd counting have evolved from hand-designed density estimation networks, where multi-scale features are leveraged to address the scale variation problem, but at the expense of demanding design efforts. In this work, we automate the design of counting models with Neural Architecture Search (NAS) and introduce an end-to-end searched encoder-decoder architecture, Automatic Multi-Scale Network (AMSNet). Specifically, we utilize a counting-specific two-level search space. The encoder and decoder in AMSNet are composed of different cells discovered from micro-level search, while the multi-path architecture is explored through macro-level search. To solve the pixel-level isolation issue in MSE loss, AMSNet is optimized with an auto-searched Scale Pyramid Pooling Loss (SPPLoss) that supervises the multi-scale structural information. Extensive experiments on four datasets show AMSNet produces state-of-the-art results that outperform hand-designed models, fully demonstrating the efficacy of NAS-Count. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
