Privacy-preserving Electronic Medical Records Sharing Solution Based on Blockchain

In the era of big data, the extensive applications of electronic medical records (EMRs) improve the efficiency of consultations and patient data management. However, it may cause privacy leakage and data damage during inappropriate uses. Fortunately, the advantages of blockchain, such as anonymity, decentralization, and immutability, can provide a favorable platform for health data sharing. This paper proposes a privacy-preserving EMRs sharing scheme based on blockchain. In our scheme, we offer the fine-grained access control property using an identity-based signcryption scheme and ensure no single point of failure through the interplanetary file system (IPFS). Furthermore, for traceability, smart contracts and blockchains are jointly used to record the processes of data storage and access. In the end, we make a security analysis of our proposed scheme to illustrate that it can meet data privacy and integrity requirements. Moreover, we conducted several experiments by timing the consumption of data encryption and decryption to indicate that our work has a lower computation cost than other related works. © 2022,International Journal of Network Security. Source-Free Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (SFUDA) has recently become a focus in the medical image domain adaptation, as it only utilizes the source model and does not require annotated target data. However, current SFUDA approaches cannot tackle the complex segmentation task across different MRI sequences, such as the vestibular schwannoma segmentation. To address this problem, we proposed Reliable Source Approximation (RSA), which can generate source-like and structure-preserved images from the target domain for updating model parameters and adapting domain shifts. Specifically, RSA deploys a conditional diffusion model to generate multiple source-like images under the guidance of varying edges of one target image. An uncertainty estimation module is then introduced to predict and refine reliable pseudo labels of generated images, and the prediction consistency is developed to select the most reliable generations. Subsequently, all reliable generated images and their pseudo labels are utilized to update the model. Our RSA is validated on vestibular schwannoma segmentation across multi-modality MRI. The experimental results demonstrate that RSA consistently improves domain adaptation performance over other state-of-the-art SFUDA methods. Multi-modal emotion recognition plays a vital role in the human-computer interaction (HCI) for consumer electronics. Nowadays, many studies have developed multi-modal fusion algorithms for this ***, two challenging issues remain unsolved, i.e., inefficient multi-modal feature fusion and unclear distance in feature *** this end, we develop a novel framework, namely LAFDA-Net, for cross-subject emotion recognition using EEG and eye movement *** is based on low-rank fusion and domain adaptation *** specifically, the multi-modal signals are input into the feature extraction branch in parallel to generate ***, these features are fused by the low-rank fusion branch, reducing complexity and avoiding ***, the fused features are flattened and sent to the classification branch to determine the emotion *** training, these features are input into the domain adaptive branch to bridge the gap between the source domain and target *** benchmark datasets, i.e., SEED, SEED-IV, and SEED-V, are employed for performance *** results demonstrate that the proposed LAFDA-Net is robust, effective, and has advantages over peer methods. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately.

Objective: The current models of estimating vascular age (VA) primarily rely on the regression label expressed with chronological age (CA), which does not account individual differences in vascular aging (IDVA) that are difficult to describe by CA. This may lead to inaccuracies in assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease based on VA. To address this limitation, this work aims to develop a new method for estimating VA by considering IDVA. This method will provide a more accurate assessment of cardiovascular disease risk. Methods: Relative risk difference in vascular aging (RRDVA) is proposed to replace IDVA, which is represented as the numerical difference between individual predicted age (PA) and the corresponding mean PA of healthy population. RRDVA and CA are regard as the influence factors to acquire VA. In order to acquire PA of all samples, this work takes CA as the dependent variable, and mines the two most representative indicators from arteriosclerosis data as the independent variables, to establish a regression model for obtaining PA. Results: The proposed VA based on RRDVA is significantly correlated with 27 indirect indicators for vascular aging evaluation. Moreover, VA is better than CA by comparing the correlation coefficients between VA, CA and 27 indirect indicators, and RRDVA greater than zero presents a higher risk of disease. Conclusion: The proposed VA overcomes the limitation of CA in characterizing IDVA, which may help young groups with high disease risk to promote healthy behaviors. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

This paper presents an interactive motion control method based on reinforcement learning, designed to assist children with autism who have social motor impairments through a mirror game intervention. The virtual teacher uses the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm to optimize its actions, guiding the participant to follow a Lissajous trajectory. To ensure safety, a motion-correction mechanism was developed, which automatically adjusts actions when the predicted trajectory surpasses predefined safety boundaries. The reward function considers both the distance between the virtual teacher and the target trajectory, as well as the distance between the virtual teacher and the participant, with dynamic adjustments applied by the motion-correction mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate that the virtual teacher effectively guides the participant towards the target trajectory while adhering to safety constraints. © 2025 IEEE.

As continuous-flow microfluidic biochips technology rapidly advances, its automated synthesis methods require adapting to increasingly complex and stringent biochemical applications. In particular, with the introduction of time-sensitive bioassays, in this work, we present a timing-driven high-level synthesis method to optimize the resource efficiency of bioassays considering the time constraints. Specifically, we investigate the existing forms of time constraints and propose a corresponding flexible modeling approach based on reaction-control which can achieve downward compatibility for physical design. Additionally, we also analyze the impact of storage and wash on time constraints. The experimental results show that our method achieves efficient execution and low devices cost while satisfying time constraints.

Most existing methods for image captioning are based on the encoder-decoder framework which directly translates visual features into sentences, without exploiting commonsense knowledge available in the form of knowledge graph. Inspired by the success of information retrieval and question answering systems that leverage prior knowledge, we explore a knowledge embedding approach for image captioning. In this paper, we propose a Knowledge Embedding with Attention on Attention (KE-AoA) method for image captioning, which judges whether or how well the objects are related and augments semantic correlations and constraints between them. The KE-AoA method combines knowledge base method (TransE) and text method (Skip-gram), adding external knowledge graph information (triplets) into the language model to guide the learning of word vectors as the regularization term. Then it employs the AoA module to model the relations among different objects. As more inherent relations and commonsense knowledge are learned, the model can generate better image descriptions. The experiments on MSCOCO data sets achieve a significant improvement on the existing methods and validate the effectiveness of our prior knowledge-based approach. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Object detection of moving targets requires both accuracy and real-time performance. In this paper, we propose a contour extraction prior to convolutional neural network to extract more salient features and use region proposal network to generate candidate regions. Afterwards, the feature maps and proposal regions are inputed to ROI pooling layer followed with some fully connected layers to classify objects and regress bounding box. Simulation experiments show that our method is effective in improving detection accuracy by testing on the dataset with 11 categories of moving targets. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Circular RNA (circRNA), a novel endogenous noncoding RNA molecule with a closed-loop structure, can be used as a biomarker for many complex human diseases. Determining the relationship between circRNAs and diseases helps us to understand the diagnosis, treatment, and pathogenesis of complex diseases, which plays a critical role in clinical research. Nevertheless, the discovery of new circRNA-disease associations by wet-lab methods is not only time-consuming and costly but also randomized and blinded, which is also limited to small-scale studies. Thus, there is an urgent need to establish efficient and reliable computational methods to infer potential circRNA-disease associations on a large scale to effectively reduce costs and save time, and avoid high false-positive rates. In this paper, we propose a novel computational method for predicting circRNA-disease association based on the Similarity Assessing Graph Convolution Network (SAGCN) algorithm, which combines the multi-source similarity network constructed by circRNA and disease. Firstly, we fuse the multi-source similarity information of circRNAs and diseases and construct the multi-source similarity network respectively. Then we use the SAGCN algorithm to extract the hidden feature representations of circRNAs and diseases efficiently and objectively in the way of measuring the similarity between different nodes in the network. Finally, the obtained high-level features of circRNAs and diseases are fed to the multilayer perceptron (MLP) classifier for accurate prediction. Using the 5-fold cross-validation method, the AUC scores of the four SAGCN algorithms, on the benchmark circR2Disease dataset are 93.30%, 92.98%, 92.22% and 91.94%, respectively. Furthermore, case studies further validated that the proposed model was supported by biological experiments, and 25 of the top 30 circRNA-disease associations with the highest scores were confirmed by recent literature.
