This paper proposes a droplet-based microfluidic method to generate hydrogel microspheres with interior undulated wavy or spiral canals for 3D cell culture. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were cultured in the interior canals of the hydrogel microspheres and formed monolayers on the surface of the spiral canals, mimicking native blood vessel configurations. The fabricated heterogeneous spheroids with spiral blood vessel lumen were also demonstrated to build spirally vascularized bone tissue. © 2022 MicroTAS 2022 - 26th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life sciences. Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.

Data-driven weather forecasting models are advancing rapidly, yet they rely on initial states (i.e., analysis states) typically produced by traditional data assimilation algorithms. Four-dimensional variational assimilation (4DVar) is one of the most widely adopted data assimilation algorithms in numerical weather prediction centers;it is accurate but computationally expensive. In this paper, we aim to couple the AI forecasting model, FengWu, with 4DVar to build a self-contained data-driven global weather forecasting framework, FengWu-4DVar. To achieve this, we propose an AI-embedded 4DVar algorithm that includes three components: (1) a 4DVar objective function embedded with the FengWu forecasting model and its error representation to enhance efficiency and accuracy;(2) a spherical-harmonic-transform-based (SHT-based) approximation strategy for capturing the horizontal correlation of background error;and (3) an auto-differentiation (AD) scheme for determining the optimal analysis fields. Experimental results show that under the ERA5 simulated observational data with varying proportions and noise levels, FengWu-4DVar can generate accurate analysis fields;remarkably, it has achieved stable self-contained global weather forecasts for an entire year for the first time, demonstrating its potential for real-world applications. Additionally, our framework is approximately 100 times faster than the traditional 4DVar algorithm under similar experimental conditions, highlighting its significant computational efficiency. Transportation systems primarily depend on vehicular flow on roads. Developed coun-tries have shifted towards automated signal control, which manages and updates signal synchronisation automatically. In contrast, traffic in underdeveloped countries is mainly governed by manual traffic light systems. These existing manual systems lead to numerous issues, wasting substantial resources such as time, energy, and fuel, as they cannot make real‐time decisions. In this work, we propose an algorithm to determine traffic signal durations based on real‐time vehicle density, obtained from live closed circuit television camera feeds adjacent to traffic signals. The algorithm automates the traffic light system, making decisions based on vehicle density and employing Faster R‐CNN for vehicle detection. Additionally, we have created a local dataset from live streams of Punjab Safe City cameras in collaboration with the local police authority. The proposed algorithm achieves a class accuracy of 96.6% and a vehicle detection accuracy of 95.7%. Across both day and night modes, our proposed method maintains an average precision, recall, F1 score, and vehicle detection accuracy of 0.94, 0.98, 0.96 and 0.95, respectively. Our proposed work surpasses all evaluation metrics compared to state‐of‐the‐art methodologies.

Existing researchs on multi-robots task assignment focus on improving the task assignment efficiency without considering the task execution time and ignoring the overall task completion efficiency, which leads to its low computational efficiency in dynamic task assignment scenarios. In addition, the use of a centralized control structure requires high communication quality between robots. To address the above issues, we propose a distributed task assignment method for multiple robots based on dynamic auction rules. The method uses distributed control of robot swarms to share and dynamically update each other's task sets, employs dynamic auction rules for task bidding, adds links to adjust the task execution order, and considers the overall task completion efficiency. Finally, relevant experiments are designed, and the experimental results show that the algorithm is more efficient in terms of distribution and stability, balancing higher execution efficiency and lower motion cost. © 2023 IEEE.

Software-Defined Data Center Networks (SDDCNs) utilizes Software Defined Networking (SDN) as a network architecture to achieve highly flexible, programmable, and automated management of Data Center Networks (DCNs). The high energy consumption of DCNs remains a persistent and significant challenge. Thus, the energy saving is crucial and imperative for DCNs. Current energy-efficient solutions primarily rely on flow consolidation and dynamic device sleeping techniques to reduce energy consumption. However, these approaches often yield long Flow Completion Time (FCT), potentially resulting in violations of service-level agreements, particularly for delay-sensitive applications. In this paper, we formulate the problem of minimizing the power consumption in SDDCNs as key objective while ensuring timely FCT for delay-sensitive applications. To solve this problem, we first introduce the Active Network Generation (ANG) approach, which generates a minimal active subnet with the least number of active devices while meeting the current traffic demand. Subsequently, we propose two algorithms based on the type of applications: the Delay-Tolerant Flow Route (DTFR) algorithm for delay-tolerant applications and the Delay-Sensitive Flow Route (DSFR) algorithm for delay-sensitive applications. Simulation results demonstrate that our propose solution achieves an energy-saving rate of up to 67.77% and significantly reduces FCT compared to benchmark solutions. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

With the increasing emphasis on embedding advanced technology into system controls, the Direct Power Control (DPC) approach has garnered considerable attention due to its simple and highly adaptable algorithm. This approach has been increasingly recognized in numerous applications. However, the variable frequency, harmonic distortion of the currents, and power ripples caused by Hysteresis controllers and switching tables decrease its effectiveness and robustness, affecting the system's performance. For this reason, this paper proposed a new DPC based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approaches. In this approach, the hysteresis comparator and the switching table are substituted with ANN controllers and then applied on both sides: machine-side converter (MSC) and grid-side converter (GSC) of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator based Wind Energy Conversion System (PMSG-WECS). Moreover, to make the system more efficient in varying wind conditions, this study expands the utilization of the artificial neural networks (ANN) to encompass the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach on the system behaviors, a simulation test was carried out in the Matlab/Simulink environment, using a real wind profile of a Moroccan city (Essaouira). In comparison to the classical DPC control, the simulation results showed the superior performance of the proposed ANN-DPC control in terms of reference tracking, response time, overshoot, precision, and its capacity to reduce the rate of power ripples and total harmonic distortion (THD) in the injected currents. Furthermore, a robustness test was also included in this work to check the robustness of the proposed control against parameters variation. In conclusion, the feasibility and effectiveness of the ANN-DPC control approach were confirmed through experimental validation using the dSPACE DS1104 board. © 2024 The Authors

Iron overload has been evidenced to contribute to obesity-associated metabolic disorders,including insulin *** to reduce iron levels might help manage the metabolic complications associated with ***,it is demonstrated that the specific accumulation of oleic acid-modified polyoxovanadates(OPOVs)in adipose tissue leads to the reduction of iron concentrations in adipocytes in mice fed with a high-fat diet(HFD).Conjugation of oleic acids to polyoxovanadates enables tissue-specific depletion of iron from white adipose tissue(WAT)by OPOVs,protecting mice from HFD-induced obesity and obesity-associated metabolic *** tolerance and insulin sensitivity are improved in OPOV-treated mice,which demonstrates that the OPOV-induced iron depletion can reverse the metabolic degeneration caused by HFD-induced ***,a decrease in expression of the marker genes of iron overload suggests the participation of OPOVs in maintaining iron homeostasis and a potential medical application of vanadium clusters in targeting the iron overload caused by *** findings underscore the potential of vanadate-based clusters tailored to address the complex interplay between iron metabolism and metabolic health.
