Vision language models (VLMs) have achieved impressive progress in diverse applications, becoming a prevalent research direction. In this paper, we build FIRE, a feedback-refinement dataset, consisting of 1.1M multi-turn conversations that are derived from 27 source datasets, empowering VLMs to spontaneously refine their responses based on user feedback across diverse tasks. To scale up the data collection, FIRE is collected in two components: FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, where FIRE-100K is generated by GPT-4V, and FIRE-1M is freely generated via models trained on FIRE-100K. Then, we build FIRE-Bench, a benchmark to comprehensively evaluate the feedback-refining capability of VLMs, which contains 11K feedback-refinement conversations as the test data, two evaluation settings, and a model to provide feedback for VLMs. We develop the FIRE-LLaVA model by fine-tuning LLaVA on FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, which shows remarkable feedback-refining capability on FIRE-Bench and outperforms untrained VLMs by 50%, making more efficient user-agent interactions and underscoring the significance of the FIRE dataset. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. An Approach Based on Knowledge Distillation for Lightweight Defect Classification of Green Plums

During the cultivation and growth of green plums, various defects frequently occur, potentially affecting their overall quality and economic value. Accurate classification and identification of these defects have become essential components of the harvesting process, particularly when employing smart agricultural equipment. These defects pose significant challenges to the yield and quality of green plums, making their precise detection crucial for ensuring optimal output and economic efficiency. However, most contemporary research on fruit defect classification and grading using artificial intelligence techniques primarily focuses on accuracy, often neglecting the constraints imposed by limited resources. This study addresses the aforementioned challenges by employing knowledge distillation techniques to optimize the performance of a lightweight model. Specifically, during the knowledge distillation process, the vision transformer model, known for its robust recognition capabilities, was selected as the teacher model. The lightweight MobileNetv3 model, chosen for its ease of deployment, served as the student model and was trained using the Lion optimizer. In addition, the dual guidance learning module was designed to enhance knowledge transfer between the teacher and student models, thereby improving the overall capability of the student model. Experimental validation demonstrated that the proposed method excels in the green plum defect recognition task, with the student model, MobileNetv3, achieving an accuracy of 99.17% and exhibiting high performance in key metrics such as precision, recall, and F1-score. Notably, MobileNetv3 not only delivers exceptional performance but also features a low parameter count and computational complexity, facilitating its efficient deployment in practical applications. Soft robotics has significantly impacted many fields in the last decades. However, their current fabrication methodologies are limited by the assemble complexity, limited materials, or long duration. A monolithic thermal casting method for fabrication of elastomer and soft robotics based on thermoset polymer is introduced. In this work, we used simple heating cores to manufacture elastomers and soft actuators. By controlling the heating current and duration, we can adjust the thermal field and consequently change the configuration of the generated elastomer. Due to its short duration (several minutes), this method can benefit the mass production of soft robots for high efficiency. Also, this work offers a new way to design soft robotics without complex molds. © 2022 IEEE.

Image inpainting based on deep learning has been greatly *** original purpose of image inpainting was to repair some broken photos, suchas inpainting artifacts. However, it may also be used for malicious operations,such as destroying evidence. Therefore, detection and localization of imageinpainting operations are essential. Recent research shows that high-pass filteringfull convolutional network (HPFCN) is applied to image inpainting detection andachieves good results. However, those methods did not consider the spatial location and channel information of the feature map. To solve these shortcomings, weintroduce the squeezed excitation blocks (SE) and propose a high-pass filter attention full convolutional network (HPACN). In feature extraction, we apply concurrent spatial and channel attention (scSE) to enhance feature extraction and obtainmore information. Channel attention (cSE) is introduced in upsampling toenhance detection and localization. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve improvement on ImageNet.

Automatic Speaker Identification (ASI) is so crucial for security. Current ASI systems perform well in quiet and clean surroundings. However, in noisy situations, the robustness of an ASI system against additive noise and interference is a crucial factor. An investigation of the impact of interference on ASI system performance is presented in this paper, which introduces algorithms for achieving high ASI system performance. The objective is to resist the interference of various forms. This paper presents two models for the ASI task in the presence of interference. The first one depends on Normalized Pitch Frequency (NPF) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) as extracted features and Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) as a classifier. In this model, we investigate the utilization of a Discrete Transform (DT), such as Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Sine Transform (DST), to increase the robustness of extracted features against different types of degradation through exploiting the sub-band decomposition characteristics of DWT and the energy compaction property of DCT and DST. This is achieved by extracting features directly from contaminated speech signals in addition to features extracted from discrete transformed signals to create hybrid feature vectors. The enhancement techniques, such as Spectral Subtraction (SS), Winer Filter, and adaptive Wiener filter, are used in a preprocessing stage to eliminate the effect of the interference on the ASI system. In the second model, we investigate the utilization of Deep Learning (DL) based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with speech signal spectrograms and their Radon transforms to increase the robustness of the ASI system against interference effects. Vehicular network technology has made substantial advancements in recent years in the field of intelligent Transportation Systems. Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) has emerged as a novel paradigm with a substantial increase in data exchange within Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). VCC integrates cloud computing, vehicular networking, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. It enables Infrastructure-to-Vehicle (I2V), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), and Vehicle-to-Device (V2D) communication. VCC optimizes vehicle, cloud infrastructure, and IoT resources while addressing significant communication security and vehicle-user privacy challenges. To address these issues, we developed an RFID-based authentication protocol for VCC based on a Henon map using a hash function. In addition, we also incorporated a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to resist physical tampering attacks. We validate the protocol's security formally and informally. The formal security analysis is conducted through a widely used RoR model. We use the Scyther simulation tool to verify the proposed protocol's security against various attacks. Moreover, we compare the performance of our protocol with similar existing protocols across important performance parameters such as communication and computation overheads and security attributes. The proposed protocol yields substantial improvements, demonstrating a 40.74% reduction in computation overhead and a 13.03% decrease in communication overhead as compared to related protocols, delivering both enhanced performance and resource efficiency. The analysis demonstrates its capacity to support secure communication in the VCC environment and satisfy desirable security attributes. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we present the design and development of a novel optical tactile sensor that uses a single-pixel color light-to-frequency converter (TCS3200) and spectral decoding to recognize presses at different positions. This innovative approach overcomes the limitations associated with camera-based sensors, such as increased manufacturing costs and shape restrictions, enabling potential integration as a skin-like layer over a robot's body. Our proposed direct light propagation structure demonstrates enhanced sensitivity and a broader measuring range compared to traditional reflection structures. Using Ecoflex as the elastomer, the sensor's design incorporates a three-layer structure, including an LED layer, an elastomer layer, and a color sensor layer. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed sensor performs well in localization tasks, achieving over 95% accuracy using multi-target regression for rendering poked positions. This study demonstrates the potential of single-pixel-based tactile sensors in various applications and provides a foundation for further exploration in this area. © 2023 IEEE.

Improved Density Peaking Algorithm for Community Detection Based on Graph Representation Learning

There is a large amount of information in the network data that we canexploit. It is difficult for classical community detection algorithms to handle network data with sparse topology. Representation learning of network data is usually paired with clustering algorithms to solve the community detection ***, there is always an unpredictable distribution of class clusters outputby graph representation learning. Therefore, we propose an improved densitypeak clustering algorithm (ILDPC) for the community detection problem, whichimproves the local density mechanism in the original algorithm and can betteraccommodate class clusters of different shapes. And we study the communitydetection in network data. The algorithm is paired with the benchmark modelGraph sample and aggregate (GraphSAGE) to show the adaptability of ILDPCfor community detection. The plotted decision diagram shows that the ILDPCalgorithm is more discriminative in selecting density peak points compared tothe original algorithm. Finally, the performance of K-means and other clusteringalgorithms on this benchmark model is compared, and the algorithm is proved tobe more suitable for community detection in sparse networks with the benchmarkmodel on the evaluation criterion F1-score. The sensitivity of the parameters ofthe ILDPC algorithm to the low-dimensional vector set output by the benchmarkmodel GraphSAGE is also analyzed.

Knowledge tracing (KT) is the task of modeling students’ knowledge mastery based on their historical response records to predict their future performance. The powerful feature learning capabilities of deep neural networks have facilitated their application in mainstream KT models. However, extensive literature and empirical research indicate that KT neural network models are prone to overfitting, particularly when applied to smaller datasets. In this paper, we present RATKT, a knowledge tracing approach that leverages random layer-wise perturbation to enhance the model’s generalization through adversarial training. Specifically, the proposed method enhances input diversity by injecting adversarial perturbations into input embedding representations. Furthermore, a framework incorporating multi-layer linear structures is designed as the core architecture, which employs a randomized layer-wise strategy to inject different sizes of adversarial perturbations into outputs of multiple hidden linear layers. During adversarial training, the model learns more flexible parameters, which enables it to maintain predictive performance even when encountering new samples. On five publicly available benchmark datasets, RATKT outperforms six state-of-the-art KT models, demonstrating superior predictive performance while reducing the risk of overfitting. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
