To address the issues of low accuracy, high number of parameters and computational cost in strip steel surface defect detection algorithms, a lightweight strip steel surface defect detection algorithm based on YOLOv8s is proposed. Initially, the Cross-stage Focused Linear Attention (C2F-FLA) module is introduced to enhance the feature extraction capability of the backbone network. Subsequently, to improve the capture of multi-scale defect contours and reduce the model’s parameters and computational complexity, a Wavelet Convolution-Bidirectional Weighted Feature Pyramid Network (WT-BiFPN) is employed in the model’s Neck section for adaptive fusion of features at different resolutions. Finally, Haar Wavelet Downsampling (HWD) is utilized to retain more defect-related information, further reducing the parameters and computational complexity. The proposed method was validated on the NEU-DET dataset, and the results demonstrate that compared to YOLOv8s, this approach achieves a 4.1% increase in mAP, a 44.4% reduction in parameters, and a 32.8% decrease in computational complexity. The method ensures lightweight implementation while improving detection accuracy, offering more possibilities for defect detection on edge terminal devices.

Industry 5.0 emphasizes consumer data sharing to drive data-driven innovation and enhance user experiences in consumer electronics. Blockchain-integrated federated learning (blockchained FL) has recently emerged as a privacy-Trusted paradigm to facilitate sharing. However, most blockchained FL sharing paradigms cannot adapt to the complexity or variability of consumer data and network conditions such as: 1) inadequate balancing of the trade-off between data quality and training costs during device selection;2) incentives are designed to maximize instantaneous profit without considering the long-Term dynamics of electronic devices. These limitations lead to low-quality model training and security degradation. This paper proposes a novel blockchained FL incentive-sharing paradigm that dynamically selects consumer devices from a long-Term perspective while balancing data quality and training costs. Specifically, we first present a reputation strategy to enhance security by applying a predefined threshold to prevent malicious and low-quality consumers from participating in FL. Then, to optimize device selection under complex and dynamic consumer environments with high-dimensional system states, a Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO)-based incentive mechanism is proposed, which includes: 1) building an 'intelligent engine' to select the optimal consumer devices for each round of FL based on data quality and costs, and 2) implementing incentives to achieve long-Term maximization of the system's social welfare. Extensive simulations show that our sharing paradigm has, on average, 46.97% higher social welfare and 77.27% lower social costs than baselines and can guarantee high data quality in a trustless environment. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

This paper explores a simultaneous tasks offloading and communications (STOC) scheme in mobile edge computing (MEC) networks, supported by the combination of simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) and the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Different from the traditional MEC schemes, the proposed scheme concurrently considers the computation and communication capabilities of the MEC networks, which is actually more practical in reality. Specifically, an optimization problem is devised to maximize the weighted sum of the minimum computed task data and communication data, while ensuring the quality of service (QoS) constraints for STOC through joint design of time scheduling, resource allocation, active and passive beamforming, alongside with the UAV trajectory planning. This non-convex problem with strong couplings among variables is challenging to solve directly. Then, a novel alternating optimization method is proposed, leveraging the successive convex approximation (SCA) and semi-definite relaxation (SDR) techniques. We provide sufficient numerical results to validate the effectiveness of the proposed STOC scheme, which demonstrate that the proposed scheme supported by STAR-RIS and UAV outperforms five benchmark schemes in terms of performance gain. It is important to note that the proposed scheme offers a feasible and realistic way for the implementations of STOC in practical MEC networks. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Correspondence pruning aims to find correct matches (inliers) from an initial set of putative correspondences, which is a fundamental task for many applications. The process of finding is challenging, given the varying inlier ratios between scenes/image pairs due to significant visual differences. However, the performance of the existing methods is usually limited by the problem of lacking visual cues (e.g., texture, illumination, structure) of scenes. In this paper, we propose a Visual-Spatial Fusion Transformer (VSFormer) to identify inliers and recover camera poses accurately. Firstly, we obtain highly abstract visual cues of a scene with the cross attention between local features of two-view images. Then, we model these visual cues and correspondences by a joint visual-spatial fusion module, simultaneously embedding visual cues into correspondences for pruning. Additionally, to mine the consistency of correspondences, we also design a novel module that combines the KNN-based graph and the transformer, effectively capturing both local and global contexts. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that the proposed VSFormer outperforms state-of-the-art methods on outdoor and indoor benchmarks. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a new computing paradigm that enables cloud computing and information technology (IT) services to be delivered at the network’s edge. By shifting the load of cloud computing to individual local servers, MEC helps meet the requirements of ultralow latency, localized data processing, and extends the potential of Internet of Things (IoT) for end-users. However, the crosscutting nature of MEC and the multidisciplinary components necessary for its deployment have presented additional security and privacy concerns. Fortunately, Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms can cope with excessively unpredictable and complex data, which offers a distinct advantage in dealing with sophisticated and developing adversaries in the security industry. Hence, in this paper we comprehensively provide a survey of security and privacy in MEC from the perspective of AI. On the one hand, we use European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) MEC reference architecture as our based framework while merging the software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to better illustrate a serviceable platform of MEC. On the other hand, we focus on new security and privacy issues, as well as potential solutions from the viewpoints of AI. Finally, we comprehensively discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with applying AI to MEC security and privacy as possible future research directions. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. DNA is not only the genetic material of life, but also a favorable material for a new computing model. Various research works based on DNA computing have been carried out in recent years. DNA sequence design is the foundation of such research. The sequence quality directly affects the universality, robustness, and stability of DNA computing. How to design DNA sequences depends on the biological properties and target requirements, which is a typical combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, in order to design DNA sequences with high-quality, we propose a novel meta-heuristic evolutionary algorithm, termed the static virus spread algorithm (SVS). Through this algorithm, we focus on the constraints of universal DNA sequence design and produce a large number of DNA sequences with non-complementarity and small difference in melting temperature as the objectives, and fully considering the balanced proportion of the four bases. The computer simulation and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis experiments show that the high-quality DNA sequences designed by this algorithm are effective, which is expected to provide a convenient tool for sequence preparation before DNA biochemical operations. Freeform handwriting authentication verifies a person’s identity from their writing style and habits in messy handwriting data. This technique has gained widespread attention in recent years as a valuable tool for various fields, e.g., fraud prevention and cultural heritage protection. However, it still remains a challenging task in reality due to three reasons: (i) severe damage, (ii) complex high-dimensional features, and (iii) lack of supervision. To address these issues, we propose SherlockNet, an energy-oriented two-branch contrastive self-supervised learning framework for robust and fast freeform handwriting authentication. It consists of four stages: (i) pre-processing: converting manuscripts into energy distributions using a novel plug-and-play energy-oriented operator to eliminate the influence of noise;(ii) generalized pre-training: learning general representation through two-branch momentum-based adaptive contrastive learning with the energy distributions, which handles the high-dimensional features and spatial dependencies of handwriting;(iii) personalized fine-tuning: calibrating the learned knowledge using a small amount of labeled data from downstream tasks;and (iv) practical application: identifying individual handwriting from scrambled, missing, or forged data efficiently and conveniently. Considering the practicality, we construct EN-HA, a novel dataset that simulates data forgery and severe damage in real applications. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on six benchmark datasets including our EN-HA, and the results prove the robustness and efficiency of SherlockNet. Watermarking serves as a widely adopted approach to safeguard media copyright. In parallel, the research focus has extended to watermark removal techniques, offering an adversarial means to enhance watermark robustness and foster advancements in the watermarking field. Existing watermark removal methods mainly rely on UNet with task-specific decoder branches——one for watermark localization and the other for background image restoration. However, watermark localization and background restoration are not isolated tasks;precise watermark localization inherently implies regions necessitating restoration, and the background restoration process contributes to more accurate watermark localization. To holistically integrate information from both branches, we introduce an implicit joint learning paradigm. This empowers the network to autonomously navigate the flow of information between implicit branches through a gate mechanism. Furthermore, we employ cross-channel attention to facilitate local detail restoration and holistic structural comprehension, while harnessing nested structures to integrate multiscale information. Extensive experiments are conducted on various challenging benchmarks to validate the effectiveness of our proposed method. In fire surveillance, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices require transmitting large monitoring data frequently, which leads to huge consumption of spectrum resources. Hence, we propose an Industrial Edge Semantic Network (IESN) to allow IIoT devices to send warnings through Semantic communication (SC). Thus, we should consider (1) Data privacy and security. (2) SC model adaptation for heterogeneous devices. (3) Explainability of semantics. Therefore, first, we present an eXplainable Semantic Federated Learning (XSFL) to train the SC model, thus ensuring data privacy and security. Then, we present an Adaptive Client Training (ACT) strategy to provide a specific SC model for each device according to its Fisher information matrix, thus overcoming the heterogeneity. Next, an Explainable SC (ESC) mechanism is designed, which introduces a leakyReLU-based activation mapping to explain the relationship between the extracted semantics and monitoring data.
