To realize real-time goal-oriented navigation for a mobile robot in unpredictable environments, a fuzzy reactive system is proposed in this paper. Besides the establishment of the fuzzy logic system, this paper focuses on the the physical meaning of the parameters in the fuzzy system, and proposes a systematic method to automatically suppress redundant fuzzy rules from the rule base. Under the control of the proposed system with automatic redundant fuzzy rule removal, the mobile robot can preferably avoid obstacles autonomously, and generate reasonable trajectories toward the target in various situations. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach are demonstrated by simulation and experimental studies.

Internet Data Centers (IDC) emerge as a major network service platform to converge Internet related services and applications to one location, managing servers, networks, together with valuable and sensitive data of many enterprises. Therefore, an appropriate security approach is essential. Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) are often deployed in IDC as a security measure to detect real-time intrusions and alert system administrators to take proper handling actions. However, a large number of low-level alerts lacking of classification make their management difficult. To tackle this problem, we propose a Security Alert Management System (SAMS) in which alerts generated by each IDS undergo alert aggregation. By incorporating ISO/IEC 27001 requirements into the ontology, our system classifies and aggregates alerts from multiple sources, providing a consolidated view of security incidents which are compliant with the ISO/IEC 27001 standard. We further facilitate effective handling of security alerts with different urgency classifications via an Alert Management System (AMS). © 2010 IEEE.

From the strong point of XML that allows document owners to describe their documents in their own format, it is difficult to search information if those XML documents use different formats. Moreover, users might not retrieve all relevant information from differently formatted XML documents. To allow users to retrieve all relevant results, users need to have as many as queries for all possible formats. SXER (Semantic Ranking for XML Element Recommendation) is an idea to make XML documents easier for searching. It receives XML document as an input, checks all possible semantics for each element, and checks those semantic elements to find which element (word) should be used. The output is a recommendation for each element of input XML document.

The prediction of gene function from genome sequences is one of the main issues in Bioinformatics. Most computational approaches are based on the similarity between sequences to infer gene function. However, the availability of several fully sequenced genomes has enabled alternative approaches, such as phylogenetic profiles. Phylogenetic profiles are vectors which indicate the presence or absence of a gene in other genomes. The main concept of phylogenetic profiles is that proteins participating in a common structural complex or metabolic pathway are likely to evolve in a correlated fashion. In this paper, a multi level clustering algorithm of phylogenetic profiles is presented, which aims to detect inter- and intra-genome gene clusters.

Multi-robot systems have drawn the attention of many different research communities, such as physics, electronics, control, computer science, mathematics, and biology. Motivated by the growing popularity of multi-robot system and related coordination approaches, this paper surveys and analyzes the relevant literature, including six classification dimensions: system architectures, communication and robotic sensor networks, swarm intelligence and swarm robotics, cooperation among robots, applications, and research projects.

Many web sites have features that are only accessible after registering a user account on them. These sites include forums, on-line games, corporate Intranets and many on-line shops. The sites are typically secured through a system whereby a user chooses both a unique user name and a password that will be used to authenticate them. An alternative system proposed here is more convenient for users, and in many cases more secure by removing the requirement for the user to choose or remember a password.

A bipartite state, which is secretly chosen from a finite set of known entangled pure states, cannot immediately be useful in standard quantum information processing tasks. To effectively make use of the entanglement contained in this unknown state, we introduce a way to locally manipulate the original quantum system: either identify the state successfully or distill some pure entanglement. Remarkably, if many copies are available, we show that any finite set of entangled pure states, whether orthogonal or not, can be locally distinguished in this way, which further implies that pure entanglement can be deterministically extracted from unknown entanglement. These results make it clear why a large class of entangled bipartite quantum operations including unitary operations and measurements that are globally distinguishable can also be locally distinguishable: They can generate pure entanglement consistently.

Patent classification is a large scale hierarchical text classification (LSHTC) task. Though comprehensive comparisons, either learning algorithms or feature selection strategies, have been fully made in the text categorization field, few work was done for a LSHTC task due to high computational cost and complicated structural label characteristics. For the first time, this paper compares two popular learning frameworks, namely hierarchical support vector machine (SVM) and k nearest neighbor (k-NN) that are applied to a LSHTC task. Experiment results show that the latter outperforms the former in this LSHTC task, which is quite different from the usual results for normal text categorization tasks. Then this paper does a comparative study on different similarity measures and ranking approaches in k-NN framework for LSHTC task. Conclusions can be drawn that k-NN is more appropriate for the LSHTC task than hierarchical SVM and for a specific LSHTC task. BM25 outperforms other similarity measures and List Weak gains a better performance than other ranking approaches. We also find an interesting phenomenon that using all the labels of the retrieved neighbors can remarkably improve classification performance over only using the first label of the retrieved neighbors. © 2010 IEEE.
