Sensor registration is a basis for well-organized sensor network, and a precondition for data fusion. In cases of constant registration errors, batch processing methods are always applied, where the registration is actually viewed as an optimization problem. Such methods are fast convergent, but sometimes they are not flexible in different cases and the optimal techniques used in batch processing methods may provide the suboptimum as solution. What's more, when dealing with a large number of sensors, the batch processing methods may come across numeric problems. To address the registration problem in some practical cases, the evolutionary algorithm based method can be explored. A method based on genetic algorithm, as well as the least squares method, are developed for sensor registration in different simulation scenarios and compared. Simulation results are analyzed to make clear the advantages and disadvantages of the methods.

This paper deals with the class of linear stochastic discrete-time systems with varying time-delay. The problems of stability and stabilizability for this class of systems are considered. Given an upper and a lower bounds on the time-varying delay sufficient conditions for checking the stability of this class of systems are developed. A control design algorithm is also provided. All the results developed in this paper are in the LMI formalism which makes their solvability easier using the existing tools. A numerical example is provided to show the effectiveness of the established results.

In this paper we propose a method that identifies users at H.264 streaming using watermarking with fingerprints. The watermark can efficiently reduce the potential danger of forgery or alteration. Especially a biometric watermark has various advantages. Among entire biometric characteristics, the fingerprint is the most convenient and economical. In this paper we propose a novel fingerprint-based watermarking technique that can survive under very low bit-rate compression. The proposed algorithm consists of enhancement of a fingerprint image, watermark insertion using discrete wavelet transform. In this paper we also analyze H.264 compression pattern and its effects on watermarking. After restoring the damaged watermark sequence using various filters, the algorithm extracts the embedded watermark. The proposed algorithm can achieve robust watermark extraction against H.264 compressed videos.

Conflict resolution is one of the most challenging tasks in collaborative engineering design. In our previous research, a web-based intelligent collaborative system was developed to address this challenge based on intelligent computational argumentation. However, two important issues were not resolved in that system: priority of participants and self-conflicting arguments. In this paper, we develop two methods for incorporating priorities of participants into the computational argumentation network: 1) weighted summation and 2) re-assessment of strengths of arguments based on priority of owners of the argument using fuzzy logic inference. In addition, we develop a method for detection of self-conflicting arguments. Incorporation of priority of participants and detection of self-conflicting arguments have strengthen the capability of managing intelligent argumentation network for the web-based collaborative engineering design system developed in our previous research.

In this paper, an uncalibrated dynamic visual servoing algorithm is proposed and analyzed. No calibration or robot model is needed. After a brief introduction of the development of uncalibrated visual servoing, the theoretical backgrounds and mathematical requirements of recursive least square (RLS) are stated respectively. Then the core uncalibrated visual servoing algorithm, in RLS form, or more technically, VS-RLS as well as its performance analysis, is investigated. After that, the experimental 6DOF Puma560 simulation of static and moving target tracking is demonstrated. Finally the weak and strength of the algorithm as well as the potential and promising improvements are discussed.

Ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is a metaheuristic and stochastic search technology, which has been one of the effective tools for solving discrete optimization problems. However, there are two bottlenecks for large-scaled optimization problems: the ACO algorithm needs too much time to convergent and the solutions may not be really optimal. This paper proposes a novel ACO algorithm for the multidimensional knapsack problems (MKP), which employs a new pheromone diffusion model and a mutation scheme. First, in light of the preference to better solutions, the association distances among objects are mined in each iteration with top-k strategy. Then, a pheromone diffusion model based on info fountain of an object is established, which strengthens the collaborations among ants. Finally, an unique mutation scheme is applied to optimizing the evolution results of each step. The experimental results for the benchmark testing set of MKPs show that the proposed algorithm can not only get much more optimal solutions but also greatly enhance convergence speed.

Nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) provides flexible multiresolution, anisotropy and directional expansion for images. Compared with the foremost contourlet transform, it is shift-invariant and can overcome the pseudo-Gibbs phenomena around singularities. In addition, coefficients of NSCT are dependent on their neighborhood coefficients in the local window and cousin coefficients in directional subbands. In this paper, region energy and cousin correlation are defined to represent the neighbors and cousins information, respectively. Salience measure, as the combination of region energy and cousin correlation, is defined to obtain fused coefficients in the high-frequency NSCT domain. First, source images are decomposed into subimages via NSCT. Secondly, salience measure is computed. Thirdly, salience measure-maximum-based rule and average rule are employed to obtain high-frequency and low-frequency coefficients, respectively. Finally, fused image is reconstructed by inverse NSCT. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms wavelet-based fusion algorithms and contourlet transform-based fusion algorithms.

Bloom's taxonomy of the cognitive domain and the SOLO taxonomy are being increasingly widely used in the design and assessment of courses, but there are some drawbacks to their use in computer science. This paper reviews the literature on educational taxonomies and their use in computer science education, identifies some of the problems that arise, proposes a new taxonomy and discusses how this can be used in application-oriented courses such as programming.

This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the current state of research in the area of Networked control systems (NCSs) first. Then two modeling and control methods are introduced for NCSs in details. The first one is a stochastic control method, which investigates the H{sub}∞ control problem for NCSs with random network-induced delay. The second one is a switch control method, which focuses on solving the stabilization problem for NCSs in discrete-time domain, where both network-induced delay and packet dropout are taken into account. Illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches. Finally, this paper concludes with the discussion of possible future development of NCSs from a control perspective.

In this work we present a comparative study, testing selected methods for clustering and classification of holter electrocardiogram (ECG). More specifically we focus on the task of discriminating between normal 'N' beats and premature ventricular 'V' beats. Some of the tested methods represent the state of the art in pattern analysis, while others are novel algorithms developed by us. All the algorithms were tested on the same datasets, namely the MIT-BIH and the AHA databases. The results for all the employed methods are compared and evaluated using the measures of sensitivity and specificity.
