In recent years, Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) based methods have made many important achievements in the field of collaborative filtering recommendation system. VAE is a kind of Bayesian model which combines latent variable model with variational inference, but its optimization is often troubled by posterior collapse. By comparing the optimization process of VAE and ordinary autoencoder, we observe that the mismatch between poorly optimized encoder and decoder with too strong characterization capabilities makes it difficult to learn the mapping from the data manifold to the parameterized graph. Since the learning of a posteriori network corresponds to the encoder, we think that the problem of a posteriori collapse can be alleviated by balancing the encoder and decoder better. Therefore, we proposed Hy-VAE, which combines conventional VAE with deterministic autoencoder, and has the advantages of both VAE and deterministic autoencoder. Experiments on three real-world recommendation data sets show that our method alleviates the posterior crash problem in VAE and improves the recommendation performance. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a thorough exploration of Cryptoprocessors in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT). The focus is on hardware support, cryptographic processors, and energy-efficient designs to fortify the security of IoT ecosystems. Leveraging insights from recent research papers, the survey examines various aspects of Cryptoprocessor implementations, ranging from lightweight countermeasures to advanced lattice-based post-quantum cryptography. The proposed paper amalgamates findings from studies on hardware architectures, energy-efficient designs, and innovative cryptographic algorithms to provide a holistic overview of state-of-the-art advancements in IoT security. The synthesis of this survey’s exploration aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on securing IoT devices through robust hardware-backed cryptographic solutions.

In the past decades, a number of surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have been developed to solve expensive multiobjective optimization problems (EMOPs). However, most existing SAEAs focus on low-dimensional optimization problems, since a large number of training samples are required (which is unrealistic for EMOPs) to build an accurate surrogate model for high-dimensional problems. In this paper, an SAEA with Dimension Dropout is proposed to solve high-dimensional EMOPs. At each iteration of the proposed algorithm, it randomly selects a part of the decision variables by Dimension Dropout, and then optimizes the selected decision variables with the assistance of surrogate models. To balance the convergence and diversity, those candidate solutions with good diversity are modified by replacing the selected decision variables with those optimized ones (i.e., decision variables from some better-converged candidate solutions). Eventually, the new candidate solutions are evaluated using expensive functions to update the archive. Empirical studies on ten benchmark problems with up to 200 decision variables demonstrate the competitiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Can We Enhance the Quality of Mobile Crowdsensing Data Without Ground Truth?

Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) has emerged as a prominent trend across various domains. However, ensuring the quality of the sensing data submitted by mobile users (MUs) remains a complex and challenging problem. To address this challenge, an advanced method is needed to detect low-quality sensing data and identify malicious MUs that may disrupt the normal operations of an MCS system. Therefore, this article proposes a prediction- and reputation-based truth discovery (PRBTD) framework, which can separate low-quality data from high-quality data in sensing tasks. First, we apply a correlation-focused spatio-temporal Transformer network that learns from the historical sensing data and predicts the ground truth of the data submitted by MUs. However, due to the noise in historical data for training and the bursty values within sensing data, the prediction results can be inaccurate. To address this issue, we use the implications among the sensing data, which are learned from the prediction results but are stable and less affected by inaccurate predictions, to evaluate the quality of the data. Finally, we design a reputation-based truth discovery (TD) module for identifying low-quality data with their implications. Given the sensing data submitted by MUs, PRBTD can eliminate the data with heavy noise and identify malicious MUs with high accuracy. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the PRBTD method outperforms existing methods in terms of identification accuracy and data quality enhancement. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. This study applies interpretable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques in an unprecedented way to improve transparency in online Arabic handwriting recognition models. By using the LIME (Local Model-Independent Explanations) technique to analyze and interpret a convolutional neural network (CNN) model trained on the ADAB dataset. LIME highlights the key features that the model relies on in handwriting recognition. This research demonstrates the effectiveness of the LIME technique in uncovering the factors that the model relies on in an unconventional way and provides detailed explanations of how the decisions are made, which enhances transparency and increases users’ confidence in these models. The results provide useful information for improving the performance of handwriting recognition systems and a beginning for applying XAI techniques on a larger scale, including using more complex datasets and additional interpretation techniques to gain a deeper understanding of how models work with different handwriting styles. This study paves the way for the use of interpretable techniques in the field of Arabic handwriting recognition.

Due to the increasing importance of complex systems, the problems of modelling and simulation (M&S) of these systems, their approaches and solutions have been studied extensively these last years. In this paper, we present a novel approach to modelling and simulation of discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS), based on the combination of discrete event systems specification (DEVS) and agent group role (AGR). In this study, the DEVS atomic models are transformed into agents and the DEVS coupled models into groups of agents. Thus, we provide a set of procedures and functions that allow the systematic transformation from DEVS into AGR models in order to be implemented in multi-agent platforms. The creation of a metric-semantic map, which encodes human-prior knowledge, represents a high-level abstraction of environments. However, constructing such a map poses challenges related to the fusion of multi-modal sensor data, the attainment of real-time mapping performance, and the preservation of structural and semantic information consistency. In this paper, we introduce an online metric-semantic mapping system that utilizes LiDAR-Visual-Inertial sensing to generate a global metric-semantic mesh map of large-scale outdoor environments. Leveraging GPU acceleration, our mapping process achieves exceptional speed, with frame processing taking less than 7ms, regardless of scenario scale. Furthermore, we seamlessly integrate the resultant map into a real-world navigation system, enabling metric-semantic-based terrain assessment and autonomous point-to-point navigation within a campus environment. Through extensive experiments conducted on both publicly available and self-collected datasets comprising 24 sequences, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our mapping and navigation methodologies. Note to Practitioners—This paper tackles the challenge of autonomous navigation for mobile robots in complex, unstructured environments with rich semantic elements. Traditional navigation relies on geometric analysis and manual annotations, struggling to differentiate similar structures like roads and sidewalks. We propose an online mapping system that creates a global metric-semantic mesh map for large-scale outdoor environments, utilizing GPU acceleration for speed and overcoming the limitations of existing real-time semantic mapping methods, which are generally confined to indoor settings. Our map integrates into a real-world navigation system, proven effective in localization and terrain assessment through experiments with both public and proprietary datasets. Federated learning (FL) has been widely used for privacy-preserving model updates in Industry 5.0, facilitated by 6G networks. Despite FL's privacy-preserving advantages, it remains vulnerable to attacks where adversaries can infer private data from local models or manipulate the central server (CS) to deliver falsified global models. Current privacy-preserving approaches, primarily based on the FedAvg algorithm, fail to optimize training efficiency for non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data. This article proposes training-efficient and verifiable aggregation (TEVA) for FL to resolve these issues. This scheme combines threshold Paillier homomorphic encryption (TPHE), verifiable aggregation, and an optimized double momentum update mechanism (OdMum). TEVA not only leverages TPHE to protect the privacy of local models but also ensures the integrity of the global model through a verifiable aggregation mechanism. Additionally, TEVA integrates the OdMum algorithm to effectively address the challenges posed by non-IID data, promoting rapid model convergence and significantly enhancing overall training efficiency. Security analysis indicates that TEVA meets the requirements for privacy protection. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that TEVA can accelerate model convergence while incurring lower computational and communication overheads. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

With the development of autonomous vehicles and intelligent robots, visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) has attracted great attentions. Most existing visual SLAM systems assume that the objects are stationary in static environments. However, in the real world, there are many objects that are non-stationary in dynamic environments, which will cause performance degradation of visual SLAM systems. In this paper, to address this issue, we propose a novel visual SLAM system based on multi-task deep neural networks. Specifically, we apply multi-task deep neural networks to extract oriented keypoints and perceive dynamic semantic regions, which are used to perform outlier rejection in the SLAM system. We evaluate our method on public datasets, and the results show that our method outperforms existing visual SLAM systems. The presentation video url is: https://***/qGE1OvaJvV0.
