This paper studies the robust co-planning of proactive network hardening and mobile hydrogen energy resources (MHERs) scheduling, which is to enhance the resilience of power distribution network (PDN) against the disastrous events. A decision-dependent robust optimization model is formulated with min − max resilience constraint and discrete recourse structure, which helps achieve the load survivability target considering endogenous uncertainties. Different from the traditional model with a fixed uncertainty set, we adopt a dynamic representation that explicitly captures the endogenous uncertainties of network contingency as well as the available hydrogen storage levels of MHERs, which induces a decision-dependent uncertainty (DDU) set. Also, the multi-period adaptive routing and energy scheduling of MHERs are modeled as a mixed-integer recourse problem for further decreasing the resilience cost. Then, a nested parametric column-and-constraint generation (N-PC&CG) algorithm is customized and developed to solve this challenging formulation. By leveraging the structural property of the DDU set as well as the combination of discrete recourse decisions and the corresponding extreme points, we derive a strengthened solution scheme with nontrivial enhancement strategies to realize efficient and exact computation. Numerical results on 14-bus test system and 56-bus real-world distribution network demonstrate the resilience benefits and economical feasibility of the proposed method under different damage severity levels. Spatial pooling (SP) and cross-channel pooling (CCP) operators have been applied to aggregate spatial features and pixel-wise features from feature maps in deep neural networks (DNNs), respectively. Their main goal is to reduce computation and memory overhead without visibly weakening the performance of DNNs. However, SP often faces the problem of losing the subtle feature representations, while CCP has a high possibility of ignoring salient feature representations, which may lead to both miscalibration of confidence issues and suboptimal medical classification results. To address these problems, we propose a novel dual-view framework, the first to systematically investigate the relative roles of SP and CCP by analyzing the difference between spatial features and pixel-wise features. Based on this framework, we propose a new pooling method, termed dual-view pyramid pooling (DVPP), to aggregate multi-scale dual-view features. DVPP aims to boost both medical image classification and confidence calibration performance by fully leveraging the merits of SP and CCP operators from a dual-axis perspective. Additionally, we discuss how to fulfill DVPP with five parameter-free implementations. Extensive experiments on six 2D/3D medical image classification tasks show that our DVPP surpasses state-of-the-art pooling methods in terms of medical image classification results and confidence calibration across different DNNs. © 2024, CC BY.

While promising results have been achieved in weakly-supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS), limited supervision from image-level tags inevitably induces discriminative reliance and spurious relations between target classes and background regions. Thus, Class Activation Map (CAM) usually tends to activate discriminative object regions and falsely includes lots of class-related backgrounds. Without pixel-level supervisions, it could be very difficult to enlarge the foreground activation and suppress those false activation of background regions. In this paper, we propose a novel framework of Cross Language Image Matching with Automatic Context Discovery (CLIMS++), based on the recently introduced Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) model, for WSSS. The core idea of our framework is to introduce natural language supervision to activate more complete object regions and suppress class-related background regions in CAM. In particular, we design object, background region, and text label matching losses to guide the model to excite more reasonable object regions of each category. In addition, we propose to automatically find spurious relations between foreground categories and backgrounds, through which a background suppression loss is designed to suppress the activation of class-related backgrounds. The above designs enable the proposed CLIMS++ to generate a more complete and compact activation map for the target objects. Extensive experiments on PASCAL VOC 2012 and MS COCO 2014 datasets show that our CLIMS++ significantly outperforms the previous state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) can provide real-time positioning information for outdoor users, but cannot for indoor scenarios or heavily occluded outdoor scenarios. Strap-down Inertial Navigation System (SINS) are widely used to locate people in complex interior or heavily occluded outdoor scenarios due to its light weight and low power consumption. However, IMU of SINS are noisy, and the sampling data error is large, which is a divergence of the error with time. Therefore, it will generate a positioning accumulation error, which affects the final positioning accuracy. The problem of cumulative IMU errors is usually dealt with by Zero-Velocity Update (ZUPT). The zero-velocity detection part of basic ZUPT method usually uses a single threshold to determine the gait of pedestrian, which often has the problem of gait misjudgment and omission. To address these problems, this paper proposes a composite conditional detection method to solve the problem of misjudgment in the zero-velocity interval. In addition, we redesign the zero-velocity update algorithm and uses the Cubature Kalman filter (CKF) for pedestrian positioning error correction. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ZUPT method based on dual-threshold detection can better detect the interval between pedestrian motion and stationery than ones with single threshold. The zero-velocity update algorithm based on CKF has higher performance than conventional EKF and UKF methods, which constrains the cumulative error of SINS to about 0.2% of the whole walking distance. © 2023 IEEE.

Real-Time Adaptive Safety-Critical Control with Gaussian Processes in High-Order Uncertain Models

This paper presents an adaptive online learning framework for systems with uncertain parameters to ensure safety-critical control in non-stationary environments. Our approach consists of two phases. The initial phase is centered on a novel sparse Gaussian process (GP) framework. We first integrate a forgetting factor to refine a variational sparse GP algorithm, thus enhancing its adaptability. Subsequently, the hyperparameters of the Gaussian model are trained with a specially compound kernel, and the Gaussian model’s online inferential capability and computational efficiency are strengthened by updating a solitary inducing point derived from newly samples, in conjunction with the learned hyperparameters. In the second phase, we propose a safety filter based on high order control barrier functions (HOCBFs), synergized with the previously trained learning model. By leveraging the compound kernel from the first phase, we effectively address the inherent limitations of GPs in handling high-dimensional problems for real-time applications. The derived controller ensures a rigorous lower bound on the probability of satisfying the safety specification. Finally, the efficacy of our proposed algorithm is demonstrated through real-time obstacle avoidance experiments executed using both simulation platform and a real-world 7-DOF robot. A Unified Modeling Framework for Automated Penetration Testing

The integration of artificial intelligence into automated penetration testing (AutoPT) has highlighted the necessity of simulation modeling for the training of intelligent agents, due to its cost-efficiency and swift feedback capabilities. Despite the proliferation of AutoPT research, there is a recognized gap in the availability of a unified framework for simulation modeling methods. This paper presents a systematic review and synthesis of existing techniques, introducing MDCPM to categorize studies based on literature objectives, network simulation complexity, dependency of technical and tactical operations, and scenario feedback and variation. To bridge the gap in unified method for multi-dimensional and multi-level simulation modeling, dynamic environment modeling, and the scarcity of public datasets, we introduce AutoPT-Sim, a novel modeling framework that based on policy automation and encompasses the combination of all sub dimensions. AutoPT-Sim offers a comprehensive approach to modeling network environments, attackers, and defenders, transcending the constraints of static modeling and accommodating networks of diverse scales. We publicly release a generated standard network environment dataset and the code of Network Generator. By integrating publicly available datasets flexibly, support is offered for various simulation modeling levels focused on policy automation in MDCPM and the network generator help researchers output customized target network data by adjusting parameters or fine-tuning the network generator. Oracle Bone Inscriptions (OBIs) are a type of ancient Chinese hieroglyphs, which are precursors of many Asian characters. Automatic OBIs recognition can assist archaeologists in understanding the history and evolution of hieroglyphs. Recently, deep learning methods have been gradually applied to OBIs recognition, but these methods often fail to leverage the glyphological feature information of oracle bone characters. In this paper, we propose a novel Local Cross-position Interaction (LCI) module, which dynamically adjusts the relative importance of feature maps in convolutional neural networks (CNNs) by exploiting the potential of the glyphological information. LCI extracts the glyphological context information by orientation pooling, then constructs the local dependencies between glyphological context features via a cross-position interaction. Subsequently, we combine the LCI module with the residual module to form the Residual-LCI module and then build an LCINet for automatic OBIs recognition by stacking multiple Residual-LCI modules. In addition, we construct an OBIs dataset named OBI316 to verify the effectiveness of LCINet, which will be released soon. The comprehensive experiments on the OBI316 dataset demonstrate that our LCINet outperforms baselines and state-of-the-art attention-based networks. The CIFAR datasets are used to further demonstrate the generalization ability of our method.

Fundus Image Quality Assessment and Enhancement: a Systematic Review

As an affordable and convenient eye scan, fundus photography holds the potential for preventing vision impairment, especially in resource-limited regions. However, fundus image degradation is common under intricate imaging environments, impacting following diagnosis and treatment. Consequently, image quality assessment (IQA) and enhancement (IQE) are essential for ensuring the clinical value and reliability of fundus images. While existing reviews offer some overview of this field, a comprehensive analysis of the interplay between IQA and IQE, along with their clinical deployment challenges, is lacking. This paper addresses this gap by providing a thorough review of fundus IQA and IQE algorithms, research advancements, and practical applications. We outline the fundamentals of the fundus photography imaging system and the associated interferences, and then systematically summarize the paradigms in fundus IQA and IQE. Furthermore, we discuss the practical challenges and solutions in deploying IQA and IQE, as well as offer insights into potential future research directions. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. AircraftVerse: A Large-Scale Multimodal Dataset of Aerial Vehicle Designs

We present AircraftVerse, a publicly available aerial vehicle design dataset. Aircraft design encompasses different physics domains and, hence, multiple modalities of representation. The evaluation of these cyber-physical system (CPS) designs requires the use of scientific analytical and simulation models ranging from computer-aided design tools for structural and manufacturing analysis, computational fluid dynamics tools for drag and lift computation, battery models for energy estimation, and simulation models for flight control and dynamics. AircraftVerse contains 27,714 diverse air vehicle designs - the largest corpus of engineering designs with this level of complexity. Each design comprises the following artifacts: a symbolic design tree describing topology, propulsion subsystem, battery subsystem, and other design details;a STandard for the Exchange of Product (STEP) model data;a 3D CAD design using a stereolithography (STL) file format;a 3D point cloud for the shape of the design;and evaluation results from high fidelity state-of-the-art physics models that characterize performance metrics such as maximum flight distance and hover-time. We also present baseline surrogate models that use different modalities of design representation to predict design performance metrics, which we provide as part of our dataset release. Finally, we discuss the potential impact of this dataset on the use of learning in aircraft design and, more generally, in CPS. Dynamic Pricing based Near-Optimal Resource Allocation for Elastic Edge Offloading

In mobile edge computing (MEC), task offloading can significantly reduce task execution latency and energy consumption of end user (EU). However, edge server (ES) resources are limited, necessitating efficient allocation to ensure the sustainable and healthy development for MEC system. In this paper, we propose a dynamic pricing mechanism based near-optimal resource allocation for elastic edge offloading. First, we construct a resource pricing model and accordingly develop the utility functions for both EU and ES, the optimal pricing model parameters are derived by optimizing the utility functions. In the meantime, our theoretical analysis reveals that the EU's utility function reaches a local maximum within the search range, but exhibits barely growth with increased resource allocation beyond this point. To this end, we further propose the Dynamic Inertia and Speed-Constrained particle swarm optimization (DISC-PSO) algorithm, which efficiently identifies the near-optimal resource allocation. Comprehensive simulation results validate the effectiveness of DISC-PSO algorithm, demonstrating that it significantly outperforms existing schemes by reducing the average number of iterations to reach a near-optimal solution by 86.88%, increasing the EU utility function value by 0.13%, and decreasing the variance of results by 96.78%. © 2025 IEEE.
