We present a gait recognition system using infra-red (IR) images. Since an IR camera is not affected by the intensity of illumination, it is able to provide constant recognition performance regardless of the amount of illumination. Model-based object tracking algorithms enable robust tracking with partial occlusions or dynamic illumination. However, this algorithm often fails in tracking objects if strong edge exists near the object. Replacement of the input image by an IR image guarantees robust object region extraction because background edges do not affect the IR image. In conclusion, the proposed gait recognition algorithm improves accuracy in object extraction by using IR images and the improvements finally increase the recognition rate of gaits.

In this paper we present a new simple and efficient method for real-time automatic detecting and deleting blurry pictures while they are stored in digital cameras. Recently, many digital cameras are equipped with auto-focusing and motion compensation functions to help the users take well-focused pictures. However, digital images can be degraded by limited contrast, inappropriate exposure, imperfection of autofocusing or motion compensating devices, limited knowledge of amateur photographers, and so on. In order to detect blurry images immediately after taking the pictures by digital cameras and delete them a reliable tool for image quality estimation is needed. This paper presents a new tool for automatic blurry pictures detection and deletion in digital cameras. The main conception used for this tool is the ratio value between a pre- and original images. The algorithm is also based on the prediction-error variance, and demonstrates its feasibility by using extensive experiments. This method is fast, easy to implement and accurate. Regardless of the detection accuracy, the proposed tool in this paper is not demanding on computation time.

Correct stereo matching depends on the exact estimation of image disparity that contains depth information. Wavelet transform can be applied to analyze signals in stereo vision, but related research is insufficient. In this paper, we propose a fast and correct stereo image matching method through edge detection that uses multi-resolution wavelet transform. Also, we analyze the effect of noise during the edge detection process, and make a comparison with traditional methods.

A resource-constrained transport task scheduling problem (RCTTSP) with two optimal objectives was considered, and a multi-objective hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) was proposed. The proposed algorithm used the serial scheduling method to initialize the population and evaluated the individual. It used the weighted sum method and the rank-based fitness assignment method to assign the individual fitness. Firstly, this paper described the multi-objective RCTTSP and presented the principle of the HGA, and then developed the algorithm to implement several experimental cases with different problem size;lastly the effectiveness and efficiency of the algorithm were compared. The numerical result indicated that the proposed multi-objective HGA can resolve the proposed multi-objective RCTTSP efficiently.

This paper presents a novel approach to reducing ringing artifact in digitally restored images by using multi-resolution edge map. The performance of reducing ringing artifacts depends on the accurate classification of the local features in the image. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) provides effective insight into both spatial and frequency characteristics of an image. Through the DWT analysis, we show that ringing artifacts can be suppressed to a great extent by using multiple-level edge maps, which provide enhanced matching to local edges. Base on the experimental results, the proposed method can reduce ringing artifacts with minimized edge degradation by using DWT analysis.

In this paper, we present comparative analysis of scale-invariant feature extraction using different wavelet bases. The main advantage of the wavelet transform is the multi-resolution analysis. Furthermore, wavelets enable localization in both space and frequency domains and high-frequency salient feature detection. Wavelet transforms can use various basis functions. This research aims at comparative analysis of Haar, Daubechies and Gabor wavelets for scale-invariant feature extraction. Experimental results show that Gabor wavelets outperform better than Haar, Daubechies wavelets in the sense of both objective and subjective measures.

In this paper we propose a method that identifies users at H.264 streaming using watermarking with fingerprints. The watermark can efficiently reduce the potential danger of forgery or alteration. Especially a biometric watermark has various advantages. Among entire biometric characteristics, the fingerprint is the most convenient and economical. In this paper we propose a novel fingerprint-based watermarking technique that can survive under very low bit-rate compression. The proposed algorithm consists of enhancement of a fingerprint image, watermark insertion using discrete wavelet transform. In this paper we also analyze H.264 compression pattern and its effects on watermarking. After restoring the damaged watermark sequence using various filters, the algorithm extracts the embedded watermark. The proposed algorithm can achieve robust watermark extraction against H.264 compressed videos.

This paper presents a robust, real-time block matching-based tracking method for deformable objects. Block matching has been used for various imageprocessing applications as well as video coding because it has a regular computing structure. Video tracking based on block matching, however, fails to provide correct motion information of the object when; (i) background changes spatio-temporally, (ii) an object deforms, and (iii) occlusion occurs. To solve these problems, background is first generated to localize a deformable object, and the object is defined by the corresponding boundary. Shape of the object is reconstructed by using a set of shape control points (SCPs) inside the object boundary, and the trajectory of each SCP is traced by block matching. We use an additional SCP Preserving step at every certain interval of frames for more efficient object tracking. For the experiment we used a computer-generated moving fish sequence and an outdoor sequence. Experimental results show that the proposed tracking algorithm can solve the problem of existing block matching-based methods, and at the same time it can track an object with occlusion and/or deformation.
