The mitochondrial genome of a blacktip sardinella,Sardinella melanurawas determined by high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technique. The mitogenome ofS. melanura(16,646bp), encoded the canonical 37 mitochondrial structural genes (13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes). The gene arrangement ofS. melanurawas identical to its relative species includingSardinella lemuru, Sardinella longicepsandSardinella *** for COX1 (GTG), all the other PCGs showed the typical ATG as start codon. Incomplete stop codons were identified in ND2, COX2, COX3, ND3, ND4, andCytb. The phylogenetic tree result showed thatS. melanurawas most closely related toS. jussieu,S. lemuru, andSardinella maderansiswith 83% identity, respectively.

The mitogenome ofL. vitta(16,498 bp) encoded the typical 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and two non-coding regions (origin of light strand replication; OLandD-Loopcontrol region; CR). Phylogenetic analysis based on the full mitochondrial genome sequences showed thatL. vittais most closely related toL. russellii. The complete mitogenome sequence ofL. vittawould provide the information of the genetic biodiversity inLutjanusfishes, which would be further used for their scientific management in Indonesian waters.

Penaeid shrimps are widely distributed from Indian to western Pacific Oceans and some which are economically important. In this study, we reported full mitochondrial genome of an endemic shrimp species,Penaeus acehensis, which inhabits exclusively in the coastal water of Aceh, Indonesia. Full length of circular mitogenome ofP. acehensiswas 15,991 bp in length, which contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a control region. Start codons of all protein-coding genes were ATN except for COX1 in which ACG was used. Incomplete stop codon (T- -) was found in five genes including COX2, COX3, NAD5, NAD4, and NAD4L. Among its relatives,P. acehensiswas most closely related toPenaeus monodonshowing 89% sequence identity in its mitogenome, which was corresponding to morphological analysis. Phylogenetic tree result showed thatP. acehensiswas clustered together with those were distributed in Indo-West Pacific region (clade II), which is distinct from Eastern Pacific region (clade I).

The remote monitoring system including hemodynamic information and pump status of the implanted animal could be helpful during the in vivo experiment or clinical trial for an artificial heart implantation. In order to monitor the course of the in vivo experiment continuously and anywhere, web-based remote monitoring system was developed, which could be monitored pressures (AoP, LAP, RAP, PAP) and flow information as well as the pump operating conditions. The system consists of the several parts including data sending, storing, viewer part. The data sending part was constructed using component object model and the viewer part was constructed using the Java applet. In addition, the dialog box was introduced to communicate each other instantly and the alarming function was also introduced when the hemodynamic values were out of the desired ranges. The developed remote monitoring system was applied during the in vivo experiment of the VVAD implantation for 1 month and showed designed work without fail.

Stochasticity in gene expression, protein or metabolite levels contributes to cell-cell variations. The analysis of these variations could lead to a better understanding of cellular processes and drug responses, but require single cell analysis techniques. To this end, we developed a new microfluidic platform for high-throughput capture (in about a minute) with low shear and imaging of thousands of single cells. This platform is compatible with upstream components for complex cell stimulation patterns. Imaging of calcium dynamics in response to oxidative stress with this platform reveals variable phenotypic responses within clonal populations.

The present study was to understand the true power irradiated to the cell line cultured on a culture well, in relation to the nominal power from ultrasonic transducer, and to characterize the temporal variations of the acoustic pressure exerted on the cell. Numerical simulation was carried out for a typical-culture well exposed to 1 MHz continuous ultrasound generated by a circular transducer contact underneath the well. The results showed that the ultrasonic pressure exposed to the cell layer in the well was 6.7 times larger than the nominal pressure of the ultrasonic transducer. The ultrasonic pressure in the transient period rose rapidly and was widely variable, and the temporal peak was even greater than that of the steady state period. This suggests that the cells undergo characteristically different ultrasonic exposure between the transient and the steady state period.

The circular mitogenome ofS. ciliata(16,733 bp) encoded the canonical 37 genes including 13 proteins, 22tRNAgenes, 2 rRNAs (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA), and two non-coding regions; the origin of light strand replication (OL) and the putative control region (D-Loop). The gene arrangement of theS. ciliatamitogenome was identical to its relative,Scolopsis vosmeri. Phylogenetic analysis based on the full mitochondrial genome sequences showed thatS. ciliatais most closely related toS. vosmeriwith 83% nucleotide sequence identity. The mitogenome information ofS. ciliatawould be the useful information to understand the evolutional relationship of fishes in genus Scolopsis.
