Identification of analysis classes is a critical design decision to be made early in the design phase in software development. Although incorrect identification of analysis classes can diminish the quality of a whole software design, it still heavily relies on the expertise and experience of the developer and has been ad-hoc. The majority existing works on identification of analysis classes focus on the rule-based approaches. However, the rule-based approaches which are used for analyzing sentence structures cannot be adopted for the language, which has very flexible word order like Korean. In this paper, we proposed a statistical learning method for identification of analysis classes from requirements sentences in Korean. The approach is evaluated using the precision and recall of the automatically extracted candidate classes from real requirements sentences in Korean. The result shows that we can promise numerically measurable enhancement of performance on solving the automatic identification problem of analysis classes using statistical methods, in the real use case specifications of a banking system.

We developed a multi-functional biomemory device composed of cytochrome c and recombinant azurins which have different metal ions in the core. Azurin, one of the well-known metalloproteins, was modified by attaching cysteine residue containing thiol functional group for direct immobilization without chemical linkers. The immobilization of metalloproteins was confirmed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy. The redox properties of immobilized recombinant azurin were validated with cyclic voltammetry (CV), and memory functions using various metalloprotein structures were confirmed by the technique of open circuit potential amperometry (OCPA). We achieved various practical functions based on basic memory functions including write, erase, and read using recombinant azurin and other metalloproteins, and this proposed multifunctional biodevice could be directly applied to the realization of bioelectronics device for next generation, such as single molecular functional device, bioprocessor and biocomputing system. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In ultrasound medical imaging, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement can be achieved by utilizing the code excitation. To preserve the axial resolution, a pulse compression (PC) is performed by applying a matched filter based on the transmit code. However, the conventional PC method requires a few hundred filter coefficients when compressing elongated code (e.g., chirp) into a short pulse, yielding to considerably high computational complexity. In this paper, an efficient PC method of chirp coded excitation is proposed to lower the complexity burden. In the proposed method, the PC is conducted with the decimated complex baseband data instead of a beamformed radio-frequency (RF) data. Although compression is applied with the complex data, a total computational complexity is reduced by a factor of 4 L~2 since L-fold decimation is performed to reduce both data and the number of filter coefficients. The proposed method was evaluated with the phantom study. For quantitative comparison, the -6dB axial resolution for 15 wire targets and the clutter-energy-to-total-energy ratios (CTRs) at a hypo-echoic region were measured. CTR were 27.6 dB and 27.4 dB for the conventional and proposed PC methods, respectively. These results indicate that the proposed method can maintain the performance of pulse compression of chirp coded excitation while substantially reducing computational complexity.

Notch signaling regulates expression of Mcl-1 andapoptosis in PPD-treated macrophages

Macrophages are cellular targets for infection by bacteria and viruses. The fate of infected macrophages plays a key role in determining the outcome of the host immune response. Apoptotic cell death of macrophages is considered to be a protective host defense that eliminates pathogens and infected cells. In this study, we investigated the involvement of Notch signaling in regulating apoptosis in macrophages treated with tuberculin purified protein derivative （PPD）. Murine bone marrow-derived macrophages （BMMs） treated with PPD or infected with Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guerin （BCG） induced upregulation of Notch1. This upregulation correlated well with the upregulation of the anti-apoptotic gene mcl-1 both at the transcriptional and translational levels. Decreased levels of Notch I and Mcl- 1 were observed in BMM treated with PPD when a gamma secretase inhibitor （GSI）, which inhibits the processing of Notch receptors, was used. Moreover, silencing Notch1 in the macrophage-like cell line RAW264.7 decreased Mcl-1 protein expression, suggesting that Notch1 is critical for Mcl-1 expression in macrophages. A significant increase in apoptotic cells was observed upon treatment of BMM with PPD in the presence of GSI compared to the vehicle-control treated cells. Finally, analysis of the mcl-1 promoter in humans and mice revealed a conserved potential CSURBP-Jκ binding site. The association of Notch I with the mcl-1 promoter was confirmed by chromatin immunoprecipitation. Taken together, these results indicate that Notch I inhibits apoptosis of macrophages stimulated with PPD by directly controlling the mcl-1 promoter.

QTL Mapping for Partial Resistance to Southern Corn Rust Using RILs of Tropical Sweet Corn

Southern corn rust is one of destructive diseases in maize caused by Puccinia polysora Undrew. A mapping population of tropical sweet corn recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross between hA9104 and hA9035 inbred lines were set up to detect quantitative trait loci (QTLs) involved in partial resistance to southern corn rust. Eighty nine RILs were used to evaluate resistance levels using nine-point relative scale (1-9) at Sweet Seeds, Suwan Farm, Thailand include combined analysis. A genetic linkage map was constructed with 157 SSR markers, with a total length of 2123.1 cM, covering 10 chromosomes. Broad-sense heritability of individual location ranged from 0.76 and 0.82 and combined across locations was 0.87. Multiple QTL mapping (MQM) was applied for the identification of the QTLs. Fifteen QTLs were detected on chromosome 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10 in both locations and combined across locations. QTLs on chromosome 1, 5 and 6 were contributed by alleles of resistant parent hA9104 while others were contributed by alleles from the susceptible parent, hA9035. Phenotypic variance of each QTL explained ranged from 6.1% to 41.8% with a total of 69.8% - 81.9%. QTL on chromosome 1, 6 and 10 were stable QTLs detected in both locations.
