This paper proposed an integration of heart sound and speech for biometrics application .The method the method selects the best fusion and normalization techniques for biometric system. The framework is developed and test the verification task. The approach in this paper is biometrics recognition, for example, providing features that can't be easily copied, such as the Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) as a feature vector and vector quantization (VQ) as the matching model algorithm .A simple yet highly reliable method is introduced for biometric applications. Experimental results show that the recognition rate of the Heart sound-speaker verification (HS-SV) provides an average EER of 17.8% while the average EER for the speech speaker verification model (S-SV) is 3.39%. In order to reach a higher security level an alternative to the above approach, which is based on multimodal and a fusion technique, is implemented into the system. The best performance of the work is based on simple-sum score fusion with a pricewise-linear normalization technique which provides an EER of 0.69% while the fusion type Main Rule provide an EER of 1.1%.

Electrospinning has been used to fabricate nanofibrous scaffolds from a variety of synthetic and natural materials, including polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and gelatin. Although PVA possesses appealing mechanical properties for tissue engineering applications, it lacks adequate cellular recognition sites, which limits the material's bioactivity. In contrast, gelatin has desirable bioactivity but lacks adequate mechanical properties and can be difficult to handle. Therefore, coaxial electrospinning is employed to create nanofibers of these materials in a core/shell structure with gelatin forming the shell and PVA forming the core of the fibers. In this study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), mechanical testing, and cellular studies were utilized to evaluate the morphology and material properties of coaxially electrospun PVA/gelatin nanocomposite scaffolds in comparison to scaffolds composed of solely PVA or gelatin. This study yields insight into the potential of combining synthetic and natural polymers together in the engineering of composite nanofibers for a variety of tissue engineering applications.

Lumbosacral orthosis (LSO) is a type of spinal orthosis that has been recommended for three basic purposes; abdominal support, pain management, and motion or positional control [1]. Even though the scientific evidence of its clinical effectiveness is controversial, the use of LSO increases due to a high satisfaction rate among patients with low back pain [2]. By implementation of radiographic technique, objectives of this study are to evaluate the changes of lumbar lordosis in flexion and extension of trunk movements with and without wearing the LSO measured by Cobb technique and to correlate the value of lordotic angles in particular posture. Ten healthy men without any history of low back pain participated and a semi-rigid LSO was utilized. Lateral radiographs of spine images during neutral, flexion and extension postures were captured, with and without orthosis. The lumbar lordosis angle was determined using four lines Cobb technique on each of printed lateral radiographic images. Statistical analysis was completed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Mean of lumbar lordosis for maximum trunk flexion with and without orthosis is 12.2° and 16.4° respectively. Lordotic angles for extension are higher than flexion which is 51.7° for maximum trunk extension without orthosis and 54.6° for maximum trunk extension with orthosis. Present results indicate that the lumbar lordosis increased when the lumbosacral orthosis was used in both flexion and extension movements.

Using the Ballistocardiogram(BCG) measured on weighing scale, heart rate variability(HRV) and blood pressure were estimated. BCG was measured while subjects were on weighing scale in resting state and under the Valsalva maneuver and static exercise condition to induce the change in cardiac autonomic rhythm. Time domain, frequency domain and nonlinear HRV parameters were estimated from the measured BCG and compared with the ones calculated from ECG measured simultaneously. For blood pressure(BP) estimation, ECG was measured additionally on the feet using dry electrodes simultaneously installed on weighing scale and R-J intervals were extracted as a BP correlated parameter at every beat cycle. HRV estimation results shows the correlation higher than 0.97, and the estimated BP was similar to the measured BP with a reliable correlations.

With an ever-increasing population of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients worldwide, a noninvasive treatment for AD is needed. In this paper, the application of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulus (rTMS) as a treatment for patients with probable AD is compared to the application of rTMS as a treatment for depression. Comorbidity of depression and dementia is discussed, as well as possible links between the two diseases. The possible confounding antidepressant effects of rTMS on cognitive improvements in AD patients are discussed.

This paper studies the application of the non-linear model (ANN, ANFIS). ANN and ANFIS were used to fit a Blood-Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) signal with design architecture. A model proposes to define region of interest (ROI) in brain fMRI images. The result shows the ANFIS model can be represent to fit the BOLD data better than ANN. Three paradigms were stimulated at difference issue activation in specific parameter (activation time, duration and signal strength). In this case a higher frequency and amplitude paradigm has stimulated on the brain area activation faster and more frequently.

Medical images segmentation is an important work for object recognition of the human organs and it is an important pre-processing step in medical image segmentation and 3D reconstruction. Conventionally, segmentation is detected according to some early brought forward algorithms such as gradient-based algorithm and template-based algorithm, but they are not so good for noise medical image segmentation. In this paper, basic morphological theory and operations are introduced at first, and then a novel morphological segmentation algorithm is proposed to detect the segment of mammographic masses with salt-and-pepper noise. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient for medical image denoising and segmentation than the usually used template-based segmentation algorithms and general morphological segmentation algorithms.

A Mammography Database and Viewer System have collected and stored mammography images of Thai women, treated at the Radiology Department of Hospital in Rangsit, Pathumtani, Thailand, constructed a database using the digitized mammography images, and developed an image viewing system to display these digital mammograms. The images are stored with the high resolution Matrox Morphis (MOR/2VD/84*) frame grabber board. The digital mammography database is powered by MySQL and PHP. It also has a web-based search engine (with secure access) so that the information can be made accessible to all medical team members. The image viewing software, DICOM Viewer, is coded in Borland C++ Builder and is intended to help medical professionals view and retrieve large data sets in near real time. This have already digitized 200 cases (one case per patient, twenty to forty images per case). The system also have developed a MySQL-based image database, and a PHP-based web-search engine to retrieve cases that have masses (benign or malignant) or calcifications (benign or malignant). This database has been evaluated by medical professionals and the experimental results obtained so far are very promising (high image qualities, fast access time). The system are currently developing an image content-based retrieval function for the database system in order to provide improved search capability for the medical professionals.
